Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (21 Viewers)

Here's my active streaming services, plus I will do Disney a couple/few months a year.  I forget how much they each cost:

  • Netflix - around $16/month
  • Amazon Prime - $15/month
  • Discovery+ (HGTV, Travel, Cooking, History, Documentaries, etc) - $6 or $7/month
  • Pluto TV - free TV with ads.  For a free service it's great.  I highly recommend.  They have a lot of different channels in general, including some good SciFi things, such as a channel just for Star Trek shows and movies, a channel for Stargate shows and movies, and other science fiction channels.
  • Hulu - they did a $1 a month for a year special at around Thanksgiving time.  I rarely use it, but it's definitely worth the price.
  • Freevee - decent free TV and movies.  It's also available through Amazon Prime, which is where I usually watch it.
  • Peacock - Only the free version.  I only really watch some sports podcasts.
I spend around $40 a month and get a lot of content, thanks in part to all of the different things on Pluto TV and some things on Freevee and getting it for free.

TUBI is one that I have found a surprising amount of decent movies on, and that is also free with ads.

Anna and the Apocalypse - Tubi (free). A high school musical zombie movie? Yup. I thought this was a lot of fun. I’m not really a musical guy, but their songs in the first 30 minutes before they notice the zombies were entertaining. The actual zombie parts were decent, nothing special - mostly played for laughs and silly kills.  I wouldn’t have watched this if I had known what it was, so I’m glad I didn’t know, because I enjoyed it.

I watched Ep.1 of Obi Wan Kenobi.    I won't be watching more episodes, and probalby won't bother with any more Star Wars shows.
Hmm. Thought the second episode was great. What did you dislike about it. I mean we know the dialogue is corny, it’s Star Wars.

Acting (especially by the big bad lady), f/x, dialogue.     JMO all the new wave of Star Wars and Marvel shows I've tried just feel like lesser versions of both, and I've just lost patience with them.   My wife grew up loving Star Wars too was very "meh" on it and said she didn't have interest in more.

I watched it but I didn't really enjoy it.  Love Letterkenny but it wasn't that great.  A bit too repetitive.

On the flip side, hot girls.  So there's that.
I loved Letterkenny and Shoresy was a great character but I’m not surprised trying to make that character a show wouldn’t go well. I’ll check it out, but it did seem like it would be something like a Kevin or Creed from The Office spin-off that just wouldn’t be the same with a full show of just that character.

I really liked it. It's only 6 episodes, but it does get a bit repetitive.

We're up to date with Shining Girls.. been a worthwhile watch so far. sci-fi/ish serial murder mystery. Moss is good as always, and the rest of the cast holds up well (nice to see the guy who played Pablo Escobar from Narcos, and Eliza from Hamilton).

Bosch: Legacy

I made it through the first 30 minutes and said to myself, "I need to get a notification when they kill off his terrible acting daughter".    Between her and Mimi Rodgers, I don't which is worse.  And they nearly killed off Mimi but she managed to survive.

The Sinner (Netflix) with Bill Pullman.

I really liked S1.  S2 was a bit too convoluted for me but I watched it all the way through and I'll start S3 to see where it leads.

Pullman is exceptional.  The stories are a bit twisted and some of the flash backs are hard to keep up with.

We watched the first season and most of the second then just kind of stopped.  It got pretty strange and seemed to peter out a bit.  I might have to go back and finish season 2.

Season 2 was strange, but season 3 went way :loco:

Season 4 got back to the ways of season 1 and was really good, IMO.

Finally catching back up on Archer - Hulu.  I'm in season 10 and hadn't seen it in years, but I'm enjoying it again.  This is the space season.

Check it out but I don't think they could decide what the show was suppose to be.  Love Letterkenny but I felt like they had an idea, scratched it, filmed more, couldn't figure it out, and plopped six episodes on the site that had about a half show of content.

But I do want a Creed spin-off.

sudbury has hot women, i give the show an 8 out of 10. if you don’t like it then give your balls s tug boys

Now would be a good time to watch the boys on Amazon prime if you haven't already as season three returns in two days

Granted I think S2 wasn't as strong as S1

But S3 looks promising

Hmmmmm...

I wonder who would commodify personal destruction for a dollar...

down to the shoes you wear

The dollar can't drown decadent rot forever.

No future. No future for you.
I guess these guys could.

Saw the first episode. Wow, it's pretty bad. Not really sure what to say. It's kind of like Almost Famous but worse. You've got to really like the Sex Pistols. Thankfully, I do.

Watching the second episode now. Introducing Rotten.

Introducing Rotten makes it a little better. The Steve Jones/Chrissie Hynde moments are cringey. Oh boy.

Saw a picture of you
Whooaaoooaaooooo
Those were the happiest days of my life

Along with Shining Girls (Apple), we've been watching The War of the Worlds S2 (Epix- the wife forgot to sign off of the free week, so on we go). Even though I wasn't loving the direction the "aliens" went and like a lot of sci-fi has some huh? moments, it's been done pretty well and we're enjoying it/looking forward to the next episode.

Thinking of dropping Paramount+.  I don't think I have watched anything on there other than some South Park specials.  My kids watched the Paw Patrol movie once.  Then the thing freezes all of the time on my Samsung TV.

Anyone have AMC+?  I almost want that just for Mad Men and eventually Breaking Bad leaves Netflix I assume.

I don't have HULU or Peacock either -- maybe those are worth it?

Only a few episodes in but The Staircase is pretty good. I didn't see the documentary and don't know anything about the case, so that helps.
Isn't The Staircase a documentary?  I am only two episodes in but it seems like a documentary.  I haven't read anything about it or know anything about the story but thought it was a documentary from what I have seen thus far.

theres a documentary (likely what you're watching) and a docu-series with known actors (Clive Owen and others)... which, IIRC, is about the making of the documentary.

eta: the one with actors is new- I think on HBO. documentary is a little older.

:goodposting:

The show is about the crime and trial but they do also show how the documentary played into it. I finished the 4th episode which ends with the trial verdict. Not sure how there are 4 more episodes but I'm enjoying it still.

and it's Colin Firth not Clive Owen.

I was unaware of this version.  I guess I am watching the straight up documentary then.

I gave thought to going back to S1 to rewatch but I'm gonna just jump in and start S2 on my flight right now.  S3 does look good.

Hacks on HBO Max. Was not excited to watch this but wife was all about it. A bit of a slow start but just finished Season 1 and was quite good.

oh... for me too. I had the same reaction to S1 you did (wife initiated, but slowly and happily pulled in)- although it took me most of the season to even remotely stand watching the younger protagonist. found her distinctly unfunny and annoying as hell.
I commented to the wife how very few of the jokes that they did in the stand up were any good

The main actress definitely carries the show, excellent performance.

I like Hacks, though I agree many of the standup jokes aren't that great & the younger girl is selfish & annoying (which may be part of her long term character arc?). Thought season 2 was solid and ended quite well. Not the type of show I'd normally watch but they're short and gives the wife and I something to cuddle up to together.

Given what you like about AMC, try Mayor of Kingstown before pulling the plug.

Get each of them for a month, watch all their cool stuff, and by the time you finish the cycle, all the good shows have a new season out and you work your way through it again.

The only problem there is that I'm just missing some movies - Incredible Hulk came to HBO the day after I canceled, and will probably be gone by the time I come back around.

Ooh - Groundhog Day just came to Prime, I've been hoping I'd land on it somewhere.

Anthony Jeselnik had a podcast this week and mentioned how this confused him.

I'm late to the party, but I'm really enjoying Halo on Paramount+.  Three episodes in as of now.
I really enjoyed it. Not perfect but a very good first season. They really added a lot beyond the games, most of it works (not all) but enough that I can’t wait for season 2.

Episode 5 was by far my favorite.

Well I finished the documentary (The Staircase) and it was ok.  Such a strange story and odd situation.  I am still confused why they chose this story to do a documentary on from the beginning.  Turned into something interesting but not really sure how they would have picked it to start from the beginning.

In the show, they touch on how they weren't sure if it would be good enough and the director had to persuade the producer at times to keep going, seeing something in the story that he thought would be more.
