We're up to date with Shining Girls.. been a worthwhile watch so far. sci-fi/ish serial murder mystery. Moss is good as always, and the rest of the cast holds up well (nice to see the guy who played Pablo Escobar from Narcos, and Eliza from Hamilton).

Thanks for the rec.   It's interesting.  Probably wouldn't have stuck with it if I had came across the first ep or two myself.   Gonna finish of the last few eps tonight.

TUBI is one that I have found a surprising amount of decent movies on, and that is also free with ads.
Thanks again for the recommendation.  I've started going through the content and watching it recently and it's great.  Between Tubi, PlutoTV and Freevee there's a lot of good free content available.

Anybody else fall asleep several times while trying to watch "Operation Mincemeat" several times?

Roku channel also has some surprisingly decent movies - my current queue there is [REC], Ginger Snaps, The Raid, and Fury.  Some on the recommended list: Fight Club, Cockneys vs. Zombies, Wind River, Platoon, Apocalypto, Wind River, The Road, Hunt for the Wilder People, Taken, Independence Day, Waterboy... way more than I would expect from a free channel.

I've said it here before, but TV Time and JustWatch apps have really changed how I watch TV and movies - I sometimes watch a 30 Rock episode, but would never be able to keep track of where I was in the series (kids also watch that so Netflix loses my spot).  TV Time tells me when some show I watched 2 years ago finally has a new episode come out and where I am in long series.  JustWatch is great - when I remember/hear about a movie I've wanted to watch or rewatch, I put it on the list, and when I want to watch something, I see which movies on my list are streaming on the free channels or on the services I subscribe to.

For those who like the more odd documentaries that Netflix does - Our Father was a pretty good watch.  Makes you very, very mad at the situation, and moreso of its outcome.

This one was so unsettling.  The whole idea and planning.

This was so odd.  I really didn't like the Sibling #1 Jacoba.  She was really odd to me.

SPOILERS---------SPOILERS-------------SPOILERS

I wondered why they didn't charge him with fraud especially for the couples that were supposed to use the husbands sample.  That is the most heinous aspect of this situation.  For the people that signed up for a random sample to be used it is a bit weird but other than using the doctors sample 94 times and counting it was still a somewhat random sample.  It seemed that many of the original people didn't sign up for a particular donor so even though it was creepy it doesn't seem illegal which is where the DA had issues.  But for the couples that signed up for the husband's sample that is straight out fraud and there should be a simple case to prosecute.

I got annoyed by Jacoba too much to the point she wasn't likeable at all.

Statute of limitations for fraud is generally 4 years (up to 10 for mail, wire, or tax fraud).  There is literally no specific law that he broke (or any of the other docs).

It would have been nice for them to state that in the documentary then.  They also didn't really give a timeline to even know if the SoL was over.  There were so many cases that seemed to be ongoing (as I think he was still working as this was going on) that I would think at some point there would be justification for fraud.

I guess that just goes to the doc being not the greatest.  A lot of missing info.  The story is creepy but the execution of the doc wasn't very good.

Any thoughts on Dark Winds that debuted last night?
I kinda half watched it. Have a feeling it’s going to go down a pretty predictable, but enjoyable enough path for me. Just enough hints of supernatural/mysticism to separate from the dozen other shows that one guy has been a Native American cop in.

But give me cops and desolate wilderness  scenery and I’m along for the ride.

Director has something against dogs though. Kind of upsetting..

I'm enjoying the show on Hulu about The Sex Pistols. Only 3 episodes in but I like that they use actual music and footage from bands of that era (Bowie, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, etc.)as well as street video of London. Well done so far. I'm far from a Pistols expert so I don't know about the accuracy on everything.

Enjoyed Dark Winds, right up my alley. Not great yet but definite potential for it to be that way. Zahn McClarnon is the man.

Also really enjoying Slow Horse on Apple+, British MI5 drama. Gary Oldman stealing scene after scene.

Really well done. Danny Boyle did a great job. Looks great and tons of good music. I went in thinking I knew most of the story from The Great Rock N’ Roll Swindle, but enjoyed seeing the pre Johnny start of it all.I also think they did a spot on job casting this. Enjoying it.

Yeah I liked Slow Horses too.
speaking of AppleTV, I need to remind myself to check out season 2 of Tehran.

Think this was an older show, but just finished up “After Life” on Netflix. Dark, morbid comedy with Ricky gervaise. Sad and funny. Thought it was pretty good.

Watched the first ep+ of Old Man too. I like it...bridges and Lithgow, of course. But watching it start with Bridges barely being able to put on his shoes and segue into what it segues into...ok.

I think they did a great job of showing his age throughout.

was it as ridiculous as CGI DeNiro in "The Irishman"?

... asking for a friend.

To Hawks point, he's not Schwarzenegger Commando-ing them without breaking a sweat. His fights so far are lengthy and take a toll (at least short term) on him.

And I get he was this killing machine in a previous life, so has muscle memory and skills and whatnot. But they made the story-telling point of showing him struggling to put on his shoes at the beginning of the series and quickly move into him crashing cars and hand fighting trained guys less than half his age...terminator style. I get the plot choice, just felt weak.

ahhhh ... so, more of a plot hole 🕳 than asking us to sudpend belief that a guy who can't seem to get his arms above his waist is legit windmilling a cat (as in the Irishman).

i get it now.

👍

I watched "Spiderhead" last night.  Some pretty popular actors in it right now.  Honestly not really sure how I felt about it.

is this the Hemsworth prison test treatment thing? just saw a preview for it... looked possibly interesting, possibly horrible.
