is this the Hemsworth prison test treatment thing? just saw a preview for it... looked possibly interesting, possibly horrible.
Yep, Hemsworth and Miles Teller (new Top Gun, Rooster).   A mix between interesting and horrible is kind of what I was left with actually, which is why I have no idea if I liked it or not.

He’s dead on. There were some likable parts but overall, I’m not sure it’s worth the watch. If you miss it, you won’t lose anything but it wasn’t bad enough that you’ll be disappointed if you do watch it. I don’t know if I’d recommend it or not. It would have made for a better series than movie where they could have explored more backstory and maybe ended it differently.

Binged Stranger Things the past week. Never was interested...man was I wrong. What a great show. I can't think of a single complaint I have about it.

Ok, if I had to pick one, the whole Russian part of the story doesn't interest me very much if at all but if that's the worst thing....job well done.

Did you watch the first 3 seasons? I’ve liked them all but this season has been really, really good. Personally, I’ve liked the Russian part of the story. I love how they’ve got all 3 arcs going in 3 locations and still have things synced up. We are on vacation the 2nd through the 9th with some other families but I have a feeling we’ll watch that Friday night.

Episode 3 of The Old Man is some of the best TV I have seen in a long long time
since I'm away a lot in the summer I bought this on Amazon for $14-the entire season.  gives me some flexibility.  Seen the first 2 episodes.  Agreed, dang good series!  Wifey is all in also.

I haven’t been in this thread in a little while.

started watching the bear on Hulu.
I watched about 15 mins of that last night after the family went to sleep. not exactly sure what it's supposed to be yet... program guide says "comedy", but after 15 I didn't see any evidence of that.

more like a drama.

Edit: also, the first episode had a pretty high tempo. it settles down.

Just finished binge watching Breaking Bad for the first time since the original airing.

It was interesting to see how the characters developed while binge watching in a way that I don't remember realizing watching it one week at a time over the course of 5 years.

Also Saul Goodman was a significantly more crude and vulgar character in BB than in BCS.  It will be interesting to see how his character ends up in the final episodes of BCS.  It was funny to catch the line in BB when at one point he says "I'm gonna end up working at a Cinnabon at a  mall  in Iowa". (paraphrasing)

The one relationship that came off much differently than I remember is between Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. Really erratic.  From tender to brutal at the flip of a switch.

I had no memory of Bill Burr being in Breaking Bad.  As small of a role as it was, he would have been great in a larger role like maybe the brother in Law DEA agent.

Also, how Skinny Pete and Badger didn't get a spin off of some kind is just criminal.  After binging Breaking Bad, my Netflix just rolled right into El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.  Badger and Pete were fun to watch in that as well.

While I'm on the topic, El Camino in and of itself was not a great masterpiece but the fact I watched it immediately after BB, it was pretty good.  Jesse Plemons probably should have shed a couple dozen pounds for better continuity.  ☺️

Starting episode 3 of For All Mankind.

I want to like it but Joel Kinnaman is just not a good actor.

And I get that everyone smoked back then but it's just gross and annoying to watch it all the time on screen.

It's been brought up in this thread before, by someone else, but Gomorrah on HBO Max is one of my favorite shows I've watched in the last few years. It's dark, not at all funny, just a great drama.  I'd pass it on entirely if you tried to get me to watch it dubbed instead of Italian with English subtitles and I know some people absolutely don't want to read when watching TV. So if you want some good laughs or don't want to read this show is not for you, but if you like a great drama it's hard to beat. It's one of those drama's were every episode feels like the weight of a movie, in fact in Italy it got so popular it was released in a few episode blocks at the movie theater.

I watched Suburra as well, another Italian crime drama, and it was decent but I did not think it belonged in the same class as Gomorrah.

Just watched this this morning.  It wasn't horrible.  Some predictability.  6\10

If you can, give it a few episodes. I think it develops well. I may be watching through different glasses being in industry.

seems apple tv is winning this thread. guess i should take the plunge. currently using netflix, hulu and prime.
There's a decent handful of good, not great, shows on it worth seeing...and See. You could probably bang most of it out in a month or two and then drop it, depending on your viewing habit.

kinda been my strategy. doesn’t make sense to have them all at once.  bob and weave.

also i pay for youtube premium. just can't have commercials on youtube. and it comes with tons of free movies. I even think many of the uploaded movies are free for anyone. ever since the military disclosed all the ufos they've seen I've been a little hooked on space sci fi. I'd guess I've watched 15-20 free movies there. most of them pretty bad but somehow entertaining anyway. some quite good.

Check it here, I guess.

I see Ghandi is free. I might need a refresher on that one.

also also, i am open to suggestions for sci fi movies or series. it's a genre i have neglected for years because i hated the bad science, but now i don't.

I would definitely  say Severance is a great show

Battlestar Galactica remake is a masterpiece.  The journey it takes from completely low-budget SciFi afterthought to television Hall of Fame is a fun and remarkable ride.

my favorite series was 12 Monkeys on Hulu.  If you are into the time-travel genre, Dark on Netflix is also really good, although subtitled.

Second both of those. Also BSG as mentioned above.
Others I've really enjoyed:

The Expanse - terrific space series (Prime)
Fringe - X-Files knock-off that stands on its own (HBO Max)
Westworld - at least season 1 (I enjoyed season 3 as well but think I'm the only one...) (HBO Max)
Man in the High Castle - alt history where the Nazis won WWII and they and Japan split control of the U.S.
Strange Things - cause yeah (Netflix)
Severance - fascinating slow burn about people who have surgically separated their work and personal lives (Apple+)
Black Mirror - great anthology series on technology and the darkness of the human soul.  (Netflix)

Great call on Fringe.  Got better and better and better as it matured.

Travelers on Netflix is interesting.  It's entertaining with an interesting sci-fi aspect to it.

11.22.63 on hulu was good.  Also a very interesting sci-fi concept.

Find 3 hours where you can just enjoy the greatest EPIC flick of 2022 on Netflix:

RRR

Unbelievable action, choreography, mind blowing effects, fierce animals fighting, great simple story, twists, color, perfect music.

The fight scenes are reminiscent of Achilles vs Hector with the drums and intensity.

Tears in my eyes for the nailed ending.

If you enjoy EPIC battle scenes with tender moments and brilliant pacing just do it. It's a little over 3 hours and there is a mix of subtitles with English but I didn't even notice. Wife and I were both totally floored by this movie. WHAT AN EFFORT!
