Now...Beef? THATS a good show. Smartly written. Good acting. really fun story....worth the watch for sure.
Dumb name though
I liked Night Agent significantly more than Beef
Beef must be horrifically bad.
we watched 3 episodes last night.

is this supposed to be a comedy? it's not funny. not interesting. not making me want to watch another second of it.

can't think of a single moment in any episode that was even slightly humorous.

by contrast, we're three episodes in to Shameless. laughed more in 2 minutes of that show than in 90 minutes of Beef.
This is going to be a strain on our relationship going forward.

You probably didn't like Cable Guy either
never saw Cable Guy :oldunsure:
Give it a shot. By the end you'll know if we can continue as friends or not. :coffee:

No, that's "Brokeback Mountain".

You guys play here, too?

So we (wife and I) are binging Beef. Really enjoying it a lot. Great characters.

I am also watching on my own The Mandolorian S3 and Rings of Power S1

Enjoying both a bunch.

Next in the que for the wifey and I are:

Succession and Barry

Just started Beef based on the recommendations in here. Seems promising so far, and it's not that much of an investment at just one season.

Strangely, this is the second time that I've seen Steven Yuen recently (Nope) after a long time of never seeing him anywhere. This guy should get more work -- he seems to have a natural knack for playing "everyman" type characters.

Knightfall (Netflix)
This may have been mentioned on this thread a long time ago. It's 2 seasons and 18 total episodes from 2017-2019.
Action series on the final days of the Templar Nights and the Holy Grail.
I didn't have any grand expectations when I started it, I just wanted background noise while I worked.
It's not some high-end HBO quality programing, but it was a real pleasant surprise. Good story lines. Excellent villains, with revenge action and a satisfying ending.

Started Beef after finishing Sharp Objects. That was a welcome shift in tone from one show to the next. Just one episode in, but that was enough to convince me to stay with it.

Finished Mandalorian S3. But for the Jack Black* episode that was a really good season and a great addition to the franchise. I'd honestly be fine if they just ended the series now.

*I like Black in almost anything, but that episode was just stupid.

Beef was great. I think they just should have stopped with the second to last episode though
Also loved Mando season 3
Currently watching succession and Barry.

Hbo as always rocks

Started watching The Diplomat on Netflix. So far pretty good pace, good actors. I like it.
Was coming in here to comment on this show. I like it quite a bit. Has kind of a feel of House of Cards being that it is about the political inner workings and how deals get going. I finished off the 8 episodes failry quick. Like you said, good pacing. Enjoyable so far and looking forward to a second season.

Yep. It was a fun show to binge-watch without taking anything too seriously. I definitely could have done without the last episode, but my original reaction to the penultimate episode was that the final shot was a way too on-the-nose and I was sort of relieved that that wasn't the end. I don't think this is a show that was ever intended to stand up to serious second-guessing. It's just a pleasant exercise in seriously hating some deeply unlikable characters, and the two lead actors absolutely nail their respective roles. Solid B+ entertainment.

Just started Godfather of Harlem yesterday and cruised through 5 episodes, needless to day I'm addicted and plan to binge this show and ignore all others until I'm caught up. I may even have to subscribe to epix for the month so I can watch it while traveling as my streaming service is sketchy on my phone.

Yet I still can't convince myself to watch it.

I had seen the name in this thread so this weekend I went to go see what it was about with the trailer and it was nothing close to what I was imagining based on the title. The title is quite offputting for some reason to me. So I decided to go with The Diplomat instead and quite enjoyed it.

I will probably eventually get to it as I am deciding between Florida Man (trailer seems more interesting) or this for my next series.

Do you enjoy watching shows where your hatred for one of the main characters runs so deep that you cheer for every misfortune that befalls her? No? Then this might not be the show for you. But if you're looking for a show featuring a character who makes Skyler White seem charming and affable, Beef is worth checking out.

To be fair, none of the other characters are likeable in any way, but I really have to tip my cap to the actress who played Amy. She really embraced this role.

Once you realize that they are all horrible people it starts to click. it was entertaining to see how these awful people continued to find new ways to screw up their lives

Was a refreshing off-the-norm type of character building (or tearing down) and storyline that kept me interested and wanting to see what kind of train wreck would happen in the next episode. It felt as if a main premise was to expose the hypocrisy of people and lifestyles. They even worked in an exposé of some of the hypocrisy in today's modern church (worship) atmosphere.

I liked the first 2 episodes of HBO's animated Fired On Mars. Guess this is a reboot of an animated short from 2016? Didn't see that one, but this is some dark humor. Being a graphic designer here on Earth, thought it hit a little too close to home. lol.

I’m a fan of dark humor, but I’m 1.5 episodes in and it’s just not hitting for me yet. There are some promising components but I’m close to pulling the plug.

I can't remember - did they zoom a black circle in at the end of the other seasons? It felt like this was meant to be the end, and that the next time we'll see him is in other shows and whatever meetup they have to fight Thrawn.

I enjoyed The Diplomat too. They left us with quite a cliffhanger.

Want to continue to prop up Lucky Hank.
Episode 6. The scene when the mom tries to arbitrate between the daughter and son in law is great. I watched it, then rewound it and watched it again.
The scene where he finally meets with his father. It was somewhat predictable, but Odenkirk's acting response to what was unfolding was nothing short of spectacular.
The relationship with his co-workers is so ridiculously realistic.

Bravo! Great show! Great writing! Can't recommend it enough.

AMC.

Watched the first two episodes of Maisel season four last night (though I had basketball on another screen so wasn’t fully paying attention). They weren’t bad, though still nothing like the genius that was the first season. I do hope that her being a writer on a tv show means more jokes and standup this season because I really have lost all care for the backstories of the characters.

Netflix is removing Bordertown from their lineup on May 9, so if you want to watch a good Nordic noir series now's the time. The main characters, especially the 3 family members, are extremely well-written and -acted. For me the ending was just gut-wrenching, but there's a heck of a good, creepy story along the way. Set in Finland, near the Russian border. 3 seasons, 31 hour-long episodes total. The main character, police detective Kari Sorjonen, is one you'll remember.

Yeah this show is pretty good, although I haven’t been giving it my full attention when I watch

I'm almost done with episode 5 and I'm still in the stage of what am I watching here? Not sure how I feel about it, but it does keep my attention.

We're watching it for the first time and almost finished with Season 1. It's not bad and will continue but I hope it improves.
Not sure what you're looking for but it's 5 more seasons of what you are getting now with one, big over arching plot per season and some new players interspersed as you go along with the regulars. If you're not into season 1, probably no reason to continue on.

I disagree I thought S1 gets pretty slow in the middle with some 1 off type episodes. I feel like S2 is where the full season plots really come into play

I’d keep going

Yeah, season 2 is the best one and season 3 is really good. Stays good but there’s a dip in the last couple seasons. Season 2 is up there among my favorite seasons of any show.

Yeah hard disagree, season 1 of Justified is more episodic than the rest. If you are singing the same tune at the end of season 2 then I’d agree with beer 30, no need to keep going, but you gotta get through season 2

Thanks all.
Like I said, we're liking it well enough to continue but hope it develops a more concise story, less episodic. Sounds like it does so thats good.

It does. You're right at the spot where the show figured out what it wanted/needed to be. Season 2 to the end is very very good tv. Beer 30 is right, there are a couple of series-long arcs and each season has a good arc as well. If you aren't all-in by the end of season 2 it isn't for you, but I'd bet dollars to donuts you will be.

Yeah I gave up on justified season 1. Sounds like I need to startup again.

Rewatching this seriesnow and wow. It's better than I had remembered it.
