I have cable interwebs. If I go from my cable modem to my router then router into an ethernet wall port will that power all of the ethernet ports in the house? My guess is no.

No it won't...unless somewhere along the way that ethernet cable is plugged into a switch/hub/other router along the way.

You need an Ethernet wall port on the other end (Think one for sending and one for receiving although they do both ;) ). Pretty sure some models allow multiple receivers for one sender.

I have 2 Ethernet drops currently. So plugging my router into one should technically make the other live since it is only one port correct?

Assuming they are the same make and model, the other should be live, regardless of where in your house you put it.

Let me explain a bit more clearly.

I have a media cabinet with a coax and Ethernet connection. Near my desk I only have Ethernet. So in the media cabinet with a cable modem, I go from coax to modem to router to Ethernet drop in media cabinet. If the only other Ethernet drop is by my desk would I be able to plug a desktop straight into that Ethernet drop?

Yes. If you only have 2 Ethernet wall ports in your home they must be connected by a cable in the walls. It just takes a minute to verify. Make sure an ethernet cable goes from the router to the media cabinet plug, then plug something into the drop by the desk and see if it finds the wired network. If you are plugging into a desktop you'll also see lights flashing on the input where the Ethernet is plugged in.

Same make and model? Unless I'm misunderstanding he has a wall port in each room and an Ethernet cable connecting them in the walls. That's it.

I misread your problem. I was thinking about the items that send Ethernet data over electrical cables. There are plugs you put in two outlets and attach Ethernet cables to them and Boom! Ethernet in the second room.

Sorry guys. I Must have been drunk in my explanation. Thanks for the help. Bringing a laptop and 2 Ethernet cables over today to test.
