Stupid Baby Names (1 Viewer)

So, what names work?

Boys:

William

John

Joseph

James

Steven (Christ forbid if you use the "ph" version)

Alexander

George

Basically, any presidential or British royalty first names.

Girls:

Jane

Etc.
'ph' is the correct spelling of Stephen. My family's rule is if there is a saint with that name, you can use it. Otherwise GTFO.

You can add: Callum and Daschel to the list.
Are those boys names?
Yes, I guess they could be girls names as well since people seem to have lost their minds when it comes to naming their children. It's funny because I take my daughter to a couple of parks in my neighborhood in LA and a lot of entertainment folks live around here and these kids have the worst names ever. I hear all these names being called by the parents and I'm like WTF?!? I think I know the reason for it, a lot of these parents are from poor white trash beginnings and just happened to get a job in the entertainment industry and they think by naming their child something unique and high brow sounding they are raising their class status.
Ok, I added them.Daschel seems as though it must be German. So let me say that if it is and a person in Germany names their kid Daschel, then it's not stupid. But if it's merely an idiot American naming their kid Daschel because it's trendy or "sounds cool" then it's stupid.Hope I'm slowly clarifying the rules in some way.

I'm at the park right now with my little girl and I just heard a mom call her daughter.... Mandrake.

Are you effin kidding me?!?

To me, a lot of these names sound like a middle class person's idea of what an upper class name is. The one that started the whole trend was Madison as a name for girls. It's never been a name, and it actually has the word "son" in it - and yet it became one of the most popular girls' names in the U.S. for a number of years.

True upper class names are, as someone said, those that sound like British royalty: Andrew, Elizabeth, William, James, Catherine, etc.

Here are some more bad names:

Tyler (boy or girl)

Tucker (boy)

Colby (boy)

Tate (I know 2 girls with this name)
I think that's a good call. That does seem to be a starting point for all the madness. And I think the girls names led the charge for a long time until the proper wussification had taken place for fathers to start giving in on their sons' names.

I like it when parents say "it's our child we ll name him whatever we want" or "we kept it to ourselves because we didn't want comments from everybody else" or "we named him Gaylord Grayson Graybush because we had to get another G name in there with the letters G.A.Y., it's a tradition".

Guess what. It might be YOUR kid but it's his/her name. Don't make it something stupid. The kid has to start school not to far down the road and the ####### name you gave them ain't helping thier street cred one bit. Look at my child he's such an individual with his name Styyvon. O my little Macedonia is such a little princess.

Well little Styyvon just got a wedgie and black eye from Brandon who's already got to second base with Kayla. And Macedonia just got zero valentines on valentines day because none of the boys in her class could spell her idiotic name.

It's not your name, don't be selfish. Keep it simple.

Rant over.

Added: Taylor (boy and girl), Liam, Finn (it became apparent from the other thread that all parents are considering this name, not just Irish parents)

Added Declan, because I've heard it mentioned a few times as a possible baby name (although have never heard of it actually used).

Which brings me to a new rule: if you know of at least two people with a given name (or if it was considered by multiple people) then it may be added to the list. That should keep us from having to include every idiotic name that some stupid couple comes up with (e.g. Apple, Moonpuppy).

I forgot to include: "or if one FBG has named their kid a given name"i.e. You must know of at least two people with a given name (or a name considered by multiple people), OR one FBG has a kid with a given name (e.g. Tayla).

And again, why do people insist on using last names (e.g. grandmother's maiden name) as a first name? I'll give a little leeway on the middle names, but I really don't like this practice at all.

I think I'll have to add Davis to the boys list. That's just stupid.

Because I liked the name and have seen several with the first name already. And talk about some huge brownie points with my Mother-in-law.Though my dad (David) thinks he was somehow named after him.

I never liked the name Kirsten. I know it's somewhat popular so it may not apply to the topic, but it just annoys the hell out of me.

I was pressing hard to get our daughter to be named Lovejoy Elizabeth.

Went with Abigail Elizabeth instead.

My wife is smarter than me.

Obviously.
Well, I was mainly wanting her to go by Elizabeth, so I wanted a bizzare first name to force that action. My wife's family tradition is for the firstborn female to have Elizabeth as the middle name.
Interesting thought process. I can see where you're coming from, but giving your kid a stupid name can't really be justified with anything.
