Saw something today saying some group there was having a contest to see who can spit the farthest. Anyone with even half a brain wouldn’t want to be around that type of idiocy.I have a buddy there sending me snaps everyday and it looks like a ghost town.
Looked like the same bar. Did they rebuild after the fire?I miss the Full Throttle TV show. That was awful reality TV, but, that's my go-to brainless genre.

Maybe he went to Sturgis, Michigan.I have a buddy there sending me snaps everyday and it looks like a ghost town.
Yeah, 250-300k in attendance reported. Bottom line, Smash Mouth is really all you need to know, end of storyMaybe he went to Sturgis, Michigan.
who won?Saw something today saying some group there was having a contest to see who can spit the farthest. Anyone with even half a brain wouldn’t want to be around that type of idiocy.
Ive heard that number thrown around. Is that the average annual attendance, or was that what they were actually projecting for this year? The bar in the video looks pretty empty.Yeah, 250-300k in attendance reported. Bottom line, Smash Mouth is really all you need to know, end of story
The level of selfishness in this country is astoundingAnd then they go home and spread that to everybody. I can't even joke about it. I guess all you can do is laugh, but it doesn't seem funny.
I think it's based in ignorance and machismo, really. It's got a biker vibe to it, much like the "Can You Pass The Acid Test?" and lacing Kool-Aid with LSD used to appeal to that segment of the population.Ilov80s said:The level of selfishness in this country is astounding
Machismo for sure. Ignorance though? Do you think they haven't heard about COVID? They aren't capable of understanding how disease is spread?I think it's based in ignorance and machismo, really. It's really, more than anything, has an individualist spirit in a time where what is called for is collective action. (Or inaction, as it were.)
People are still having trouble wrapping their heads around the disease, yes. The general distrust -- especially among bikers, of all people -- of experts and government and communities with limits goes very far in this, I think.Machismo for sure. Ignorance though? A biker rally where 300k people all dressed similarly, riding motorcycles and connections to biker gangs seems like the opposite of individualism.
Maybe that’s just where we disagree. I see the skepticism of experts as being selfishness. It’s an assumption that you, the non-expert, have a better understanding of the complex topic than an actual expert who has dedicated their life to it. Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. These people mostly have all the knowledge, but are choosing to either believe what they want to believe or are unwilling to accept opinions that contradict their values or ideas.People are still having trouble wrapping their heads around the disease, yes. I think if you said your second sentence at a biker rally you'd get bopped in the noggin. They ain't 1 percenters for nothing, you know. They're thumbing their nose at the accredited establishment. Plus, they might really not care if they die.
Many of the bikers interviewed think the virus is a manufactured story and basically a hoax. As for distrust of the government, there are Trump banners and t-shirts all over Sturgis. Check out this biker chick.People are still having trouble wrapping their heads around the disease, yes. I was going to say something about President Trump being an outsider candidate but the thread would have been predictably derailed if I did. And I could have said he is or he isn't. Either way, the thread still would have blown up.Many of the bikers interviewed think the virus is a manufactured story and basically a hoax. Indeed on the bikers as acting as conforming non-conformists like teens do. I agreed with you before, I just left it unwritten. We all, as we age, seek out our likenesses in our peer group. Perhaps anti-establishment is what I meant when I used the term "individualism," which ironically, has a negative connotation qua term in Europe of all places, a continent where they seem to have quarantined the disease through collective action.Maybe that’s just where we disagree. As for the “I’m going to show how unique of an individual I am by joining a pre-established culture that has its own uniform, language, music, events and established way of life” isn’t unique to bikers. I see the teens do it all the time at school. Nothing wrong with it, normal human behavior. It’s just not actually being very individualistic.
Just my 2 cents. No matter what though, it’s frustrating and has me continuing to question a lot of things.
Dang Simey...what did we do to deserve this? Many of the bikers interviewed think the virus is a manufactured story and basically a hoax. As for distrust of the the government, there are Trump banners and t-shirts all over Sturgis. Check out this biker chick.

Expecting lots of this in 5 weeks or so, especially with the overweight and old demographic at Sturgis, plus they will bring it home to wherever they live. How many twitter threads need to happen where it is "just a hoax/flu, no one can take my freedom and make me wear a mask" -> 1 week later "whoa, really sick, this is no joke" -> 3 weeks later "this is soandso's family, letting you know that they have passed away" before potential skeptics have some self reflection and realize that the world is not trying to pull a prank on them by having them wear a mask and stop going to bars. There are a ton of them who have followed this script already.
There is over 200,000 bikers there, and most are not wearing masks.Based on the lower attendance, it appears that the rest of the world may owe Biker Guys an apology. They seem to be showing a higher level of courtesy and responsibility than previously believed.
Is that at one time? I suppose it doesn't matter, but seems relevant. There is over 200,000 bikers there, and most are not wearing mask.

The news showed the inside of a bar that had a top and bottom floor and it was packed with people, and all of them were maskless. Is that at one time? I suppose it doesn't matter, but seems relevant.
The videos and webcams show nearly zero masks, but they seem to be doing most things outside.
According to Full Throttle Saloon's schedule, Jackyl is playing tonight at 7:30.Is Jackyl playing this year?
oops..... https://www.punknews.org/article/73239/smash-mouth-sturgis-show-connected-to-100-covid-19-casesYeah, 250-300k in attendance reported. Bottom line, Smash Mouth is really all you need to know, end of story
Interestingly, these researchers applied the same methodology to the BLM protests and the Trump Tulsa rally and find no discernable impact for either, primarily (they suppose) due to offsetting decreased social mobility / increased protective measures from those local but not attending.University of Colorado estimates that there are over 250,000 cases now linked to the Sturgis Rally- 19% of all current cases representing a public health cost of $12B

Great points.Probably lots of issues with the bike rallyInterestingly, these researchers applied the same methodology to the BLM protests and the Trump Tulsa rally and find no discernable impact for either, primarily (they suppose) due to offsetting decreased social mobility / increased protective measures from those local but not attending.
The Sturgis Rally was quite a bit larger in population and duration compared to the Trump rally. I imagine that in total the BLM protests were on par for population, but much more spread out geographically, thus much less concentrated.

Weird. You would think someone would have spoken up and warned that this was a possibility.University of Colorado estimates that there are over 250,000 cases now linked to the Sturgis Rally- 19% of all current cases representing a public health cost of $12B
