I'm probably not going to have time to keep up with updates throughout the year and whatnot like I have the past few years. So I'm posting the rosters, in case anyone wants to download and maintain a database throughout the year for their own amusement or (hopefully) to post interesting updates in the thread each week:

Download

It's a zip file containing two excel spreadhseets, one is a list of all the players in the contest with price, team, etc. and the other is a large file containing all 14,000+ rosters. I have the week 1 scores in a separate file on a different computer, if anyone's interested shoot me a PM and I can send those later in the week. For week 2 onwards you'll have to update it yourself. Also I think the file I uploaded doesn't have a field to flag staff entries, but that's easy enough to add yourself also. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks, Iggy...I haven't had access to the full contest database for a couple of years and I have missed knowing where the cut was at any given moment. Now I just need to set it up to actually calculate scores!

I think there will be a low cut line this week - seems like scoring is down compared to last week.

I'm at 146.90

+

(Redman/Wilson) - (6.7 Flex/8.0 Flex/12.9 RB/15.0 RB)

+

(Streater/D Thomas) - (6.7 Flex/8.0 Flex/15.5 WR/15.6 WR)

+

(J Thomas) - (6.7 Flex/8.0 Flex/21.5 TE)

+

(Brown/Hauschka)

Cincy - 14

Wait, you're buying the backup of your backup? Uh, okay. To each their own I guess. I think that money would be used much better elsewhere.
Well, I don't really look at RGIII as my back-up - this week, sure. But I expected to use RGIII as often, or more, than Manning -so long as RGIII was healthy. I still look at them as 1a and 1b in a best ball format. I've just hedged on 1b a little.
Either or. Doesn't matter. The point is, that $3 could be have been used for Thomas, Thompkins, a K, a D, etc. instead of a QB3 who will most likely never score (or may not even play a snap this season)... and if he does score, something has gone horribly wrong with your QB1 and QB2 that you're probably not winning the contest anyway. It is flushing money down the drain instead of trying to get value out it.
Taking backups or handcuffs aren't my style in this format, but I don't think it's as ridiculous as some people are making it out to be. At least one member of the Footballguys staff (Jeff Haseley) took that tack spending $7 on Foles to handcuff his Vick selection......

Again, I don't agree with the strat but I think it's wrong to dismiss it out of hand.
So you're saying staff members can't make stupid mistakes?

Everything I know in life I learned from beer.

To wit: Bud Light - "It's only weird if it doesn't work"

Week 2 and already out Amendola... Lacy... Bush... they'll all be back sometime this season but... :wall:

Sitting at 195.4 with Bernard, Eifert, and Vance McDonald at -6 and -9 respectively for flex.

Excellent. Now give me step by step insructions how to accomplish the merge and we'll be done. Oh and a free hosting site and instructions on how to get people to send me 4.99

You're the best. I'll have a lot of fun playing around with this data.

I stated clearly that I don't agree with this strategy, and I never stated that staff members couldn't make stupid mistakes. I think we should all be able to agree, however, that someone who is sufficiently competent with fantasy football as to work for this site would be about the least likely person to make such an error.

My stance is that this strategy isn't inherently absurd. It's quite a stretch to get from "sub-optimal" to "stupid mistake". It's pretty easy to make the case that backing up your QB produces dead money on your roster. That being said it's not hard for me to see a scenario where you decide that your starting quarterback presents tremendous value, but is risky to finish the season. Foles has shown he's competent and it's feasible that he could step in after a Vick injury and perform well enough to carry a team that's strong enough in other areas.

Again, I don't support this idea in this format, but I can certainly see why someone might give it a try. To me it just seems that a large number of obviously educated fantasy players here were treating it like it's an automatic loss and shouldn't even be considered. In my mind this forum (and this thread in particular) is composed of some of the best amateur minds in fantasy football, and it's disturbing to see ANY strategy treated with such callous disregard.

I think people are getting a little carried away with the TE love based on one big week.
There were good prices on TEs, and with 2 Flex spots this year I picked 3 TEs as well, having only picked 2 in the past few years.
One of the things I want to do with Iggy's data is break down the value at the different positions. I'm pretty sure I'm going to find a larger percentage of value tight ends than wide receivers. The other thing I feel is that as the season progresses we're going to see better consistency at the TE spot.

It's going to be fun seeing how things shake out over the course of the year.

had $3 left over and didn't know who to pick, so just nabbed a rookie (Terrance Williams) from my alma mater. Don't play in a TE league, and so wasn't aware of Julius Thomas. Doh!

So glad this week is a freebie. Had 219.8 last week, but dropped to 144.4 this week.

My WR/RB/TE positions all dropped significantly. I had three from this position break 30 last week and this week no one broke 20.

Glad it happened now as I doubt I'll see that kind of perfect storm of sucktitude again.

207.33 with suisham-9 to go.

Vick+Brady looking good so far. Vick can carry my early weeks until he gets hurt, just in time for Gronk and Amendola to get healthy for Brady. :)

RBs are the suck so far though. Ridley, Matthews, Lacy, and Daryl Richardson. Sad that Richardson has scored for me both weeks so far.

WRs looking good, even with Amendola hurting already. Dez Bryant, Desean Jackson both look like super-studs, Givens is good for a big game now and again, and Vincent Brown/Kembrell Perkins should score for me every so often. Add Josh Gordon coming back next week and I should be good there.

TEs I went with 4, and even with Jeff Cumberland not seeing any action, my other 3 have been good so far. Jordan Cameron, Antonio Gates, and Julius Thomas should be good for at least 2 good scores most weeks, if not 3.

3 kickers with NYG, PIT, and SEA are all decent options.

BUF defense is good for some decent points, and DET has scored well both weeks so far. OAK will have a good week every s often.

All in all, my RBs worry me the most. I feel confident at all other positions, but I think hey will be my downfall absent some more action from Ridley and Matthews.

185.9 but I get Gordon back next week...

Current injuries/suspension players: Dwayne Allen, Justin Blackmon, David Ausberry, Josh Gordon (coming off suspension :pickle: ), Kai Forbath
