I am getting married next month and want to buy a suit for the wedding. I don't wear suits that often, but do occasionally wear them for work. I want to buy something nicer than I currently own for the wedding, but will be a good suit I can wear for years to come. 

As an occasional suit wearer I am pretty inexperienced in suit shopping. I am thinking that I want to get fitted for something, but maybe off the rack with some fitting would also be fine. I have $1500 in mind as a budget, but who wouldn't want to spend less. I am also open to spending more if it is worth it. I am going to Vegas this week and plan to do some shopping while there.

Advice? I am looking for general suit shopping suggestions, but also if anybody knows a good place in Vegas I should check out. 

 
Sounds like you should look for a local custom suit maker that can fit your budget. I'd be wary of buying in Vegas because you could still need additional alterations.

 
I've never gone wrong buying suits at Nordstrom, though if I wore suits for anything other than weddings/funerals any more, I would love to go custom.

 
everybody will come in and tell you to get a custom suit.. and it's solid advice.

but I'll throw out there- if you don't wear suits often, do you really need a custom suit? maybe save some money and buy a "nice" suit

 
For $1,500 you can buy a nice suit. IMO no need to spend more. Unless you are oddly shaped, just buy off the rack and get it altered.  I did a made to measure once and it was fine, but I wouldn’t do it again.  If you want to spend that much, if it were me, I’d get a suit made by Samuelsohn.  Great quality for the price.  I would think in NC you’d be able to find a classic men’s shop that stocks them.  Hickey Freeman or H Freeman make good quality stuff.  
 

If you like classic stuff, you can buy Ivy styles from O’Connell’s in Buffalo.  Good quality and excellent customer service.  Downside is potential trial by error and shipping things back and forth given the time frame.  But you need to like classic 3 roll 2 button stance sack suit.

Pre-COVID I bought most of my work stuff at Nordstrom.  Honestly if you don’t wear suits that much, I’d buy HSM or another mid-tier brand at Nordstrom and save $500-$700.

Depends where you go. I just bought a suit for my son's wedding. It ended up being custom because the alterations I was going to have to pay for pretty much equalled a custom suit price.

That being said a month is cutting it pretty close imo. Mine was 6 weeks

 
You're gonna need to move quick if you want anything done by the wedding. 

Go with navy blue or charcoal, stay away from patterns, if this is going to be your 'best' suit. Two buttons, for sure.

I don't really need a nice suit outside of the wedding, but I do think it is worth spending a bit more for a wedding suit. I will be looking at pictures forever 

 
Congrats on getting married.  I would ask people you know if they can recommend a great tailor.  I have one here and you can either have him make the suit or buy one and bring it to him to fit to you and it will look great.  You can get a nice suit off the rack, but I wouldn't have it tailored at the store unless they're known in particular for having good tailors.

For the money you are willing to spend (and I would tell you not to spend more than a grand), find a good local tailor, buy a classic lightweight wool suit. Ralph Lauren, Todd Snyder, Hugo Boss.

I am in a small city. I am not confident we have a goid tailor

Copied from the net. Worth looking into.  I'm guessing you can pay extra for rush orders.

How long does it take to get a suit from Indochino?

You save, you order, and in three weeks you get a suit. If you need to get a tailor to tighten it up, you scan in your receipts, send them to Indochino, and they'll give you up to $75 back for your adjustments. I, personally, had to get a tuxedo made-to-measure for my wedding that they let me have to try out.

Yes.   highly recommend.   Well at least the store in Philly....

My son and the entire grooms party bought from there as well as myself

ETA:  They were who I got a custom suit made..... by custom its not made from scratch but you pick the "suit you like" but then you get all the alterations done, pick your button style, pocket style, cuff, collar, lining etc etc.....

They took 5 weeks though...... Then on pick up day the on site tailor button up a couple things
