Sunday News and Inactives -- First Post Updated All Day (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
We'll be posting this weekend's critical inactives and news in this space all day long. I'll be continually updating the first post with information this morning, fleshing out the injury unknows before and after the inactives start rolling out around noon ET.

Current major issues:

Sunday Late Afternoon Games

SF S Michael Lewis did not practice Friday and was added to the injury report as probable. He is ACTIVE today.

SD LB Shawne Merriman is listed as probable with his extremely unstable knee. He practiced all week long but is at risk of missing significant snaps according to Norv Turner and Ted Cottrell.

DAL LB Anthony Spencer is OUT this week with a knee injury. Greg Ellis becomes a very intriguing play in sack heavy systems.

DAL CB Terence Newman is struggling with a groin injury and is INACTIVE today.

CLE S Sean Jones has a knee injury and was limited Friday after a full practice on Thursday. He's ACTIVE after being listed as probable and is expected to play.

CLE S Brodney Pool is INACTIVE with a concussion today.

Sunday Night Game

CHI DE Mark Anderson practiced Thu/Fri with his injured thumb and looks ready to play.

CHI DT Tommie Harris practiced fully Thu/Fri with his knee problem and says concerns about his injury are overblown. He's expected to play.

MNF Games

DEN LB Boss Bailey practiced fully all week and looks able to reclaim his starting position on Monday.

DEN DE Elvis Dumervil is listed probable with his finger injury and looks likely to play.

GB LB AJ Hawk was able to practice in limited fashion Thu and Fri with his chest wall injury. He's looking more likely to play on Monday.

Sunday Early Games

CIN DE Antwan Odom practiced fully Thursday and Friday and is presumably 100% and ready to go. He is active today but Frostee Rucker is starting for him.

BAL DT Kelly Gregg was able to return to practice in limited fashion on Friday, but remains doubtful on the injury report and is INACTIVE today.

BAL S Ed Reed is ACTIVE today after being limited all week in practice with a neck problem, but is listed as questionable and has been saying all week that he'll play.

SEA LB Lofa Tatupu is ACTIVE after being listed probable with a knee injury and practiced fully on Friday.

BUF LB Angelo Crowell is OUT and on IR with a knee injury.

BUF LB Paul Posluszny is ACTIVE after being listed as questionable with an ankle injury. He did not practice Thursday, but did some drills yesterday and said he's ready to play.

TB DT Jovan Haye is ACTIVE after being listed questionable with a groin injury. He was limited in practice all week. This has been a lingering issue since early in camp, but the team doesn't seem to be too concerned and it didn't get any play in the local media this week. The official Buc website has a paraphrased quote from Haye suggesting that he was hopeful he would play.

DET DE Ikaika Alama-Francis is INACTIVE. He wasn't listed on the injury report, and it'll be interesting to see if he was a healthy scratch in favor of Cliff Avril later today or if something happened in warmups.

NO CB Mike McKenzie is INACTIVE today. Must've been a warmup issue as he practiced fully all week despite being listed questionable.

Greetings from the pressbox at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Seahawks just announced their inactive players, and there were no surprises:

K Brandon Coutu

RB Justin Forsett

OG Mansfield Wrotto

OT Sean Locklear

WR Deion Branch

WR Bobby Engram

DE Baraka Atkins

QB Charlie Frye

With Forsett inactive, that reduces the number of candidates to return punts by one.

I'll follow up here.

Thanks for the updates. I am still concerned about J Haye. Wonder if I should go with someone else.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I wish I didnt have to make these choices week 1.

That looks like a wrap on the AM inactives. I'll post anything additional when I see it.

Not sure where Tony got the Leroy Hill inactive note, but I'll keep looking for confirmation that something happened in warmups there.
This note on the Bills official website.http://www.buffalobills.com/blog/index.jsp?post_id=3986

Seahawks Inactives: K Brandon Coutu, RB Justin Forsett, LB Leroy Hill, T Sean Locklear, WR Deion Branch, WR Bobby Engram, DE Baraka Atkins. Charlie Frye (3rd QB).

I'll wait for the NFL blog to be officially updated as the third source. I'm inclined to trust the Seahawk writer for now, but be wary if you've got another reasonable option over Hill.

We were debating who the eighth and final inactive was going to be, and it is Forsett, which obviously means he will not be returning punts. We'll have to see who does the returns.

I think Hill is active. No reason to think otherwise at this point.

Hey Jene. The inactives already are on the blog, and Hill is not among them.

I hear you guys. Posted that note above a few posts to followup on the Rotoworld post.I think it's entirely safe to trust two Seattle sportswriters and an additional personal email confirmation over the Bills website and Rotoworld. Your mileage may of course vary.

Could have something to do with the numbers of the players involved. Mansfield Wrotto, presumably the correct inactive, is 66. Hill is 56. It's possible the Bills writer was scribbling numbers rather than names.
