The Legend of Tua grows

-He is one of the most overrated Quarterbacks in the NFL
Game defining moment for him and he ****s the bed
His worst rated game of the year. Some bad throws, but not enough easy throws schemed to the TEs or short crossing patterns, or picks, like other teams. Blame both Tua and McDaniel IMO.

If Tua redeems himself vs a good KC defense on the frozen tundra, ...
KC is vulnerable but if you’ve been a fan of this team for any length of time you know this has another road, cold, nationally watched embarrassment written all over it.

34-13 sounds about right.

Also... Lenny is not even close to fat. I know that was a narrative for the past couple weeks. With Ty getting knocked out of the game early, I love upgrading from Murray to Lenny.

There's zero chance they beat kc on the road in that weather. They have ogbah and Ingram as their only rushers. Those two are turdible

Nothing to be embarrassed about. We've got better things to do, unless our teams are playing great.

He's a C+ QB at a time when that is probably a top-12 QB.

If I were running the Dolphins he's playing on the 5th year option, unless he lights up the playoffs.
They already exercised it.
I know, I mean I wouldn't offer an extension at all.
I am with you.....someone else can pay
Him 50MM.

**** that.....that is simply insane to me.

On the replay of the INT to Claypool ... gives some blame to Claypool. He doesn't run good patterns. Cracraft or Wilson is a better route runner. Hindsight ... Achane should've been in on that last drive, he could break one as a runner and he's a good receiver, there was time.

I think what Trav means is that he would not extend Tua and replace the 5th Year option, he would make Tua play for $23M next year.

Tua played for $4M this year, look it up
Baker Mayfield played for $4M this year, could Baker have succeeded with the Dolphins?

Whats plan b? Some free agent vet? Do u just trade him or let him play out the 5th year? I personally think we're stuck with him.

Berrios is also better than Claypool. Dunno why Claypool was the go-to in clutch time. Weird.

Play out the 5th year. Start over.

I don't care because what have we done in the last 30 years? Ask yourself that.

Nothing.

I felt at one point this was our best team since 1994 and you know it probably is. But we have collapsed yet again.

I don't want to hear about injuries. Every single team has tons of them.

When we needed something special from the QB position we got bubkas.

The problem is Tua threw for 4,500 yds and also didn't get injured or miss a start this season
He also is starting in the Pro Bowl so Tua can easily play the hold out game if Miami didn't extend him

-It's all moot and @Todem knows as well as I do that Ross is going to make sure Tua is well compensated this off season.
Doesn't matter what we say, he was drafted with Burrow and Herbert, those guys got paid plus his old friend from Alabama so he's likely getting a big pay bump

Yeah, I think we're extending him. We're actually better off cap wise if we do bc we can lower his cap hit next year and use the savings on re-signing the 4 big free agents we still have.

But you thinking vet or rookie for the re-start? We're probably not drafting high enough to get a good rookie. You might as well trade Tua this off-season when his value is highest if you're just gonna let him walk. It's all base salary so no dead cap.

The key to the cap will be the potential exit of Ogbah-Baker which saves $25M and then they can actually part with Howard and spread the post June cap hit of just $10-$11M and spread it out over 2 seasons, saves about $20M on the cap, that instantly balances them

Next is a restructure of all the 8-digit players ATC and most have the ability to do it, basically it's converting salary to bonus money or lump sum and what player doesn't want to get it in a. lump sum before Week 1?

Miami will have enough money for next season but if they give Tua the kind of money we saw all the others extend for last summer, the team will look much different

Yeah we have a small shot. I expect our season will end next week at a frigid Arrowhead....even as weak as KC has looked.

Miami’s last playoff win on the road was against a team that’s not even in the conference anymore. They’re going to break that streak in three degree weather against the best QB of this generation with a B team defense? Yes that definitely would be a scoop.

The defense fought hard tonight and are not to blame. I just don’t see it in the above scenario. Just hoping they don’t get embarrassed at this point. -3.5 seems like a huge gift from Vegas.

It should be closer to a 10 point spread. Miami's banged up, no mojo, freezing, coach advantage, Mahomes vs Tua.

If Miami was healthy, they'd have more than a puncher's chance at KC. KC has looked so bad that it's hard to believe they're the three seed. Their offense is terrible when they're not handing it off to Pacheco. I think you'll be surprised how you guys can hang with them, provided you have enough bodies.

KC is beatable for sure. But at home? I think they escape with a win.

If the Dolphins don't want Tua, how many seconds will it take for him to find a new team? seven? nine? 15 seconds? Maybe.

And what would Miami do, exactly? Sink back to the bottom of the division? They had a shot to win the division in week 18, and they're in the playoffs. The fanbase hasn't had enough success to be this spoiled imo.

Spoiled? Spoiled?

If Tua is some kind of prize then the NFL really does suck.

IMO The following teams would consider Tua a prize in 2024 with no second thoughts:

New England
Cleveland
Pittsburgh
Tennessee
Denver
Las Vegas
New York Giants
Washington
Minnesota
Atlanta
Carolina

The following teams might have to think about it, but would be very tempted:

New York Jets
Chicago
New Orleans
Tampa Bay
Arizona
Los Angeles Rams
Seattle

The following teams would probably have an internal discussion, but would decide against it (and possibly regret it later)

Detroit
Indianapolis
Green Bay

The following teams would have no interest:

Dallas
Philadelphia
Baltimore
Buffalo (might change their minds in 2025)
Cincinnati
Houston
Jacksonville (might change their minds in 2025)
Kansas City
Los Angeles Chargers
San Francisco

If 2/3 of the league (by my estimation ) would either take him with no hesitation, be very tempted, or at least float the possibility...he's a prize. He's had a QB rating north of 100 the past two seasons, and he's 25. I don't think he's the problem.

No doubt. So what could the dolphins get in a trade? The choice is to continue to build your team around a good but not great qb that's gonna cost you a lot of money, has a couple of glaring holes in his game but is still young and improving or draft someone/sign some vet and build around that with the draft picks you received and the money you saved. I know they're keeping Tua but fun to discuss.

The Drew Brees comp is worth reviewing. 5 years in SD before leaving as a free agent to NO. SD had Rivers, pick 1.04, in the waiting room.

In his 5th year, Brees had 24 TDs, 15 INTs, a rating of 89.2. That team had Gates, Tomlinson, McCardell, some good weapons. NO offered more money. I'm not saying Tua is gonna end up like Brees, but his progression is similar. In NO, Brees usually had a big good possession WR or TE. That's missing from the Miami offense.

This. Again, I'm pretty disgusted with last nights loss, but I think most teams see what Allen can do and their QB looks small by comparison. My Main issue with Tua is when the play breaks down there is no "out" for him. He's not fast or big, and he's not as accurate throwing on the run. I guess if we are going to use Purdy as our benchmark here, when the play breaks down purdy has a few tools that he can use that I don't see in Tua's toolbelt. Maybe (like Brees) he keeps working on his game and we go from there. When Miami has to "hurry" or play from behind its just not very good.

Now, that all being said, Miami is an 11 win team with a lot of injuries. As I stated before of the 22 Starters we have 4 that have played every game this year. Tua, and three defensive players.

Anything can happen in a small enough sample size, and Fangio was smart in bringing a lot of Blitz pressure with the loss of Chubb. I assume they will blitz Mahomes as well and if they get Waddle, Mosert, and X back we may have a shot vs a reeling KC team that also only put up 14 offensive points against us in Germany. The offense has to play better.

And Miami as a sports town is an embarrassment
Nothing to be embarrassed about. We've got better things to do, unless our teams are playing great.
Truth. Miami hopping on Sunday nights.
Doesn't mean it isn't still embarrassing, the fact it sounded like a Bills home game when you are playing for the division title in week 17 against a division rival. The Eagles are falling apart worse then the Phins, fans are calling for the coach to be fired, the GM to be fired, etc and I GUARUNTEE had they been playing yesterday in Philly there would not have been more then a smattering of non-Philly fans there. And this isn't just because the Dolphins played badly the last few weeks, that many Bills fans didn't book flights and hotels last minute, the Phins fans that sold those seats or didn't buy them happened months ago when the Dolphins were playing well and the Bills weren't.

Nah he’s right. Not every fan gets to watch their team blow a 3 game lead with five to play. With the finale being to a division rival, at home, with thousands of their fans taking over the building.

It was probably a one-off thing, a fluke. I’m sure the Dolphins will bounce back on the road, in the freezing cold, against a HOF QB and coach like they always do.

Being a fan of this franchise is the complete opposite of being spoiled. It’s flat out torture.

IMO The following teams would consider Tua a prize in 2024 with no second thoughts:

New England
Cleveland
Pittsburgh
Tennessee
Denver
Las Vegas
New York Giants
Washington
Minnesota
Atlanta
Carolina

The following teams might have to think about it, but would be very tempted:

New York Jets
Chicago
New Orleans
Tampa Bay
Arizona
Los Angeles Rams
Seattle

The following teams would probably have an internal discussion, but would decide against it (and possibly regret it later)

Detroit
Indianapolis
Green Bay

The following teams would have no interest:

Dallas
Philadelphia
Baltimore
Buffalo (might change their minds in 2025)
Cincinnati
Houston
Jacksonville (might change their minds in 2025)
Kansas City
Los Angeles Chargers
San Francisco

If 2/3 of the league (by my estimation ) would either take him with no hesitation, be very tempted, or at least float the possibility...he's a prize. He's had a QB rating north of 100 the past two seasons, and he's 25. I don't think he's the problem.
Ha ha ha a perfect example of stats blinding people on a guys clear limitations to have the "ability" to win big games, keep plays alive and carry a team on his back when needed. And believe me the truly great ones have those abilities.

The league has rules that make passing stat padding incredible now. So post as many stats as you want.

Results vs top tier teams is the bottom line.

The defense did not let this team down in December. It was the offense led by Tua, Coach McD and some insanely critical drops from Tyreek (who I love and is amazing).

Yeah I would say that was this teams primary problem in this historic December collapse.

In the Tennessee game, it was a team effort. The defense gave up 2 TDs in the last 3 minutes. In the BAL game, 56 points to the Ravens.

Tua needs a security blanket, a Colston, Lance Moore, Shockey, Graham, Michael Thomas. To go along with the speedsters. That's on the GM.

The Tennessee game....did we forget the complete hack job of play calling by McD to put the game away...but yes...I agree with you on your post.

I have resigned myself to the fact he will be our QB for the foreseeable future.

But jeez man.........we have a guy where literally everything must go perfectly every single solitary play or we are screwed.

My mind is already on next year. I just have very little faith we can do anything in a frozen KC and now down our top three edge rushers.....

We are cursed man. It's the Shula curse. I am convinced of that.

I agree....my emotions are getting the best of me.....I am 53. I have been a fan since 75.

It's hard man.....so damn hard lol.

I often wonder if you and I are watching different games sometimes
But that said, I can clearly see we have similar views of what has unfolded.
The difference is I'm a little too quick at times to want to change everything, PTSD of being a Gen X Miami Dolphins' fan will do that to you.

Good news: Viewers in Miami and Broward can watch the MIA-KC game on NBC-6, no need for Peacock.

Bad news: Viewers in Miami and Broward can watch the MIA-KC game on NBC-6, no need for Peacock.

>>Dolphins-KC news this AM: 1) In Florida, only NBC-6 will be allowed to air the game on a "free TV" station (Miami-Ft. Laud). A West Palm TV station is NOT permitted to air game, per NBC. Game available ONLY on Peacock outside S. Fla.&KC. 2) Mike Tirico & Jason Garrett on the call<<

We are, but, I think we see some of it differently:

Marino vs. Jimmy Johnson
Jay Fiedler vs the drafting of Brees
Bress as a FA vs Trading for Culpepper
Drafting Tannyhill and not using his legs
Tua vs Herbert
and Now Mike McDaniel.

Only one team wins the championship each year and Miami has lifted itself from being a crap team to a good team. Are we an Elite team? No, last night proved that. Dallas has been mired in the "good but not great" morass for a while now. San Fran is likely a tier higher but they also have not won anything since 1994. Are we on the right track? I believe we are so blowing this whole thing up after our flaws have been exposed seems a bit extreme, especially when you factor in injuries. Think about what The Best coaches you know looked like in their first two years in the league and few have 10 and 11 win seasons to start their coaching resume.

My opinion is we have the right coach. We may have the correct GM for that coach, and we have an owner who is willing to spend money as he was a fan of the team before he has gobs of money. All three of those individuals have flaws, as does our QB, DC, and Star WR, BUT I'll take this team as it is over what we have had since Danny retired (or at least since Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas did). They are good enough for these losses to suck.

Miami drew the Peacock time slot?
Oh no...I am in North Palm Beach/South Martin...and I wanted to purposely not watch the Playoff game that required another streaming service.
Just another cherry to put on top of the end of this season

I was mostly kidding. Miami always has this problem. Its a byproduct of being in a great winter travel destination. This is like a vacation for Bills fans. On top of that, I don't think Miami fans have a reputation of being as nearly devoted as other fan bases. So its a market filled with lots of buyers and fans willing to sell.

That's a fair comparison and it would be wonderful if it turned out that way. I'm not getting my hopes up. But, I full expect the dolphins to hitch their wagons to Tua since there is no good plan B. If we stayed healthy, he's good enough to win a super bowl and we have a couple of years before his soon to be extension really takes its toll. Knowing this team's luck, he'll sign an extension and get another concussion. We do need a big wide receiver to open up some options on the outside. This offense is too easy to defend.
