**Sunday Night Football - Lions 6-3 at Eagles 7-2**(-3, 47) 8:20 (4 Viewers)

Game deciding penalty that’s absolute *********
lets be fair....that was NOT game deciding. Lions were VERY unlikely to drive 70 yards for a TD
Is that how we are judging if DPI calls are bunk or not? Based on what might have or might not have happened the last 1:40 of regulation with a team loaded at the skill positions?
Interesting
no MOP, but you're acting like its a foregone conclusion the Lions would have scored a TD with one more chance, and the game clearly indicated that that was very unlikely. And again, as bad as that call was (and it was terrible) the Eagles also had a couple drives ended by bad calls....remember the "false start". Refs didnt cost the Lions the game, they cost them one more desperation drive when Lions showed no ability to drive the ball all game, and especially in the second half
Say, remember when the Lions scored a TD on 2 plays with passes to ARSB & Jamo in about 30 seconds? That happened in this game against this defense.

It was a 1-score game. And while it's not guaranteed the Lions would have scored, it absolutely guaranteed they wouldn't score with that obviously bogus phantom penalty denying them the opportunity to even take the field.

I wish my team had a top GM like Roseman who identifies the issue and addresses it with quality moves.

That D is nasty
Gave up a 3rd round pick for that guy. Ridiculous. He’s like the guy in my fantasy baseball league who keeps fleecing the bottom feeders over and over and over. Maybe he’s a charming guy or something.
He's the guy in your league that keeps throwing trades out there and occasionally makes a really good one that everyone remembers. No one remembers that 3rd for Golden Tate or the 4&6 for Kevin Byard or 4th for Robert Quinn or 4th for Genard Avery.

But when you hit (3rd for Phillips or a 4th for Jay Ajayi in 2017) it looks real good. Maybe the lesson is trade with Miami in season.
Miami loves giving good things to us. Didn’t we trade AJ Feeley to them for like a 2nd?

this is fair, but woefully incomplete. That happened before Goff went 2 of 20. Before he took a dozen more hits.

Look, we ALL agree it was a terrible call....it really was. Detroit should have gotten the ball back. The difference here is most of us realize it didn't really matter. Some of us further note that this same crew called a false start and an illegal block that were both weak/incorrect and ended eagles drives. The crew in this game didnt do a very good job, but that's neither unusual for the NFL nor is it news.

That call was NOT the reason Detroit lost, period. It was the reason they didn't have a last minute desperation heave to try to force OT. Huge difference.

The refs aren’t the reason the Lions were 0 for infinity on 4th downs
No but that was a phantom DPI that denied the Lions of a last drive.
Can’t even believe that call. We had a great finish that we were robbed of.
The call was really bad, but we weren’t robbed of anything except a couple more hurries and sacks.
But we don't know that.
Clearly you don't, but most of us do ;)

The Lions still had to opportunity to get the ball back after that play but proceeded to give up another 1st down to Philly.

Look the call was bad. But I heard today Goff was 2 for his last 20 attempts. They were out of timeouts and could not stop the pass rush, all of his throw seemed hurried.

Should Goff had had a chance? Sure. I've said time and again officiating is just bad in the NFL, people pick certain moments to magnify this fact.

But the probability of what we saw and what we know, of Goff + Co. going downfield to tie the game up? I'd say less than 2-3% tops.

It just wasn't Goff's night, obviously, the stats bear that out - the career worst completion %, the 5 PBUs by DTs, the hurries/hits. Just a rough night.

If you go back and look at my OP this exchange is based off of, I never said it was the reason they lost, nor did I ever say they were guaranteed to score if they had that drive.

Agree to disagree.

Which means I agree that you’re incorrect.

Again, they scored on 2 plays earlier in the game against an arguably fresher defense.

It is absolutely possible that they could have scored with a minute and change.

But the refs didn’t want to take that chance.
:penalty:
I hear ya, truly do. Possibility and probablity 2 different things is all.

Anyways...should be fun playing the Cowboys this week, this schedule doesn't let up

About the OT part.

One person in our friend group at the game is a Lions fan. He predicted that the Lions would score at the end of regulation to make it 16-15, and then Campbell would go for 2 and fail.

Note: I’m not a Lions fan. I just feel like all fans got robbed of a more exciting finish by a terrible, terrible, obviously terrible call.

Whether the Lions got robbed of a W or not, we will never know.

I agree with this, as an unbiased fan of the game, I would feel robbed of a chance to see them tie it up, maybe go to OT. I get that for sure.

As a 100% die-hard Eagles fan I will admit that at that moment I felt a teeny weeny tinge of sadness for Lions fans when the refs blew that call at the end. Less than a split-second later, I was overjoyed.

Oh, refs blew another call? So what? Big deal. Par for the course again this year. The refs screw up every game. Get over it.

I may state that the refs suxor or made a bad call but, you will never, ever catch me saying the refs caused the Eagles to lose a game. Sorry, that is just coward talk.

100%. I was pissed that we didn’t get a chance at free football. With the way the Eagles D played, my money would have been on the Eagles stopping them. With all of that said, a bad call near the end of the game should not trump bad calls earlier in the game. There were bad calls against both teams (like pretty much every other game).

Yup pretty much this (sans the die-hard Eagles part lol).

Due respect, but that’s kind of generic for what seems like a more nuanced discussion. Not all calls are of equal impact or outcome. There are also degrees of bad calls. This one was egregious for 2 reasons:
1. There was no DPI
2. The ball was arguably not catchable
And (a soft) #3. Given the context in which this occurred, what so much on the line, getting it wrong is just inexcusable.

Anyway, seems like we all agree that it was a 🐶 poopemoji call, so no need to keep beating the horse.

I can’t disagree with any of this.
