Our schedule next year is nuts (outside of the normal NFCE runs which have gotten harder with Washington- we've got @BillS, @Packers, @KC, @Vikings, @ Chargers, Lions, Rams, Denver, TB). I can pick 6-7 losses without breaking a sweat from that list.

I had this as more or less a pick 'em, but I think Philly is who they thought they were back in '23. The Chiefs are excellent even with all the close games.

Should be a good one. I think Philly is better, but Mahomes handling the ball every snap from center is a big advantage because Saquon won't (though I'd run him thirty-plus times if I could—and I think they will try), and those two are by far and away the best players on each teams' respective offenses.

Will Mahomes miss throws? That's what I want to know. He's missed a few this year and it's been noticeable. If he's on, we've got a barnburner, I think. Lots of WR screens to Worthy and Brown. Not many deep shots with Fangio's Cover 2. Man, I'm getting excited and it's next week we have to wait for.

So, I was curious about Vic’s record against Big Red. Not looking so good for Philly.

I didn't even click the link, but Fangio is responsible for slowing down the KC machine by playing cover two and having his safeties hang bang deep. I forget what year it was, but it was when he was with Denver and KC was steamrolling everybody up until that defense. Then the league copied it a year later and you saw a drastic slowdown in KC and Mahomes.

And they know it, too. It was Fangio that put the krypton in the Reid/Hill/Mahomes combo and once Hill left it was done for good because nobody had Tyreek's jets to beat what Fangio was running.

So don't worry about the link and whatever it said. It needs to be in context and judged accordingly.

Tooling around later, I saw that those W/L records didn’t tell the whole story. Somebody else listed that Mahomes’ 3 lowest rated/ lowest stat games all came against that Vic Fangio D during his time in DEN.

I can’t wait to see them play. This should be a really epic game.

Cool. Glad that I didn't misremember. Mahomes is my dynasty QB and I've been seeing red ever since Fangio figured out what to do to slow him down.

Doesn't mean Patrick doesn't still win (he's won two SBs since then). It just means that nobody was going to give him chunk plays. Now every team is running it against every other team because it was such an effective defense that it caused a seismic shift not just in how to defend Mahomes, but also how to defend everybody in the NFL.

That's why you've seen the movement back to running the ball, which I can't take credit for noticing (that goes to others and guys around here like Matt Waldman). Saquon is back because of cover two and nickel bases (and a great OL mixed with a generational talent).

The Vermeil years where they couldn't play defense. And then all the lean years in between all of those. So I am ingrained to have playoff pain, and consequently despite the success now I still see the flaws.

All those failings override even the most positive thoughts I have. Look, I know the Chiefs are a good team, but I also know they haven't really played their best, complete football in a couple years.

Everybody thinks I'm just trying to reverse jinx all this time but at my core I'm a realist and focus more on the flaws. It sucks but I can't shake 50 years of heartbreak just like that.

If we can hold KC to 50% of scores to be FGs and we are 75% of scores TDs, I think we win.

I am very curious about how we will run the ball. I still believe the best way to beat KC is to keep Mahomes off the field. This means slow and long drives. We kinda didnt see that to open the Was game and it ended getting me a bit nervous as we scored on long plays. All that to say I think if we can reduce the overall number of possessions we win.

I believe the bolded, and being honest ya know, back when the Cowboys were bandwagon ASF - it was mainly my family members, and BFF from HS that were the die hards, but man, do I meet those star-wearing mfers literally everywhere. There was no intranet back in the VHS days, and even the early Pats dynasty days, but yeah over the years it gotta to be unbearable. Just the national media and everyone including broadcasters of Super Bowl games the Pats are in, just unable to hide how much they loved them. And ESPN being in MA and all. Ugh. Annoying.

I can't imagine him seeing a lot of snaps. He hasn't played in 2 months and obviously won't be 100%. Maybe just situational pass rusher? Huff won't sniff the field.

If BG dresses I’d think that Huff would not. You can’t just add BG. Someone has to be replaced.

There is zero way on earth they opened his practice window and he is NOT dressing. Just for the emotional boost to the young defense alone...and *if* he can actually be productive....

This is a good read with a doctor's input. The risk of further injury is the concern and lack of strength, making him less effective. If that happens on his first snap, you'll want another body, even one as useless as Huff.

The thing is Jalen is better against man than zone, historically speaking. He isn't great against the blitz against either style, really, but he is IMO much better against man than zone. And while he doesn't toss INTs often, if he does, its usually against some sort of zone.

Seems like there is a lot of potential for boom/bust on the KC Defense/Phi Offense side of things.

When KC has the ball/Eagles defense I expect/hope it to be boring

If you're Kansas City's defense, you almost have to go with a zone coverage. Man-to-man might work against other offenses that don't boast weapons like Goedert, Smith, Brown, and Barkley. In the last Superbowl, I felt Jalen outperformed Patrick. The Eagles' run game, minus Jalen, was lackluster, and that fumble recovery for a touchdown was particularly painful. This year, the Eagles will likely pressure Patrick more effectively, given there were no sacks in the previous game. At times, Philly has been dominating with their running game, but their passing attack can be equally lethal. Running touchdowns tend to be safer to score, in my opinion.
