Survivor Season 48 -David was just joking with his season long death stares! (15 Viewers)

I like all these people left but good grief play the damn game. I have no idea what Kyle, Kamila and Shaulin are waiting for.

I just have to think that those 3 are waiting until 3 is a majority. I don't think they want to make a fivesome with Mary and Mitch, oust Joe, then deal with Eva as an unpredictable free-agent who could join with Mary and who knows what happens then. If you have a tight 3 and a couple of maybes... better off sometimes to wait. Risky for sure, but, they could see it as riskier to upset things now. Everything is risk at this point. All moves pivot things.

For sure, though, glad I binged the first 9 episodes... the reaction online (here, reddit, podcasts, elsewhere) is a much different interpretation than I've had. I maybe should have waited even longer to catch up... without all this "why aren't they doing anything?" every episode frustration it's a different experience. The game flow to watch along doesn't have the boredom factor because you can get through all these obvious boots in a day.

Eva: she had an autistic episode earlier in the season (& I’m not debating that)
But is anyone else surprised that we really haven’t seen another ?
Is possible it/they existed but weren’t shown. It’s also possible that she’s gotten more comfortable with the environment as the game has gone on.

I'm not. Eva was able to focus on the objective at hand to stall her episode. Perhaps she is storing for another episode later. Perhaps she's been able to process everything since then without feeling overwhelmed. Also her and Joe weren't on the same tribe when she became overwhelmed perhaps just having him close helps.

If Joe was blindsided, we might have seen one.

I still can’t believe they didn’t send Joe home. I hope that means Kyle is getting smarter. Joe is my day 1 pick in my family watch group, but I’ve been upset at how it feels like he and Eva have zero clue that their alliance isn’t that secure. I’m also hoping Kyle understands that Kamilla would see him as a big threat after Joe. Kyle has interacted and shown how he’s protecting Kamilla so he’s got a much better jury speech than here. She just missed her opportunity to look like a decision maker taking out Joe. Now, there’s almost no way she avoids either Joe or Kyle in the final 3.

True…But I would think the pressure/anxiety would increase for everyone the closer they get to the end. Especially when the paranoia of Joe or her getting blindsided start to grow.

We chatted about the show and I agree with my oldest son, it’s kind of gotten boring. I mean the last two weeks they gave us Star and Mary focused shows and they went home with no blindsiding at all. Looking back they gave us every minute of blindside talk. The David vote was the peak but honestly knowing the results, it has gotten boring.

I don’t know if it’s loyalty or Kyle thinks he can win going against Joe/Eva since he’d have most of his old tribe on the jury. I can get Kamilla’s game anymore. She’s done nothing and now at 6, I don’t know what she (and Mitch) can do.

Also, can Eva use both advantages or is safety without power gone? I’ve read conflicting opinions.

Agreed. It's all about the cast. The games foundational parameters are the same. This season is just filled with decent people. Decent people don't make as good for television as a cast of weirdos. We like weirdos. Think Brandon Hanz. Heard he just got arrested for rolling with a motorcycle gang or something.

I don’t like the weirdos either. Brandon was just crazy. I want actual good game planners not people who give up week 1 or when the “nerds” just gang up to get rid of every challenge threat. I thought this was kind of nice to actually have good challenges but the last couple of shows just got boring. Almost any style (vote off challenge stars or vote loyally) gets boring if it works and there’s no surprise. We’ve gotten two weeks of blindsiding talk followed by easy vote results. Just looking for a little drama.

SWP is gone.

This is what I heard too. And I believe this coming episode is the last time she can use her HII. I'm guessing she uses it just because. On herself if she needs, or on Joe if she gets immunity herself.

The HII is good until final 5. She did say that she will use it on herself at 6 (or on Joe if she wins immunity). Presumably she thinks she doesn’t need it for 5 because she’ll have a 4-1 or 3-2 majority.

OK, that was a Survivor episode.

I think we now realize what this "one of us has to be there at the end" talk from Kyle and Kamilla was all about. They think, probably correctly, that the best winning path is to sit with Joe AND Eva. Putting one or both on the jury will lead to bitterness because they are so fixated on the honor and integrity thing, and if one is on the jury, they will relentlessly champion the other. Eva is a goat -- I've been saying it all merge and it was said out loud by a player (I think Shauhin) this episode. That means whoever sits at FTC with them just has to make a better case than Joe. And Joe is not helping himself with all of his paranoia and botched attempts at jury management. In that context, "let's blindside Shauhin and make Joe look stupid while we do it" was an absolutely brilliant plan.

This episode also showed us what all those "Shauhin thinks he is playing the best game" confessionals were all about. Shauhin is absolutely one of those jurors who will need his ego massaged, and whoever does that the best will get his vote and probably win. This episode is hinting that that may be Kyle or Kamilla. Expect to hear "this was our plan, and we had to do it because you were playing the best game" at FTC.

I thought that reward challenge was poorly designed. Everyone made it to the last stage and then once they got there the rules about what you could do with your feet seemed kinda arbitrary.

Obviously what Eva did was super obvious but its easy to see how whether someone was "using their feet for leverage" could be interpreted in a vague way.

Very good season, IMO. No Goats and IMO everyone left would be a worthy winner in their own way.

Well played by Kyle. The Kyle Kamilla secret couple has been one of my favorite things this season. So well done.

I hate it for Shahin, he was a good player (but not as good as he thinks he is). Totally agree that Eva is along for the ride. I will say that sending her to the jury would not be as damaging as sending Joe to the jury. She is just not as persuasive as Joe.

Joe showed the previous time when he thought he was in a little trouble that he doesn't do well under pressure. He also doesn't sniff out the truth very well. He came across as very demeaning to Shauhin. I think at that point you just have to ask him "We've heard you have an idol", he deserved that much. I think Joe will feel really bad when he sees how this played out.

I think Kyle or Kamilla is our winner. I'll go Kyle because he has a shot to win immunity.

The only worry now for Kyle is if Kamilla flips and spills the beans on him. Kamilla would not have an issue sitting next to anyone in the final 3 except for Kyle. One of the 2 of them will get all the credit for a couple great moves.

Ep 12
Strong 4 = PHD Eva, Firefighter Joe, Attorney Kyle, and Professor Shauhin vs 2 indies = Software Kamilla and PE Teacher Mitch
Mitch was next up on the scheduled chopping block. Should be a high edit for him today. Let's see if they drum up a faux alternate again.

Day 22 = 4 days left

LOL - In response to another arm challenge, Shauhin comments about the work he put in on his legs - they deserve to be in a museum - funny.

Another day, just more 'we gotta take out Joe' by all but Eva.

Challenge (in stronger rain and wind) - Handholds on a decline ramp. Fall into water = out. Rain makes it harder. Shauhin has a cyst in his wrist. Shauhin gets his first win. Takes Joe and Kyle. Eva gets to babysit the 'bottom 2'. Reward is a burger meal, sleep with pillows/blankets, and letters from home.
Bonding - reading the letters and loss of family members.

Round robin of alternate theories instead of just 1:
Joe and Shauhin talk abut getting Kyle out. Wonder where Kyle was at that moment?
Shauhin and Kyle describe themselves as being in the middle - in good with the bottom 2 and also in good with the front-runners with an idol. Go to fire at 4 - play fire with the fireman? Shauhin suggests Eva at 6. Kyle internally wants to take Shauhin out.

Mitch and Kamilla are frustrated that Joe gets food, sleep, and love from his kids - unstoppable now. Mitch is pretty odd as he keeps going back and forth about making a move and never doing anything.

Day 23

Secret #1s Kyle and Kamilla = Kyle starts plan to frame Shauhin again saying he showed Kamilla his idol. Leak that to Joe and they'll try to flush it. Get him out and Mitch next guarantees final 4 for both both of the secret allies.

Challenge - Upward sandbag toss, barrel walk, crawl under heavy net, balance balls down a curvy wood obstacle game (snake track) to put them in baskets. Joe's 4th immunity win - 1 shy of tying US record. Eva could use her idol and ensure both advance.

Kyle sets his lie in motion to Joe. Can you smell what the Rock is cooking? Bullpoop. Kamilla corroborates lie. Joe still goes into paranoia mode and insinuates stuff at Shauhin. And he goes into panic mode too. Eva uses idol if Shauhin plays one.

Shauhin set up vs the easy vote Mitch?
Tribal: Eva doesn't use idol. Shauhin (4) vs Mitch (2). Shauhin gave Joe fuel and rest and earned the ticket to boot him as thanks. No debate for the professor, Kyle and Kamilla got him good. They also can now say they controlled Joe and Eva in this blindside.

Idols: Eva - hidden, but all know - good until final 5 = next tribal = she's automatically in the top 4.
Unsure how many seasons there have been where a known idol has just gone from start to finish without a flush attempt.

5 remain for the finale.

Very good season, IMO. No Goats and IMO everyone left would be a worthy winner in their own way.
I made the comment last night that it is nice to be at this point in the season and not really have anyone I am rooting against.
I like Mitch but I’d be very confused if he won, because his strategy content is almost entirely about having no power and doing nothing to change that.

I can't see Mitch or Eva getting a single vote at Final Tribal in any potential 3-way.

Yes...both very likable but haven't done anything to make a case for a win.
I also don't see Camilla winning. Her only move has been to sit in the background having Kyle come up with plans.

Sure, she had a hand in this one but basically Kyle wrote out the plan step by step for her to follow.

Eva is the only one right now guaranteed final 4.

If she is in the final 3 (without Kyle), who do you think will take credit for those plans? They were a hidden alliance from day 1 and managed to keep their alliance hidden, all the while tricking people into voting stronger players out.

When the tribes got mixed, her and Kyle were up against it, and put on a great act to get Thomas voted out. I think Kamilla even shed some tears at tribal council. The other 3 guys did not see that coming.

That was the move of the season IMHO. It set up so much for what followed. David had that breakdown when he started to bump up against their secret alliance that really motivated a lot of the post-merge as well.

I’m surprised Joe didn’t ask shauhin straight up. Being honorable and bro code and all that.
My god, I was screaming at Joe. ****ing stupid ***. I’ve been rooting for Joe since day 1 as my pick and he basically handed Kyle the win although Kamilla seems to have finally realized she can’t beat Kyle.

There was one question that Joe could ask Shauheen that would have 100% proved if he turned or not:

“Shauheen, could you empty out your bag and show me if you do or don’t have an idol?”

WTF Joe did Joe not even give Shauheen a chance to respond? All this stupid I need time to process, etc. and he and Eva never ever get Shauheen’s side, especially since his bag contains the 100% proof. I was pissed when Joe cut David loose because he was the perfect shield and was 100% loyal to the strong at the end. Joe is the type of guy who gets conned all the time and he’s not even autistic.

I’m only mad because I picked him day 1 to win the family pool and thought he might be able to break the streak. Damn, he had it but his 5 cent head couldn’t process any info. His sister even tried to drop a branch on Kamilla who was awful in her acting about Shauheen but Joe was already blinded.

Damn, Kyle is freaking smart.
Umm, he got one over on Joe but that’s like fooling Lennie into thinking Shauheen is a puppy.

To be honest, the overall move was not a great plan. It could easily be foiled if Joe wasn’t a moron who basically believes the first lie he’s fed and spends the rest of the day trying to trick someone into making the lie true in his head. Shauheen’s bag was the entire proof Joe needed to figure out who lied and he never even got close to asking to look through it. I think Kyle would have been fine just saying what Shauheen truthfully said. Bringing in Kamilla seeing the idol in his bag added a piece of the story that was easy to blow it all up.

Joe got played like a fiddle. Only chance he has to win is sitting next to Eva and Mitch at the end. Either Kyle or Camila have the ultimate trump card over him in the final 3. In fact, if I’m Kyle or Camila, I now want Joe in the final with me to drive the point home to the jury and show how brilliant it was to manipulate Joe to vote off his 2nd closest ally.

Joe is gonna watch this and do a Homer Simpson doh. They got him good. He bit hard. He was logically thinking it out but in the end just took the hook, line and sinker.

Kyle and Camila and just playing this hard. About as tactful as two can play it. I tip my hat. I actually thought they were making a mistake. Kyle could could have pulled Shauheens vote and a long with Mitch voted him out. Just felt like this plan had way to many moving parts. Now that it worked it was quite brilliant. Then split his and Camilas vote like that just throw people off the scent of what is really going on. The problem is they are gonna let the cat out of the bag eventually. Will those jury people vote for one of them because they played it so well or not vote for them for lying the entire time?

If Im Mitch and watching this I'm kinda embarrassed. He has basically had ZERO impact on the game.

Arguably the best episode of slow grind season.

The more I think about this season, the more I think Joe makes FTC but gets the Coach Wade/Mike Turner treatment from the jury and loses. Juries tend to really hate when you claim to have played the game with honor and integrity but many of them are jurors because you blindsided them.

Agree, I think this is Kyles to loose. If Joe makes final tribal, I have a hard time seeing Chrissy, David, Mary and possibly Shauhin voting for him. I feel Eva is linked with Joe and Mitch is a goat. Kamilla has a case but only if she gets there without Kyle and the edit between the two heavily favors Kyle.

maybe it's only me, but Joe's confession on the beach regarding his sister was just weird. obviously he's dealing with some terrible emotional pain from a horrible situation and violence, and to say on camera that "he's never said this out loud before" seems specious. he literally never said anything like that to his family, wife, therapist, pastor, or anyone else over the course of seven years? odd. that said, it makes way more sense why Joe is so drawn to Eva: she's a manifestation of his late sister and he recognizes her vulnerability. this gives him a purpose in the game to be her defender and protector. #amateurpsychoanalyst

also, has anyone noticed that Eva hasn't been wringing her hands when anxious since the challenge meltdown a few episodes ago? obviously, it could simply be editing or she's just super comfortable with her position in the game and doesn't feel pressure in challenges anymore.

I don't find it odd that this might be the first time he decided to speak about it out loud.
Weird he did it now

I'm 57 and last year was the first time I ever talked to anyone about when l contemplated suicide at 19. I had a plan drawn out and was ready to do it.
Luckily a friend, who I hadn't heard from in over 3 months, called me out of the blue and helped me get through the dark period.

Somethings are just VERY hard to talk about.

That's great to hear.

The game of Survivor does things to your mind and body that it has likely never experienced to that degree before. It's not surprising at all that during the process you might say or do things that you have never said or done before.

Just watched the latest ep. Agree with others that this is Kyle's to lose. But the previews make it seem like Kamila is turning on Kyle. Could be misleading though.

With how things went down, you know Eva is going to play her HII and make sure she makes it to 4. And if either her or Joe win immunity, then they both are in. Will be very interesting to see what happens if neither wins though.

Yep. It's straight out of military basic training. Take your sleep. Take your food. Apply stress. Repeat
Even though I still roll my eyes at it every single season - this is why contestants get all choked up about the letter from home.

Kyle had the "soul read" on Joe. He saw how Joe reacted earlier when Mary told him "I'm going to put one vote on you, and I have an idol". It put him into a full-on paranoid freak-out. Kyle just had Joe's number there and knew exactly how it would play out.

Before they reveal the winner, Kamilla should get the cash for helping Kyle win during final tribal council
It was honestly shocking how little Kyle said. He didn’t mention fooling Shauheen, Thomas and Joe. He didn’t mention how much he worked against David and Mary to keep Kamilla. He only mentioned they worked together and no one knew and they got Shauheen out. I was worried he didn’t say enough about his game play. I’m assuming the jury knew about the stuff he didn’t mentioned. I’m also still shocked that no one mentioned how Joe didn’t even give his buddy a chance to know what Kamilla/Kyle said.

At least the game play came out a bit but it was still frustrating at times that the game play was so bad. So many, we have to get out Joe stuff followed by regret that they should have done it before or Kamilla realizing the morning after that she can’t win against Kyle after she missed a chance to take him out. Even with Shauheen, there were so few actual moves. It’s like talking about all kinds of upsets only to turn in a chalk bracket.

While parts of the season were a little boring due to the strength of this group (and Mitch's acknowledged failure to make a move), I really enjoyed this season and think Kyle was the deserving winner. The play to get rid of Shauhin was the play of the season. He provided the reasoning to the jury for how he got rid of Shauhin, and he managed Shauhin's ego to the point where he was clapping for him. The part where he said "Respectfully to Joe and Eva, me and Kamilla were the power couple in the game". Absolutely correct, one of my favorite duos ever. I would have been happy with any of them, but the guy I rooted for the entire season disappointed me down the stretch. After defending her the whole season, I was really shocked that he allowed her to go through the anguish and practice by herself. We saw he asked her to let him do it, and she said no, but why wouldn't you go with her immediately and help her. Perhaps they didn't show us and she said "I want this on my own" but it was hurtful to watch. I really wanted Kyle to stand up and say "Let me make fire" and I think he was pretty close to doing that.

Man, was David trying to say he was just playing the whole time with the mean mugs? That's just weird, I think a producer got in his ear and told him "you are coming off terrible". Shauhin really showed off well this season, as did Kamilla obviously. Very fun season.
