Switching from 2 QBs to 1 QB (1 Viewer)

Our 10-team league voted to switch from a 2 QB league to 1 QB and expand to 12 owners. We need to revamp the scoring system and I am trying to propose a new system.

The issue I want to stay away from is the complete eradication of QB value. As it stands, QBs are worth your weight in gold in our system. We had Brady, Romo, Palmer, Manning, and Brees all drafted in Round 1.

I'd like to do a scoring system with 1 QB that doesn't completely change QBs worth to near afterthoughts. In most standard PPR-type leagues I do, I just wait until after Round 9 and I always get a good QB.

What do you do to scoring to keep their values relative without skewing the balance?

Keep passing and rushing/receiving pts per yard equal?

All TDs worth 6?

TIA

Several methods we use in our similar leagues, 1) Qb - 6 point tds 2) Super flex- a flex position that allows QB's, so some teams may choose to start 2 QB's as opposed to 3 Rb's or 3-4 WR's. This adds value to the QB position and makes the drafting options much more varied.

We went to 10 yards/point for rush/rec, 1 PPR and that devalued the QB. We went to 25 passing yards/point and 6 points for TDs, and that seems to jack the QBs right back up.I am still working on a way to get a more even split of positions in the top 30, possibly going to 35 passing yards/point or 5 points passing TD? PM me and I can send you my spreadsheet when I am done in the next couple of weeks. Working on it for a dynasty league.

You are going to struggle to find your desired outcome. The reason for this is, you cannot merely increase the points that all quarterbacks score. While it will increase a QBs output, it will not increase (or minimally increase) the scoring of a QB relative to another QB. What you need to attempt is to have the difference in points scored between the #1 and #13 QB equal the difference between the #1 and #25 RB and the #1 and #37 WR, assuming traditional starting requirements.

How you do this is difficult and I don't think that anyone has come up with a system that keeps the difference between QB 1 and 13 the same as the difference between the other positions. The Super flex idea is a good one...an idea that I have seen work in leagues such as yours is a QB/TE flex. That way if you are one of the teams that does not have a viable third QB, you are able to start a TE for some value. If TE is not a required starting spot, it may be better to roll with one of the top couple TE's.

However, just because you are going to 12 teams does not mean that you have to eliminate the 2QB spot. I have been in a 12 team 2QB league for ten years. There are statistics that show more QB's start a bye week than you would think and if an owner just puts in a little bit of time, it is relatively easy to find a starter for bye weeks. I think your league is better if you keep the 2QB angle.

If you are deadset on going to 1, here are my ideas:

QB's receive a cumulative +2 bonus for every TD after the first in a game (first=4, second=6, third=8, etc)

Large rewards for QB performance 6 points for 70% completions (min 10 att), 6 points for 300 yards, 10 points for 400 yards (non-cumulative), 3 points for each yard that YPA is over 5.

Just kept QB scoring similar to positional scoring, or keeping the variance between the QB position as compared to RB and WR?

I'm going to whine about fantasy football scoring a sec. I think anything higher than 1 pt for 20 yards rush/rec is too much. Anything more that 1 point per 50 yards passing is too much. I guess I prefer TD heavy leagues. TD=6 points, 100 yards=5 points seems about right to me. I play in a league that has 1 point for 10 yards and it is too much IMO. I have Matt Forte who got me 11 or 12 points. The Bears only scored 3 points, how can any one player be greater than the whole team? Thigpen got me around 23 or 24 points while the Cheifs only scored 20. I don't like that.Sorry, end of whining. My favorite league is the one with the 1 pt per 20 yds rush/rec and 1 per 50 yards passing.

Make passing TDs worth 6 points. The only problem with this is that the top 4-5 QBs will be worth even more than the top tier RBs.

Thanks,

It's really tough. The league overwhelmingly voted to change to 1QB as it the 2QBs were just getting out of hand. I don't think they will go for a QB/TE flex right now so I might just propose all TDs are 6 pts.
