Switching teams? (1 Viewer)

This might seem like an odd question, so bear with me. I play in a dynasty league that has 4 divisions (run by separate commishes, kinda like a zealot syndicate, but smaller). I was approached by another division to take over a team. I am wondering if there are any "etiquette" issues in moving from one division to another. The reason I joined this type of league was because I wanted to play in a really active league that was year round. My division had NO trades last year, 2 owners dropped out, one owner barely set up his line up. Last year was the first year so I was patient. This spring I've offered 2 trades and didn't recieve any response at all. (and one offer was to my commish). Besides myself and one other owner, no one has even checked into the site in months, new 08 site isn't set up, and we've received no info about our upcoming rookie draft. I even went so far as to email the commish and offer help setting up the 08 site, sending out emails regarding the draft etc, still with no response.

The other division is very active, and I know more people in that league, so I know at least a little bit of what to expect as far as activity goes.

I want to switch but I don't want to cause some big issue either. Any thoughts?

Easy call. Make the switch. You did your part to help and it still didn't affect anything, so join the other league.

I may not be following the situation correctly, but it sounds as though your specific devision is pretty weak, whereas the other divisions are stronger. I assume you all play towards the same championship, correct? If so, I do not see why you would want to leave the easier division (especially if it is a $$ league). Can you trade players across the different leagues?

It's not a money league. We cannot trade players across divisions and we do play towards the same championship. The reason I want to change is because my division doesn't seem to take it as seriously as the others.

Nothing wrong with changing teams in the same league. Just cant have 2 teams in the same league. I have changed teams before.

While I agree that there's nothing wrong with doing so in principle, a league needs to sit down as a group and take a look at the subject and how they will deal with it in their situation. There are some issues that should probably be nailed down. Things like:* Which existing team gets first choice on switching to it? Is it the first to speak up? If so what happens if not everyone is informed the team is up for grabs at the same time? * If Owner A takes over Team B, can Owner C then take over Team A, rippling on down through the league? * What happens if Owner A has traded future year draft picks on his original team, and presumably paid his league fees for those future years? Does he forfeit those league fees and the new owner of Team A doesn't have to pay them?I don't see any reason it shouldn't be possible to work it out, but I'd recommend your league think through the issues that may arise, and set up the rules for doing so, before actually allowing it.

I know I'm biased but I learned a long time ago that if I'm unhappy because I'm in a bad league due to the commish, or the other owners or whatever I need to leave and find a good league. I can't worry about how my leaving makes them feel, I have to do what's best for me and my team. Now, I'm not saying they're bad all year round and I know there are some good owners over there but the bottom line IMO is that you're unhappy over there and I think you'd be happier with us...minus the part where your team gets humiliated by me when we go H2H

Having another opportunity to beat you is one of the main reasons I've accepted the offer! I talked to Rob today and he's setting it up. I already sent an email to Smitty. Of course, I'm going to have to come up with a new team name since there is already a "chihuahua" team in the East... does she even own a chihuahua? Cuz I DO, and if she doesn't I should get dibs on the name. No biggie, I've already come up with a few (and had a good one suggested). Let the beatings begin...

So are there three of each player in the league or does one division have LT and he just can't be traded into another division?

There are 4 separate drafts. Someone owns LT in each individual division.

Why not become the commish of your division? If the commish is inactive, he probably will gladly step down if you offer. Once you are commish, make a rule about time allowed to reply to trade offers. I feel your pain; I posted the same trade offer to every team in my league, and am still waiting for half of them to respond. I guess some people just get into FF more than others.

Horrible idea if he wants to be happy.Good Posting by Greg R on making sure the picks traded issues and paid are nailed down.

Oh, and run to the other league.

I think in this thread you have already had more fun.

Even if it was a money league, if it is not fun, then you have a gambling problem and should seek help.

To me, this was a slippery slope which I was uncomfortable going down at 1st........but after talking to a few other commishes, they all agreed that if you are unhappy with your league's direction & lack of participation in a dynasty league -- you are free to leave if you wish to.

With that said, we'll welcome our new owner. Check your email. The league invite is waiting on you.

It has been done, I sent the goodbye email to Smitty, I talked to Rob to yesterday and set up my team this morning. So which one are you?
