If he puts up a few good games in the playoffs and wins it all. How could you not leave him in as the starter?
Because he just is not as good as Schaub or Brady, hence the discussion about how good he actually is. If Houston were to be able to land a 1st rounder like Pats did for Bledsoe then maybe we could see him being handed the keys. IOW I'd expect Schaub to win a camp battle easily.
Wow, you know how good he is already, someone should make you a GM. While it's obviously a premature discussion and I expect Schaub to be under center next season...if Yates wins the SB and doesn't do it with a 70 QBR thru the playoffs, it would be difficult to deny him the starting job, especially when Schaub could net a nice return in a trade. Any conceptions of Yates from his college days is meaningless now. He has absolutely not collapsed under pressure in the NFL. 2 starts, 2 game winning drives (for TD's!). Both drives without Andre Johnson. Way too early to say he's better than Schaub, but I think it's pretty safe to say he's a Top 32 QB. As a Texans fan, I'm just going to enjoy the ride for now. There will be plenty of time to speculate in the off-season when all the evidence is in.

I think people often forget how "Average" Brady was. Being a serious New England hater, I remember, especially living in Maine and dealing with all the complete idiots. Brady was never the best QB, he simply had a cast around him and did what he had to do to win the game. 200 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT type performances flooded those first years. I remember laughing at my friends for taking Brady in rounds 1 or 2 back in the day and watching them go 2-11 during the fantasy season...OK, so we aren't talking fantasy...got it, I am just saying Yates has as good a chance as any to be "The Next Brady." Do I think it will happen?? Probably not, but...just saying
Not saying that he was worth a 1st or 2nd round pick, but Brady led the NFL in TD passes in 2002, his first full season as a starter. Seems to contradict what you think you remember.
I watch the doc on Brady and it gave a lot good background info. When Brady became the starter the entire NE front office thought their season was over.I dont know whay the real numbers were but he was thought of as their starter and future QB.
With all due respect, we'll have to agree to disagree here. I've read and watched practically everything I've been able to get my hands on regarding the Patriots during the Parcells/Carroll/Belichick years, and this is simply not true. Belichick had been itching to give Brady a shot, and the Bledsoe injury gave him the perfect opportunity. In hindsight, this is even easier to believe today than it was in the early 00's. Belichick has always had a strong preference for the hard working players who will willingly submit to his will (like Brady) over the superstar name players who don't put the work in (like Bledsoe). There is a long, long list of examples to back this up.
I corrected myself in the very next post and it was in reference to Brady. I just watch the ESPN Special on Brady a week ago. I didn't document it, ESPN did. I've yet to hear anyone from the NE office dispute what ESPN aired. He was the 199th pick in the draft.
Not really sure how it's not true.....getting way off topic here. Let's stay on the topic.

No thats why I said hence the discussion. I'm doubtful about his future as a franchise guy. A rosterable starting caliber guy though? Sure. FWIW I was high on Yates relative to his dynasty stock coming into this year. Just not at Schaub's level IMO.
