Taking a QB (1 Viewer)

I have always been one who waited on QB as long as possible unless amazing value presented itself. However, in looking at the class of QBs this year, I feel like waiting until the 7th-9th round to take a QB this year could be a mistake. It just doesnt seem as deep as in past years. After the 1st 5-7 QBs, I think there could be a significant drop off. Most of the guys after that point have BIG question marks (Brooks, Favre, Bulger, Green, CPep, Vick). Any thoughts?

I disagree, I feel that this is a deep year for QB's. After Manning is gone I see no reason to consider a QB until 10-12 are off the board.

I'm likely not looking at one until round 9-10 unless significant value presents itself

I think this is the perfect year to wait and draft a QB if Peyton doesn't fall into your lap. In my eyes there is less than 10% difference between the #5 and #15 QB, so why not wait a few rounds and stock up on RBs and WRs? And as far as question marks, I think Peyton is the only one you can really say has no question marks.

How can you view this as a group of QB's without depth? You can get everyone from Warner (8.01.42) to Johnson (14.04.25) after filling out starters and back-ups at RB and WR. I love the value for virtually everyone from Green through Johnson.

I am actually drafting my QB later this year than in prior years. I am targetting guys like Delhomme, Warner, Rivers, Brooks, Favre, Plummer who can be taken after the first 10 or so QB's are off the board, and platooned throughout the season. One of these guys will end up exceeding his ADP this year so I think there is great value at taking QB in the later rounds this season.

Draft QB late this year. The projections for the difference between the #2 and #15 QBs is less than 40 fantasy points, but they have an ADP of over 60 picks between them! Translation- other positions fall off way faster, get your QB late.

I see what you guys are saying. I guess it is just more of a personal feeling. I would not feel too comfortable going into this season with guys like Delhomme, Favre, Brooks, Plummer, Vick or Green as my starter. These ar the guys that fall right after the top 7 per fbg projections.

Now if you are saying that you are a proponent of the QBBC approach, that is a different story. I dont think I would mind waiting if I was going to roster CPep and Warner for example. My only problem is that I have always seemed to play the wrong guy in these types of situations. There is something to be said for drafting a sure fire every week starter.

Most of the guys after that point have BIG question marks (Brooks, Favre, Bulger, Green, CPep, Vick).  Any thoughts?
Everyone after Manning, every year, has question marks.
I dont see a lot of question marks with Hasslebeck or Eli.
Eli:1. Finished the season badly last year.

2. Turnover ratio is not something you like to see.

3. Had an easy schedule at the beginning of last year (where he put up his stats).

4. Has an insanely tough schedule this year.

Matt:

1. Loss of Steve Hutchinson hurts.

2. ADP is too high (never finished at the level he's being drafted).

3. Coming off a SB loss (which is a death knell in recent years).

4. His best receiver is injury prone.

Matt's a MUCH better bet than Eli, but I hate where he's being drafted this year.

I fully expected to be grabbing QBs very late this year, but I had Manning fall into my lap in one league (2nd round of a keep-3 league), and I had Hasselback fall in another league (6.07, 5th QB off the board), so I wound up scooping up both. With that said, I would have absolutely no problem starting Plummer, Brooks, Green, or Vick every week, even without a solid backup behind them. I feel like all 4 guys will finish the season in the top10, or maybe top12 at worst.

You don't have to settle on ONE guy as a starter, though. Pick late and you could grab Plummer, Brooks, and/or Bledsoe and play the matchups every week. Brooks for his nice early schedule, then drop or trade him, perhaps, and alternate Plummer and Bledsoe the rest of the way, for example. Or pick up a hot arm after a few weeks--how many fantasy championships were won by Billy Volek 2 years ago? P. Manning, Palmer, Hasselbeck, and McNabb are the only QBs I'd consider "studs"--guys I wouldn't bench no matter the matchup. Other than them, even Bulger, Brady, and Eli I'd consider a foundation of a QBBC. And past those 7, everyone else is pretty equal as part of a QBBC--look for 5 or 6 games tops you want him for and that's it.
