Picked him up again this morning when pierce was doubtful. Dropped Crowell for him.

I agree he could be the starter. There's still time for him to do more damage this game too.

Damn had I known Pierce would be out I would have not grabbed Damian Williams and gone with Zo as a stash. No chance I get the guy on waivers with the #2 priority.

Started Taliaferro in a deep league this week, unfortunately cut him for Damian Williams in another. Wish I had that one back.

I knew one of these two would be the RB pickup of the year. I'm not calling LT the pickup of the year yet, but he very well could be.

Browns have been weak against the run this year. Taliaferro could have been a reasonable part of the game plan this week. No doubt be he'll a top waiver player in week 4. If you miss him (or already missed him), I'd expect him to fall back to earth next week against CAR. Schedule looks good after that, and Pierce might be back.

My take is this: The Ravens D is what itn't used to be, but this team could compete for the AFC North with a respectable running game. I think they'll push it and they could see LT as their magic bullet. If you miss(ed) him then try to trade for him. Use the pending matchup + Pierce return to diminish his value if you can. The schedule after CAR looks pretty good to me. Pierce and Forsett are known commodities and unlikely to really jump off the screen at this point. LT is the make or break shot at a cheap RB2 for the middle part of the season. In H2H leagues, that could be the difference between squeaking into the playoffs and missing them.

It's hard to imagine him winning a championship for you, but this could be an important mid-season play. If he outperforms expectations there could be dynasty implications as well, though I'd still expect them to take a RB early in the first few rounds of the 2015 draft.

Does Talliaferro start this weekend? Is he the next greatest out of nowhere FF pickup for 2014?
if pierce is active i don't think either is a start this weekend, who knows what will happen. He did look far better than Pierce has looked in the past couple years but might be better to wait to see how this situation unfolds.

This first bye week is forcing my hand and I'm queued up to add Talliaferro overnight; he'll be in my lineup if I get him. I voted Crowell, and added him two weeks ago, so both these guys are along for the ride on my squad.

Would not have guessed that at all when the season started.

Edit: I double-checked my vote and realized I voted the third option: neither would become a fantasy starter this season. Double shrug...

I decided to use my #1 ww of Talliaferro. If they Liked the other 2 guys that much they wouldn't have chosen a #4 rb in the 4th round. I need to stabilize my RBs and I'm not sure there's going to be a better opportunity on the ww this year.

Week 2: Pierce has 96yds on 22 carries and 1 rec for 7yds against the Steelers D

Week 3: Taliaferro has 91yds on 18 carries and 0 receptions against the Browns D

They seem almost like interchangeable pieces. Almost. If Pierce is healthy I think he resumes lead back role since he does offer a pass catching option. He caught 20 passes last year with Rice in the lead role. I'm not sure about blocking or pass protection but my guess is that the veteran has the edge there as well.

I added Talliaferro i whiffed on Crowell backs couple of weeks ago. I own Pierce so it made sense to burn my #2 waiver priority. I just wish I didn't have to as I've been eyeballing him since week 1. I wasted a roster spot on Damian Williams last week. Oh well, at least I got him now.

Taliaferro might be the new starter.
He looks very good to me. Has good vision, one cut and go. Great fit for Kubiak.
What happens when Pierce gets back though? Looking at a 3-headed RBBC?
Doesn't Kubiak have a history of using a feature back?
Fwiw Taliaferro played in the Dome in PS Game 4. The Ravens RBs ran it 42 times, Taliaferro got 25, Toussaint got 17. PS Game 3 vs the Redskins Talia had 11 carries, Forsett had 7, Pierce had 4. If the PS Game 3 was the dress rehearsal, maybe this is where they have been planning to go. And maybe PS Game 4 they wanted to see how much Talia could handle. Admittedly rank speculation from the RB desperate.

it seems like they have been trying to desperately move on from pierce starting from the preseason and the 1st 2 games. All that coach talk about how forsett was the #2 behind ray and then they took back what they said after he was suspended

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi is calling for the Browns to "feed the Crow [isaiah Crowell" and "shift into Full Beast Mode."
Bye week to-do list: As he approached his first bye week as coach of the Browns, Mike Pettine said, “We’re going to take the bye week to get some things done.”

These are the things I would get done. ...

4. Commit to the running game more

The Browns have called 90 runs and 101 pass plays. That’s a healthy run-pass ratio of 47 percent/53 percent -- exceptional balance by coordinator Kyle Shanahan. In Cincinnati, coordinator Hue Jackson has the undefeated Bengals at a 53/47 run-pass ratio. In Baltimore, Gary Kubiak, Shanahan’s mentor, has the Ravens at 42/58, but that’s skewed by an unforgiveable 20/65 imbalance in their first game. (Kubiak has gone 69/57 since that Game 1 debacle.)

I think Shanahan, like the majority of NFL offensive coordinators, sometimes loses sight of the running game in critical parts of the game. It’s evident after three games that the running game is the foundation of Shanahan’s offense, as advertised. Considering the Browns’ options in the passing game, I would up that 47/53 run-pass ration to more like 55/45. I would feed the Crow (Isaiah Crowell) and shift into Full Beast Mode, Cleveland version. They're going to need it in December.
I have dreams of owning lead backs in Shanny Jr. and Kubiak offenses dancing in my head.

waiting until Pierce is benched and Talliaferro has consecutive solid weeks is 2-3 weeks too late to get him at a great value IMO

Might not pan out - its worth the chance.

Crowell has to beat out a solid T.Williams and a returning Tate .... though he has value no doubt

Everyone picked up Taliaferro this week anyhow, if not prior to this week, so your point is irrelevant.

"Sigmund Bloom ‏@SigmundBloom 10m

And now we are seeing some signs that #browns recognize what they have in him. May not take injuries for Crowell to climb that mountain.

Sigmund Bloom ‏@SigmundBloom 1m

@OrdioMongo CLE looks like they may have the best running game in the league and crowell's talent can create its own opportunity

Sigmund Bloom ‏@SigmundBloom 6m

with no remorse RT @Kripple1301 drop Gerhart for Crowell?

Sigmund Bloom ‏@SigmundBloom 9m

crowell over tate, yes RT @DcmRulz even over Ben Tate? (In a league where someone just cut him)

Sigmund Bloom ‏@SigmundBloom 12m

I don't know if events needed for Crowell to get lead role will unfold, but if they do, season-changer. FF RB1.

Sigmund Bloom ‏@SigmundBloom 13m

If you're asking me Crowell or _____ on the WW this week, 99% answer is crowell. donald brown over him, that's about it."

I do not regret blowing 75% dynasty FAAB on this guy. He was bursting through the line with AP-like ferocity on Sunday. Where do you guys think he'd be drafted in dynasty today?

Ugh. Have Pierce, Taliaferro, and Crowell but can't keep all three. Decisions, decisions. Pretty clear concensus in here that Crowell is preferred over Taliaferro, and I'm on board with that. But having Pierce complicates things. Whichever Raven starts will be in my lineup, so might have to cut Crowell loose. That hurts.

So, week 4 forward, will they hand the reins to Taliaferro or will Pierce keep the "lead back" role? CBS says

"The Ravens have seemed to be looking for reasons to push Bernard Pierce down the depth chart this season, but it is not clear if Taliaferro's performance in Week 3 will be enough to do that for good. "

What do you say?

How are you able to have success on the ground no matter whose carrying the football? What is it with your system that allows that with these backs? (Garrett Downing) “It starts up front. We’re getting confidence up front, and our guys have played real well. They haven’t had anyone miss any time other than what we’re fixing to go through right now with Eugene [Monroe] being out. We’ve had some continuity up front, which has just helped us run the ball, period. But all those backs have done a good job. Bernard [Pierce] misses last week, and you get a young kid [to] step in on the road and do what Lorenzo [Taliaferro] did. That’s exciting, but that’s what we’re going to be offensively all year. Everybody is going to contribute. All our receivers are playing [and] all our backs are playing. Now we have a couple of guys that [have] to step up because of injuries. How we adjust to those things [and] how our depth works out [will] probably have a lot to do with our success.”

Gary, it looks like RB Bernard Pierce is getting better. How do you view the running back situation? Do you view it as a committee-type situation and go with the hot hand? Is Bernard [Pierce] still the starter? (Jeff Zrebiec) “We’re watching him work this week. He worked well today. We have another day this week, but we just keep going. They’re all going to play, so that’s probably an easy way for me to answer that right now. But they’re all going to contribute [and] they’re all going to play. Justin [Forsett] and Lorenzo [Taliaferro] do play some special teams, too, so we’re going to keep a fresh guy on the field. [That] is what we’re going to do. If we feel like one guy has the hot hand, so to speak, then obviously he’s going to go back out, but I want them all to prepare as if they’re starting.”

As a former head coach, does that make a team tougher to prepare for when you’re not sure who’s going to get the ball when you have three guys of different size? (Jeff Zrebiec) “Yes, and they’re all a little different – you’re right. Lorenzo [Taliaferro] and Bernard [Pierce] are a little bit the same as far as size and how they do things. Lorenzo and Justin [Forsett] are three-down players that play in pass protection situations, nickel situations and those types of things. That’s where Bernard needs to keep coming as a player, in my opinion, but he’s working at it and doing that. We’re going to do what we do, but hopefully we’re doing what each back does best when they’re in there.”
This is a from the transcript of the media portion yesterday. In summary, Kubiak is going to ride the hot hand and he believes Taliaferro and Forsett to be three down backs but he doesn't believe that Pierce is capable at the moment.

For me when it comes to decisions like that, I just drop the least talented guy, and that would be Pierce. Crowell and Taliaferro (if he plays as well as he did) are going to continue to get snaps as both teams are very competitive right now to make it to the playoffs. Don't get me wrong, Pierce will probably vulture a TD or two at the goal-line and will have bigger games every now and then, but both Pettine and Harbaugh had very good things to say about their respective 'back. Or, the Ravens backfield will be a 3-headed RBBC for the rest of the year, but I'd still rather have Taliaferro.

Sorry to maybe post an AC forum ? but curious to see what type of RBs you are dropping here for these 2?

Think a lot of us probably have some under performers this year.

All indications are that Tate will be the starter and lead back when he gets back. RB Coach Wilbert Montgomery specifically said he expects Tate to be the starter. Browns reporters Toni Grossi of ESPN Cleveland and Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer have both expressed that they expect Tate to be the lead back. Among reasons mentioned are the staff valuing having a vet out there and Tate being the best back in the passing game.

eta - I guess this has pretty well been covered in the Crowell thread.

Bernard pierce not even recording a carry yet. It's been all taliaferro and forsett. Lozo just scored his second td of the year too.

Low ypc but he is playing the panthers.

Waivers just processed this morning. 12 team dynasty 2014 startup

Start season with $100 FAAB. I went very heavy WR in dynasty startup and was left with Hyde, SJax and Rice as my main backs. Needless to say I was fairly certain after the knockout vid leak and the explosion of 3 ATL RBs not named SJax that I would be blowing all my bucks on backs this week and hoping I drafted well enough to stay afloat.

I won Crowell with a $75 bid. The only other bid was for $4 (wtf.) and it was by the guy who dropped him for a defense a few days ago. Oh well, better safe than sorry. He passed the eye test with flying colors. Now can he pick up pass pro and take the reins?

I also won Forsett with a $25 bid and got Taliaferro for free. All in all I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, but I have to stay a step ahead of waivers now and 15 weeks is a long time.
You seem to have misplaced your "wtf."
No, I think I got it right. I have a 21 year old dynasty stud for some waiver dollars.
