Tampa Bay Rays 2010 thread (1 Viewer)

The upside of Lee and Archer are what make this a dangerous trade for the Cubs. However, there is enough risk for me to think the Cubs may never regret this trade.
Fair points except this last one. Depth is everything - look at how it killed the Red Sox to have no help in the upper minors to fix their injury issues. Fuld, Chirinos, Guyer, and Archer could all see 2011 playing time and that's now depth the Cubs are severely lacking with this deal outside of subbing Perez for Fuld.

As far as 2011, I don't see an issue for the Cubs. The pitching is deep in AAAA/MLB talent both in the rotation and bullpen. Guyer is behind Jackson and they have four outfield starters currently. Chirinos was behind Castillo who will start at AAA. Lee is a couple years away. The Cubs traded from areas with depth in the organization. It would have to be a rash of injuries to reach into where the players they traded would be used. Depth in 2 years could be compromised certainly. But 2011 won't be problematic other than of course the lack of production by the veterans in place.

So what does the Ramirez and Damon signings mean for future hall of famer Matt Joyce?

Seems like he might be in Durham this year, ouch.

I like the Ramirez signing, nothing to lose there. Signing both is weird though, Damon is going to have to play in the OF and aren't they planning on having Jennings in LF?

Zobrist will be everywhere, like he always is. Probably be the LH second baseman and the RH right fielder.

I love the Manny signing........for 2 million. Zero risk.

Agreed on Manny

No downside there

He's on the downslope, but if anything is going to motivate him, it's being in the same division as the Sox and Yanks

No brainer for 2 million

At the worst, Manny can still take walks. An Upton-Damon-Longoria-Manny top of the order will not be easy to navigate.

Rays will be a tough out, once again. God I love Friedman.

:lmao: I think the Damon signing was questionable (he might have to get it to the cutoff man by rolling the baseball like a bowling ball. Would probably get there faster than his normal throw), but Manny at 2 mil is a good signing. Even the Damon signing isn't horrible because it was a 1 year deal.

Jennings will likely be in AAA to start. Joyce is the likely starting RF. Ouch.
Joyce just needs a platoon partner. If he plays every day v. righties he is going to hit 20-25 homers.
I know he will. Dr. D hates the guy though. There's no chance that they start Jennings' arb clock with these other guys on the roster. Joyce and Zobrist can platoon RF and then Zobrist/Rodriguez will platoon 2B.

Jaso - C

Damon - LF

Longoria - 3B

Ramirez - DH

Joyce - RF

Johnson - 1B

Zobrist - 2B

Upton - CF

Brignac - SS

Price

Shields

Niemann

Davis

Hellickson

And Friedman said the other day that they are pursuing trade options for the pen.

Looks like a damn good team to me.

I'll probably regret posting this, but Manny's done.

Watching him every day over the last month or so of last season can't lead me to believe anything else.

Even if his power is sapped, Manny put up a .420 OBP last September. He won't be Manny of 04, but I bet he's plenty good still.

I think it's funny that the Angels sent two good players to Toronto, only to get back 86 million dollars of Vernon Wells, when they could have signed either Manny or Damon, or both, instead.

Great deals for TB.

Doesn't this smell a little bit like when TB signed Wade Boggs, Greg Vaughn and Vinny Castilla.
The Hit Show! Big difference is these signings are the sides not the meat.
Not sure how you can think that.Outside of Longoria, there is no other meat, at least offensively, until these guys showed up.

Zobrist and Jaso are quality hitters. Brignac, Joyce and Rodriguez are high upside guys. There's plenty of young talent. The other difference between this and the hit show is that the hit show guys were crippling contracts. These two are on one year deals. Even for the Rays, they could waive Manny in May and not blink. Major difference.

 I was also considering the pitching staff the meat...
