Fair points except this last one. Depth is everything - look at how it killed the Red Sox to have no help in the upper minors to fix their injury issues. Fuld, Chirinos, Guyer, and Archer could all see 2011 playing time and that's now depth the Cubs are severely lacking with this deal outside of subbing Perez for Fuld.The upside of Lee and Archer are what make this a dangerous trade for the Cubs. However, there is enough risk for me to think the Cubs may never regret this trade.
I'm hearing that they still might be interested in Vlad or Manny as well. Getting Damon and one of those two would be very nice.
I think the Damon signing was questionable (he might have to get it to the cutoff man by rolling the baseball like a bowling ball. Would probably get there faster than his normal throw), but Manny at 2 mil is a good signing. Even the Damon signing isn't horrible because it was a 1 year deal.
