Defensive tackle Tank Tyler tells our pal Nick Wright of 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City that he has been shipped to Carolina.

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that the Chiefs will receive a 2010 fifth-round pick for Tyler.

Tyler was acquired by the Chiefs via the third round of the 2007 draft. He doesn't fit into a 3-4 defense as well as he meshes with the Panthers' 4-3. Carolina has had needs all year at the position, dating back to Ma'ake Kemoeatu's season-ending Achilles' tendon injury from training camp.
This looks like it could be just what the doctor ordered for a struggling Jon Beason.... a space eating, run stuffing DT that will command some O-linemen. Don't know how fast they want to get him into the fold, but as a Beason owner, I hope its this week. Also saw this tidbit.. Link

Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis missed Thursday's practice with a hamstring injury. Coach John Fox wouldn't say how serious the injury is, or when Davis hurt it.

Also, I've still never heard exactly what happened to Beason last week.

The 1 solo & 2 assts game last week is the single worst stat line Beason has put up as a starter in his entire career (except wk 17 last year when they rested for the playoffs). But I haven't seen a single comment by anyone who watched the game as to what happened to him. I asked twice in the in-game thread that day if he was still out there in the second half and no one responded. Then there was a thread started on Monday by another poster asking what happened (and I chipped in my interest as well) and no one gave any definitive answer. Even the Eyes of the Guru article simply talked D-line and didn't even mention the LB's.

So I'll ask a 3rd time. What the heck happened to Jon Beason last week? I think an LB1's worst game in 3 years warrants a little more discussion.

Being a Panthers fan, I watched the entire game. A lot of the time, from what I could see, offensive linemen were getting to the second level on running plays and blocking Beason, but that only left Thomas Davis free to make tackles. Beason was active as always and moving to the ball; things just didn't fall his way. The Bucs elected to run a lot of pass plays in this game after they had some success throwing the ball early on, but Josh Johnson also ran for first downs. Beason, on some of these plays (most of which were 3rd and long), was playing the Tampa 2 MLB "down the pipe" position and was quite frankly not anywhere near to the QB.I put this one down to a bad week, nothing more. I think the addition of Tyler is another good one by the team. We also added Hollis Thomas as a space eater. Clearly the front office recognises the talent we possess at LB and wants to get those big bodies up front so the LBs can be free to roam and play downhill.

Thank you so much. I just really wanted to make sure he was on the field and didn't look slowed by injury or anything.I'm excited about the addition of Tyler and think the Panthers won't be content to let O-linemen get on Beason regularly. Davis making the tackle on a run instead of Beason means extra yards in a lot of cases.

There's nothing wrong with that. :coffee:
