Tanner - pls. post details of your diet here (1 Viewer)

Anyone here want to start a group atkins tomorrow? I think Homer was considering it. I can start a thread. I figure there may be some help with support and numbers here. I understand per Bender the first couple weeks are tough (first three days especially). Who is game?

Otis, I ran 3.5 miles yesterday and have signed up for a Cinco De Mayo (sp?) half marathon. Hoping that will help with the exercise portion of this endeavor.

But I absolutely destroyed some beer, wine and food this weekend. Hoping to start fresh tomorrow. :porked: :porked: :porked:

Oats

you like to gamble.

Create a weight loss contest (pre and post pics of your scale needed)

Put up $500 (or whatever) dollars. If you lose 15% (or 10%?) of your weight by whatever date you keep your 500

If you don't, you pay 500 to the person with the highest percentage of weight loss.

Can invite as many people as possible - I'd jump in, even though I'm already down 30 ell bees this year, I have a ways to go.

Nothing would motivate you more than to not pay me 500 bucks and if you hit your 15% reserve weight, you keep your dollars.

Of course everything other than the scale pics is on your honor which is tough to do with the interwebs but I know you're an honest guy.
The motivational aspect is a great idea but keeping it off is the real challenge.

I've done Atkins a few times and can say that you will lose weight and you, after a couple days adjustment, won't even be hungry. You will find you eat more out of habit than hunger. Also, an increase in food label awareness can be a blessing.

That being said, I wouldn't do a strict Atkins again. I think the weight loss can be too rapid and it a diet most will not sustain. With the focus on avoiding carbs, I've seen people eat excessive bacon, ham, sausage (which can lead to other issues).

I know this will sound like a broken record but a life style change is needed. Drink enough water, get a good nights sleep, exercise (ideally a mix of aerobic and resistance training but even walking will do) and improve your diet. Cut out the crap breads, highly processed foods (was it made in a factory?), high carb foods, high fructose corn syrups and target quality, natural foods like fish, chicken, lean meat, fruit, vegetables, nuts, beans, etc.

In the end, this approach is similar to Atkins in that you will take in less carbs. But there are some foods with good nutritional value that Atkins might avoid due to carb content as well as some nutritionally crappy foods they might endorse.

Did it for the month between Thanksgiving and Xmas and dropped a quick ten, but traveling home for Xmas knocked me off the wagon. Started again on monday and already feel better. Been having nasty heartburn for the last six months or so, and that's already gone bye bye.

I'm right around 260 :porked: and want to get back to my standard 220-225. Assuming I stick with this, I should hit that target in early summer. Sooner if I actually exercise.

So yeah, early summer. :)
