Tashard Choice (1 Viewer)

Can a Cowboys homer translate what this means?

From Rotoworld:

"Although he's not sure of his exact role, Tashard Choice expects to be a part of the Cowboys' backfield rotation Sunday for the first time since September.

Choice said he was informed that his workload will increase starting this week. Coach Wade Phillips offered only that he told Choice to "be ready." Marion Barber told reporters that he will accept a limited role if that's what the coaches decide. with Felix Jones nursing a sprained ankle, Choice is a must-add in 12-team leagues this week."

Felix returned to a full practice today so I was going to drop him. Guess I'll give this until Sunday to play out.

Reading between the lines Choice is taking over Barbers third down role, except perhaps in short yardage where Barber has excelled.

What do they tell him most weeks?

Its a tough call to bank on for two reasons: 1) The Cowboys aren't committed to the run, and 2) its a SNF game, so you're taking a big chance at getting goose egged (or less than 5 points).

I've always liked Choice, and hope he does well this week. I just think its a big risk - but if you need to take one, maybe its worth it.

Wait so that means Choice is now the goaline back?? That was Barber's role.

Anyone that would take a chance with a player on a dumpsterfire of a football team go right ahead. Nothing to see here.

No. Barber was the third down and short yardage/goal line RB. I expect Barber to remain the short yardage/goal line RB. And for Choice to become the third down RB.

I think you might be ignoring a few too many things on Felix here bud.Felix was reported as throwing up on the sidelines due to exhaustion when he was first given the feature roleHe hasn't cracked 4ypc in past three weeksHe's a sure bet to be on the roster next yearThese combined with the Cowboys record says he actually starts to see some carries, maybe in a split with Jones.Course who the hell knows this year. There are only a handful of teams that consistently start the same back, and only a few of those produce fantasy starters. Crap year for RB all around.

This made me laugh. I'll happily take Kitna, Austin, Bryant, or Witten...but no thank you to the running backs.

I was basing my comment on the article, which said Choice was going to see an increased role, and Barber was willing to accept a diminished role. :blackdot:

We all know Choice has talent. If youve got roster space, he is worth a pick up. If he has a good game he will have fantasy trade value. Isnt that what FF is all about???

Still think that T-Cho is the most complete RB on the Cowboys. Given the chance he could win the job.

how do we know what "be ready" really means? maybe he meant be ready to return kicks, since their main KR is out.

I need a RB desperately in one league, but I would have to drop someone relatively valuable to pick up Choice. with such vague information, it's hard to know the possible impact.

What is the contract situation like for the three headed monster down there? When will Choice be free of that mess?

I have the same question. Is there any chance Choice would be starting somewhere else next season?
I can't see them keeping Barber around for what they're paying him. I think it's likely they cut him this offseason and use a mix of Jones/Choice at RB.
Barber is finished (too bad too, that dude was a beast.) Will the boys be rolling with Jones and Choice next year? Who do you guys value more from here on out. Ronnie Brown or T Choice?

Feel like I should apologize for not posting the article from earlier in the week-it was well done and I just assumed FBGs were all over it.

It goes something like this- The Boys were stomped and Wade had no answers for the press and was embarassed. He watched all the tape from 2009 and 2010 and held another press after doing that. The Boys were supposedly going to get back to fundamentals this week and any primadonnas that didn't like working on fundamentals ...there's the door. Jones was supportive of this and IIRC vets were quoted as saying they thought it was necessary too. So I'm expecting a few bad apples to be exposed this week or next. Let's see who is playing less or not starting etc.

BTW little late but kudos to Wade on that.

Sure is tempting to give him a shot as a RB3 in a PPR league. I agree with the posters who said he is the Cowboys' most complete RB. In a game which could see the Cowboys in a lot of passing situations, possibly playing from behind and with a QB who primarily throws the ball on check downs and intermediate routes he could be very busy Sunday night if he really is going to play more.

His style at times is that he lacks any and runs more like Brandon Jacobs or Bam Morris or Stacey Mack etc. He is borderline useless without the line giving him a hole, but every back like that has always been if that happened.I don't think he's done by any stretch. It's not a spot teams want to be in being all happy that a RB can make something out of nothing with regularity.

I don't have it in front of me but I looked it up earlier and I am pretty sure Choice's contract is through the end of next season (he's not a FA after this year). I agree with the others that said it would be more likely that Barber is gone and this becomes a Felix/Choice backfield. I like Choice's talent to be "the" guy somewhere but I hope, if anything, that he gets a chance to go somewhere else. I get the feeling that if you own Choice in a dynasty, that's the best bet because if they let Barber go, they will certainly sign someone else to hold a roster space and (although I don't agree/understand it), there is SOMETHING that has kept Choice from getting a legit shot. SO, I would rather see him go somewhere where they bring him in to be the RB than watch another guy come in and they carve out all these 3-player roles again.

At least someone gets it. The line simply is not getting the job done. Barber and Jones are fending off guys in the backfield nearly every running play. That Jones is averaging over 4 YPC and Barber is converting a very high percentage of short yardage runs is a testimony to these RBs. I'd love to see them running behind a good OL - oh wait, we saw that last year, and they were good!

Rather than fight with switz about this (again) I am just going to resign myself and give Felix a pass on this season. While I, and many others, think he looks a step slower this season the Cowboys are such a mess that this year may simply be an anomaly.

I have said repeatedly that I think (think) Felix has the talent to succeed in the NFL. This was his first crack at the starting job and maybe under some new coaching leadership (a mortal lock) Felix will get a better crack at demonstrating what he can do.

But this year, whatever the reason, all Dallas RBs are teh suck. There might (should) be a high production game or two from them but predicting which game and which back is a very risky shell game.

If you have other options you should go with them.

From an article today:

Choice said coach Wade Phillips informed him Monday that he'll see action out of the backfield. Phillips, however, said his conversation with Choice stemmed from the fact Felix Jones has been bothered by an ankle injury.
Given that Jones listed as probable and is reportedly 100% today, it sounds like Choice won't be getting much work unless Jones tweaks the ankle again. Who knows?FYI this is just providing info. It's not meant as a pro-Jones, anti-Choice post, rather just info for those considering rolling with tChoice to use in their decision making process.

It means that choice, like barber and jones, will stand in the backfield and do little and watch the dallas offense fall apart

no real change

In your opinion is Choice a safe drop in redraft leagues with somewhat shallow benches? I need to drop for an IDP but I don't want to miss out on a second-half back that could be worth something down the line.

I don't know how deep of a league yours is, but I'm in a 12 team league where you can start two RBs and of course, one more at your flex, should you choose. Six man benches. He's never been rostered in my league, and I doubt that he ever will be unless he blows up this week or either Barber or Felix go down.

Dallas is such a cluster....k I'm glad I have rid myself of all their RBs. Oops, except for Barber in one league  How do you guys feel their running game will be in 2011?

You're the 2009 HyperActive 3 Dynasty Runner-Up.You tell US....
Nobody remembers who finished 2nd  I feel Dallas has some very good players on offense, but they have no direction and no OL. It all starts up front and in the front office. They are lacking in both. Plus, they've given up this year, that's plain to see.

He was crying because he realized he's not as good as Felix, even though the average Cowboys fan delusionally believes he is. Fresh legs, prevent defense, and 3 YPC. Nice.
