taxi squads (1 Viewer)

Im in a league witha 53 man roster...start 1 qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, 1 te, 1 k...4 dl, 3 lb, 3 db.

At the end of each season we keep 10 offensive and 12 defensive players (8 of these keepers must be different from those kept the year before--4 off. and 4 def.)

After you designate keepers in June you are free to add 7 players (by trading rostered players who aren't keepers) until 1 week before draft. At this point evevery roster is trimmed to the 22 keepers + up to 7 additional acquisitions for a max of 29 heading into the draft...

It seems I always draft the young DEs or LBs (C. Dunlap, E. Brown, R McClain, P. Angerer) who are up and coming but not good enough to keep over my other guys. Also, they don't command a very high trade value. I want to implement a taxi squad...maybe just for defensive players.

It seems like most leagues have 3 players on the taxi squad. They must be in their first two seasons and are only eligible if they have never been started in the league. Does this seems pretty accurate and how do you like it in your leagues if you have it? Appreciate the input...

we use a 5 man TS in 2 leagues (increased from 3 last year).

they must be rookies.

it is a salary cap league, so you can save contract years this way.

having 3 on TS is probably better for the league.

5 just makes the strong, even stronger.

I found that only the best owners utilize the TS as they should.

some don't even carry 5 and some never change during the season.

it is good for DL and LB that may not play full time their first year.

I have LBs Angerer and Sean Lee, and DL Lamarr Houston.

this gives you a free year to carry them.

it is also good for QBs like Colt McCoy and Skelton.

some WRs develop slow also and can be carried for a year.

Manningham is a good example which I have in both leagues.

good luck, it does add to the league imo.

Our league has 8 man taxi squads and must be in the league 3 years or less.

Or roster is only 30 and we start 17, so it is a struggle to manage the roster all year. Biggest issue is that during the season, players can only be taken off of the squad and no one can be put back on. Then anyone taken off is put on a one year contract and is then a restricted free agent in the next off season, which is done by auction. I held Mike Sims-Walker and Dustin Keller on my taxi squad for the entire season last year because I didn't want them subject to the RFA auction...and there were weeks when I really could have used them.
