TE Brenton Strange, Jax (1 Viewer)

I didn't see this guy's own thread, so I figured I'd create one. With TE being a landmine this year, I picked this guy up in a few places. Figured as good as Evan Engram is, is he "100 catch" good or is it the QB throws to the tight end a lot. Have plugged him in a few spots last week, and while the volume isn't quite there, desperate times and all.

Is this guy anything to really hold in dynasty right now? 2nd round draft capital and I think Engram is on a 1 year deal anyway, so maybe we could show something/enough this year and become the starter next year?

Engram is signed through next season.

Not as good of a receiver as Engram, but decent enough and a better blocker.

You never know what this front office sees in players, and its very hard to trust a GM who drafted Trayvon Walker instead of Aidan Hutchinson

Tough to predicted the future for an untested guy playing on a franchise that's on the verge of being blown up (again)

If we are talking FFPC he's an intriguing stash but also a very hard hold once Engram returns. Not sure it's worth burning a valuable roster all season but I think he's an ideal pickup the last few weeks of the season if he's still sitting around.

How viable holding or acquiring him is will depend on.....

Engram is signed through next season.
If they cut or trade Engram. Trading or cutting pre-June 1 saves $6.25M in cap space and this can go up to $15.75M in cap savings if they do this after June 1.

Why would they cut or trade him? Will be 31, aforementioned cap savings, invested capital in Strange who as doeseatplace pointed out is a superior blocking TE-and by a lot, and as we are seeing is viable in the receiving game. And.....

You never know what this front office sees in players,

The way things are looking odds of a total house cleaning have to be considered strong.

So even if Doug or Baalke put a high value on Engram not sure the potential next staff will as 31 year old highly paid TE's who need a lot of production schemed up and are poor blockers are not for everyone, not at $15M in cap savings.

Conclusion for me is hard hold all season but an ideal scenario would be a late season pickup on one of the last weeks waiver runs, and then a hold or drop in FFPC style leagues if by March 31st we know what they've chosen to do with Engram.

Completely reasonable approach for a franchise that recognizes its a** from its elbow, which the Jaguars have not been across several front offices

You could also look view Engram as a $15M insurance policy for their $275M quarterback investment. Over the last two weeks, we've seen who Trevor Lawrence is without Engram....IDK--Zach Wilson? Kenny Pickett? Case Keenum?

The only counter I would have to that is that's how Trevor looked in week one when he had Engram and in that week one game I came away concerned with Engram for this year because his usage was scaled back from last year across the board. Snaps, routes, targets.

Increasingly tempted to start this guy over mark andrews
No way to know, but I really liked Lawrence's response to their disappointing start. Stating that they've come through worse situations than this. I know to this point he's been a dud. Not to deflect from his share of it but he has the linear, long-striding Gabe Davis. He has rookie Brian Thomas & now 2nd year man Brenton Strange. Rapport-wise, experience, not exactly ideal. I can't imagine them going into Houston & beating that team. But accordingly, a good matchup for Lawrence but maybe avg for Strange. I dropped Likely for Strange, who I'm starting (McBride owner).

But to your situation, I have Andrews in one league as well. I drafted Bowers in a later round & I've started him the last two games. Whether that's the right move this week I have no idea, still believe Andrews is going to factor at some point. But with Davante Adams ruled out, I'm thinking Bowers has a fair chance at double-digit targets.

certainly tempting, but Andrews has a positive matchup against the Bills and Houston has been stingy vs. TE this year
While I don’t disagree, HOU hasn’t played against any TE’s this year either. IND, CHI, and MIN.

I’m starting Strange (most likely over Parkinson and Taysom). But If I had Andrews I would reluctantly be starting him over all of them.

"Houston has been stingy vs. TE this year."
I wonder about the extent of which the Texans placed a focus on the position vs IND, CHI & MIN? Do those teams otherwise feature the TE? The Texans rank poorly vs QB and that's vs Richardson, Williams & Darnold. Now, they haven't defended WR very well either, although not really a strength to this point for Jacksonville. The TE has been targeted 35 times vs the Chiefs, only 14 times vs the Texans. Sure wish I knew the answers.

Better choices, if available, could be Zach Ertz, Dalton Schultz or Elijah Higgins. Just read Ray's comment, given my options I like Strange, he's filled in & done well. But also, I like Lawrence today.

I wanna roll with this guy over Ferguson, but my fear is this game against the Raiders will be a low scoring game, bad offense, lots of running and clock killing and Strange won’t get a lot of targets.

Ferguson has been bad, but this game against Tampa should force Cooper Rush to have to pass it 40+ times to keep up with the Bucs and Ferguson will get a ton of targets.

I’m starting over Ferg.

Not sure why I am posting this in a Mac Jones thread, but since most of the discussion today has been about Brenton Strange . . .

Hayden Hurst 2-33-0
Mark Andrews 4-51-0
Tommy Tremble 3-29-0
Blake Whiteheart 3-13-1
Adam Trautman 1-19-0
Pat Freiermuth 2-16-0

Travis Kelce 10-90-1
Mike Gesicki 5-100-2
Jonnu Smith 6-101-2
Adam Trautman 1-3-0

I posted this in the Mac Jones thread the other fay.

Clearly a good matchup but matchups often don’t work as expected. I’m going more of his opportunity with Mac’s pop gun arm and really no other pass catchers beyond BTJ.

As of now starting over Hock, also starting Addison and A. Jones in the rain, don't know that I want 3 Vikings in my starting lineup. Don't like chasing points but this feels more like going with volume targets.

Also considering him over Ridley at flex in a TE premium league.

All TEP leagues

In over Pitts

In over Kinciad/Deebo

Last league has me trying to decide between Strange, Jennings, Flowers and Walker for two spots.

I can't start Ferg, he's been putrid. If he breaks out of his funk, he's doing it in my bench.

Dropped Schultz for Strange this week. Seeing Dalton actually do good hurts a bit but hoping for another big volume game.

Here's the real question...how many people starting Strange today even had him on their roster before Engram went on the IR after week 14? I know I didn't!

I feel both good and bad about Strange. On paper this looks like a great play, and I'm playing him in a couple of leagues, but my gut says the fantasy Gods are going to throw a curveball and he won't get anywhere near as many targets today. Nothing to base this on, just a bad gut feeling.

I hear ya...it just seems too easy doesn't it...those 12 targets last week are just so tough to ignore especially with the Jags playing the Raiders today.

Yeah, very much on the fence here. Picked him mostly to block my opponent (who was weak at TE) but I've been strongly considering playing him over kraft (especially since I also have jacobs, which kinda limits my packer upside).

I'm a big favorite and most of my opponents players play at 1. So I'll probably see how the early games play out and then decide

The last second pulls never work for me.

But I just put him in place of Ferguson.

I thought the Jags were down and that’s why they passed a lot. They didn’t. It looks like they just went pass heavy last week.

Strange also had 2 catches for 15 yards that were called back due to penalty.

So it could’ve been a 13 catch 88 yard day. LFG!!
