TE Darnell Washington, PIT (1 Viewer)

As far as real football goes this kid should not have fallen to the 3rd round.
Suffered from the same thing as Roschon. Playing behind a "generational" talent. It obviously means there are more question marks in the profile, but for both I also viewed it as positives as far as commitment/team player/work ethic intangibles are concerned. No crying about playing time or stat compiling. No transferring to try to get more of the spotlight. May never rise to the levels I hope, but they tend to stick around in the league longer, thus getting more opportunities, than a lot of the other "me" players.

I get Roschon more because he is a RB and that position has been devalued…as far as Washington goes he is a complete freak and the combo of his size and blocking ability made him a very safe pick…as long as he stays healthy I don’t see a scenario where he would not be worthy of a second round pick.

I believe there were health concerns... with his knee, specifically.

Whether or not this ever becomes an issue is another matter. But these types of downgrades happen every year. Sometimes with merit, sometimes without.

I don't think the impact will be seen in fantasy leagues, but I am hopeful he has some clutch/impactful catches and maybe earns a little more play time. He's got hands, a solid catch radius, and is a huge target for Pickett. It's all building blocks to 2025 when I'd hope they let Freiermuth walk in FA if they are comfortable in what Washington has shown to that point. Not that I'm saying it's likely to happen, but if he shows a lot this season, Steelers could move on from Freiermuth with a $400k dead cap hit against $2 mil in savings.

I had a buddy who went to Steelers camp last week and said Washington was looking pretty good out there. Not much on the internet about him this offseason outside of the usually hype for young players.

Arthur Smith was willing to use two TEs last season and I'm thinking Washington might be a deep dynasty TE with some upside this season.

He’s just an extra offensive lineman.

Okay, Arthur Smith got his hands on the TE2 in his offense that is known for his blocking. @Bri will let you know that Arthur loves his multi-positional players that create match-up problems for defenses.

Check this play out. Making the waves. Surprised nobody posted it here. We slippin', fellas.

2-31 this week. Who knows what plans lurk in the Heart of Art?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Who knows? Jonnu Smith was a usable starter last year. If you're desperate then Darnell is maybe worth an 👀 in your "to watch" list.

I really think Arthur is such a good match for that franchise.
The fans seemed to absolutely love that play.

It meshes really well with Tomlin too. I didn't see his reaction but no doubt he loved a big fella being rough with defenders and getting down field.

I like how the line blocks better and gets all fired up when one of their dawgs eats. It could be a FB carry or whatever. More coaches should do this. My Titans linemen have been listless since he left. It's just plain fun to watch. Maybe it's Madden related. The current announcers talk technique and ...well how about just linemen fired up smashing people? Give me a bam or wham noise. I enjoy watching that.

Wait til he lines Washington out wide and the announcers say it's a mistake. All the Hines Ward blocking fans will get out of their seats to see him pancake someone and free up Najee.

The fun Arthur wasn't in Atlanta last year. Idk if he pressed or what but gimme 2-3 plays a game that makes you know the coach loves the Oklahoma drill- that's fun

He did line him up out wide for a touchdown reception the other week. It's really the bulk of Washington's work. I just wonder what this looks like come Week 10 or 11. Maybe. It's just worth an antenna to be raised. That's all I'm saying. Not saying to add him now (unless it's dynasty) as he's always going to be more of a blocker. But he's interesting to watch.

I got on you a bit for Arthur in Atlanta. Seems to be much more suited for the Steelers organization, which means you'd better bring your hitting shoes if you want to beat them.

In fantasy, is not Darnell Washington simply a lesser version of Marcedes Lewis or Martellus Bennet? I am a Steelers Homer and watching Washington, I can't see him even getting his game stat line as a fantasy producing tight end to match those two comps for him.

That noted, I am happy he is a Steeler.

Even with that nice catch and leap he still looks lumbering to me.
