TE Darren Waller, MIA (3 Viewers)

I was also excited about Jalin Conyers who ended up on IR. I would have liked to have seen Miami bring in a veteran who could bridge the gap.

It makes you wonder both why they didn't pay Jonnu and why were his feet kicking his own *** to get out of Miami? That might be a really ominous question to consider if you're a Miami fan. The Jets are horrible, but will Miami implode and actually be worse than the worst team of the decade? And is New England really that improved? Anarchy99 doesn't seem to think so.

The AFC East is just a terrible division. I'm waiting for Waller's announcement. We just had Amari Cooper retire, why not make it two-fer on a news day?

I can see why they did not pay Jonnu or needed him to facilitate the trade but what really surprises me is how they did not get more aggressive for Fant. $2.7m cap number to be part time player in Cincy, surely would have cost little to no more to get him to come to South Beach.

Yeah, I can see that also. You don't want to be tying up money in Jonnu for any longer than the current year (and if you're a contender then maybe 2026). Good point about Fant, but he's really replacement-level, it seems. More than even Jonnu. But Fant you wouldn't have been stuck paying longer than a year so that would have made sense.

Good point about Fant, but he's really replacement-level,
My counter to that would be a lot of people thought Jonnu was replacement level or a hair above that before last year and I say that with respect to low contract he got as an UFA and secondly I'm not sure the Dolphins have a replacement level TE and it's starting to sound dubious Waller will be playing this week or who knows when or how often?

I wasn’t saying Jonnu was above that, but I can see why you thought I did. I agree with all of your points here.

I would like to continue my thematic string of posts, affectionately titled, “the Dolphins are just so f’n stupid”, part 1,372

Everyone, “man, Jonnu was a beast!”
Dolphins: let’s move him for a half eaten pretzel & sign someone older!”

Cmon

Counterpoint: Jonnu was inarguably one of their best, most consistent players last year. Age ain’t nothin but a number sometimes.

Certainly better than tying up a single dollar in Waller.

Yeah, but I'm really cautious about letting my fantasy interests color my dispassionate evaluations. He's worth what Pittsburgh is paying him. It's not just Arthur Smith liking him, although I'm sure that helps.

I thought it was a weird signing by PIT, too, but then PIT’s had a decidedly weird offseason so I guess it’s thematic at this point.

That said, from a RL perspective Jonnu was great in MIA as well.
