TE Harold Fannin Jr., CLE (1 Viewer)

I get that the fantasy points have been underwhelming, but I still see a TE that's going to give me a fighting chance on my zero TE re-draft team.

I didn't see much of the game, but I did see at least one catch called back on a defensive offsides. He also very nearly spun out of a tackle that likely would have resulted in a td.

I probably should have gone with Juwan Johnson in week 1 waivers, but as long as 4.5 points doesn't turn to 2 points, I have no issues sending him back out in week 3.

Harold Fannin caught 3-of-5 targets for 25 yards in the Browns’ Week 3 win against the Packers.

Fannin was quiet in this one, running a pass route on 26 of Joe Flacco’s 46 drop backs and going for large swaths of the game without a look from Flacco. He came into the game with 12 receptions over his first two NFL games, having established himself as part of the pass-first Cleveland offense. David Njoku had five catches on a team-leading seven targets for 40 yards against the Packers. Fannin’s usage makes me a borderline starter in 12-team formats. He’ll be a top-15 option in Week 4 against the Lions in what should be another high-volume affair for the Browns offense.

VERY encouraging route usage. Keeps narrowing the gap every week between him and Njoku.

PFF's Nathan Jahnke: NFL Week 3 Recap: Immediate fantasy football takeaways from Sunday's games

Harold Fannin Jr. pulls closer to David Njoku: While Njoku led the Browns in receiving yards, the gap in playing time between Fannin and Njoku was closer than in previous weeks.

Fannin was a top waiver-wire target in Week 1, as it’s rare for a rookie tight end to catch seven passes in their debut. His situation is unique, as he’s the Browns' No. 2 tight end, and it’s exceptionally rare for a team to have two fantasy-relevant tight ends. The Browns managed this over the first two weeks because they played a high rate of 12 personnel.

This week, the Browns were playing from behind. While they still used 12 personnel on 26 snaps, they used 11 personnel on 39 snaps. This meant both tight ends didn’t play as much as usual. However, Fannin played 32% of the 11 personnel snaps on early downs, up from 28% over the first two weeks combined. Similarly, on third downs, he split snaps with Njoku 50-50. Over the first two weeks, Fannin played 36% of the snaps in these situations.

While we’re not at a point where Fannin is ahead of Njoku on the depth chart, we are getting closer to a point where Fannin could run more routes than Njoku. Until then, both Njoku and Fannin are borderline fantasy starting tight ends.

Kyle Dorchak charted that "Fannin leads the Browns in yards per route and targets per route. He also leads the team in total yards after the catch and total missed tackles forced. Fannin is dynamite with the ball in his hands and gets open at will. His breakout game is coming."

Andrews was just dropped in one league and I just picked up Henry for 6%. I still have Fannin and love his potential but if Andrews is sitting there I think I have to at least consider adding Andrews/dropping Fannin. Am I totally overreacting to week 3? Likely yes.

Who would you start? Andrews or Henry? If it's Henry, maybe just stick with Fannin on the bench. They need to move Njoku or a QB change before something shakes out there. The offense looks so generic with Flacco. Spread around to everyone for 170 yards a game isn't going to do much.

Andrews still has games like this but it's usually matchup specific.

Harold Fannin caught 2-of-6 targets for 24 yards in the Browns’ Week 4 loss to the Lions.

Fannin was involved in a myriad of ways once again. He moved around the formation and even saw a rush attempt early in the gain, though he only managed one yard. Fannin nearly had a much more productive day but came up inches short multiple times. Joe Flacco threw a floater to him near the end zone in the third quarter, but the pass sailed just past Fannin for an incompletion. Flacco went back to him late in the game for a deep shot, only for the perfectly thrown pass to slip between Fannin’s hands. The volume remains a positive for Fannin, even if his box scores have been modest. He is stuck in the TE2 ranks heading into Week 5 against the Vikings.

PFF's Nathan Jahnke - NFL Week 4 Recap: Immediate fantasy football takeaways from Sunday's games
Harold Fannin Jr. reaches new highs in snaps: Fannin played 85.1% of Cleveland's offensive snaps, beating his previous high of 72.4%.

Fannin had an excellent stat line in Week 1 with seven receptions for 63 yards. His production has declined each week, finishing with 48 yards in Week 2, 25 in Week 3 and 24 in Week 4. However, his playing time rose in a meaningful way this week.

Part of his playing time increase was simply due to an increase in two- and three-tight-end sets. This was partially due to Cedric Tillman’s injury. However, Fannin played a season-high 37.5% of the snaps in single-tight-end sets on early downs. He also played 57.1% of the snaps in single-tight-end sets on third downs. This was the first time Fannin played more in these situations than David Njoku, whose playing time was around his average this week, thanks to the increase in two- and three-tight-end sets to counteract the decrease in snaps in single-tight-end sets.

This makes Fannin a buy-low option, as he should be the Browns' top receiving tight end going forward. Njoku has been held under 40 receiving yards each week and hasn’t scored a touchdown. There might not be better options on the waiver wire in 12-team leagues, but it may be time to drop Njoku in 10-team leagues for a higher upside option or a player at a different position.
You didn't see the result payoff due to how poorly Flacco played and one (arguably two) drops by Fannin Jr. but the usage was fantastic. This is what Fannin Jr. owners have been waiting for.

We've been waiting for 4.4 PPR points?

The bar is low

Zero reason to hold a backup TE based on snap count

But, when he scores 15+ points you’re going to bragging about at his usage rate. Much rather have a guy that’s involved and on the field than a guy that scores on a fluky play here and there. This guy is all over the field and Flacco missed him on a potential TD.

Whether you start him, hold him or drop him is up to you; I don't know your team/format/options. Right now he's caught up to a top 12 TE in David Njoku as a rookie. He's out-targeting NJoku while lining up in the slot and halfback, getting the occasional carry and now getting a bigtime bump in snaps/usage in 1 TE.

Did he get the result we wanted. NO! But to have this level of increased work/activity with the fact Njoku is a FA and the WR core is currently not doing much to help (Jeudy with a brutal game and Tillman got hurt)... the argument can be made Fannin Jr. is no worse than 3rd in the pecking order for targets. The arrow game by game has consistently pointed up, even if the result we wanted didn't happen.

No i wont. He'll be on everyone's bench when he scores 15.

No one is saying he wont have an occasional game or two. But good luck figuring that out and thats droppable just like most TEs.

He's just taking up a valuable bench spot that someone else could be helping you now, if you have large rosters then
holding him is not going to hurt you. Everything may be pointing up but the end result is not going to be there
with how the offense is and who the QB is

He may go off for 15 but it will be an isolated game and will not help anyone

If he's your TE 1 I'd be worried. But he's fine if he's your TE2. TE is a wasteland. Who else in his range has his potential?

Ouch. Was my Kittle replacement.

I passed on Andrews and Goedert on the waiver wire this week who then got picked up.

Planning on putting a bid in for Strange and dropping Fannin.

This. He's a dynasty TE stash with a chance to be decent enough to spot start. It's fair to say that he will need to splash at some point to be a dynasty TE worth holding, but I think one or two of these games will be there this season when it's all said and done.

I definitely got carried away letting him fly as my TE waiver option of choice on several zero TE re-draft teams.

I'm picking him up again as I need TE for Pitts Bye week.

He's 8th in targets thru the beginning of the season. He is a rookie, TEs usually take longer- Fannin is really outperforming those expectations and pushing the veteran TE to be relevant. I plan to start him week 5 in this TE wasteland or Strange.

His biggest problem is Flacco is awful

Gabriel came in and played right? Do you think the Browns pivot to him as QB1?

At some point this season absolutely yes.

He played one series, threw only pass and it was in the dirt nowhere near anyone. At some point he will get more chances but I would guess he’s nowhere near ready.

We need Flacco out

I hope they do. But they will start Flacco again. We need the rookie in there checking down to his TEs all game.
I have Bowers and JJ so I can wait for Fannin to become more of a thing as season goes on. I think he'll have a huge 2nd half, especially if Najuko gets traded.

Gonna hope this QB change spikes some more involvement. Fannin usage is up in Week 4

According to PFF, "Fannin played a season-high 37.5% of single-TE sets on early downs and 57.1% of single-TE sets on third downs. Fannin edged Njoku in those situations for the first time this season."

per https://www.draftsharks.com/shark-bites/79344/did-harold-fannin-quietly-have-a-week-4-breakthrough

Plus they have some extra chemistry time from the Rookie Mini Camp days, https://x.com/dan_labbe/status/1920924130410721370.

Here is some sept hype not really a good point but let's get TDs!!!! https://www.youtube.com/shorts/jZFYpRnWub8

Hearing that Dillon is a good passer from the 2-8 yard range so giddy up for Fannin target monster.

I don’t really expect Fannin to get a boost from Dillon in the short term. The entire offense, which was already bad, has now gotten worse.

I could see a lot of garbage time targets as a safety valve. The way they have moved Fannin around the formation could be key in giving Gabriel high percentage, short to intermediate throws. More 7/63 type performances like Week 1, perhaps.

That’s my optimistic take.
