TE Hayden Hurst, LAC (1 Viewer)

Hayden Hurst caught 6-of-7 targets for 53 yards and a touchdown in Cincinnati's Week 5 loss to Baltimore.

Hurst cleared zone coverage on a crossing route before bowling over some members of the Ravens secondary to put up Cincinnati's first touchdown of the game. He also was targeted three times in a row in the red zone in the third quarter, drawing a holding call against Kyle Hamilton and watching an end-zone target with a Ja'Marr Chase pick go well above his head. If Tee Higgins' ankle injury is anything to be worried about for Week 6, Hurst profiles as an interesting low-end TE1 play against the Saints.

Hayden Hurst caught 3-of-3 targets for 21 yards in Cincinnati's Week 6 win over New Orleans.

Two of the catches came on the first drive of the game. With the Saints sending pressure, Hurst wasn't high enough in the pecking order to be targeted on most downs. He'll be a flier TE2 or DFS touchdown-or-bust prayer against the Falcons in Week 7.

Hayden Hurst caught 6-of-8 targets for 48 yards in the Bengals' Week 7 win over the Falcons.

It was Hurst's second six-catch game in three weeks since the Bengals started upping their pass volume, but he remained a distant fourth target behind Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd. Hurst hasn't established much of a floor in Cincinnati, and he has yet to spike a week. The latter is likely coming, but it will be difficult to predict. It is possible that Hurst's floor stabilizes around 4/50. The Browns are a soft Week 8 matchup.

Hayden Hurst (groin/ankle) was limited in Friday's practice.

That is two limited practices in a row in the lead-up to Week 8. Hurst has played through the groin listing for weeks, but the new ankle tag is worth some attention. Hurst could continue to be a decent TE1 streamer with Ja'Marr Chase sidelined, but don't expect league-winning lines or anything.

Hayden Hurst caught all five targets for 35 yards in the Bengals' Week 9 win over the Panthers.

Hurst made a couple nice grabs in the first half to keep drives alive, both of which ultimately ended in Cincinnati touchdowns. His low volume was more of a product of the extreme positive game script for the Bengals, who went into half up 35-0 in the eventual rout. Hurst has been as advertised for the Bengals, posting the fourth highest true catch rate at the tight end position this season. Hurst and the Bengals head into their bye before traveling to Pittsburgh to take on their division rivals in Week 11.

I thought he would have a better game. Outside of a short list, the TE position is such a crapshoot.

Hurst more than likely would have had a good to really good game if Cincy did not blow them out in the first half.
If game stayed somewhat close he would have been involved more in the second half

Chiefs player gets names wrong while giving Bengals huge bulletin board material
...Chiefs safety Justin Reid talked with reporters about the upcoming showdown with the Bengals and…had some problems while throwing out a little trash talk.

First, Reid confused Bengals tight end Hayden Hurst as Rams tight end Tyler Higbee. He then confused Hurst with Bengals wideout Tee Higgins.

Speaking Monday, Bengals HC Zac Taylor told reporters that TE Hayden Hayden Hurst (calf) is doubtful for Week 14 against the Browns.

Hurst was replaced by Mitchell Wilcox in the sense that Wilcox took over his snaps and routes. However, Wilcox is unlikely to have much of a pass-catching role in the offense. Against a Browns defense that could push the Bengals to the run, Wilcox should be avoided and Hurst will be a risky play even if he suits up.

Hayden Hurst (calf) did not practice on Thursday.

Everything we've seen -- from Zac Taylor believing he's doubtful to Hurst's practice status -- indicates he won't play this week. He'll likely be ruled out on Friday and Mitchell Wilcox will be tasked with replacing him. Wilcox will not be a recommended fantasy streamer.

Hayden Hurst (calf) was limited in Tuesday's practice.

Hurst has missed each of the last two games with a calf ailment, not practicing at all. This is a good sign that he's got a chance to be active against the Patriots on Saturday. Hurst would make a decent TE flyer against the Patriots if he's cleared to play.

Hayden Hurst (calf) has been ruled out for Week 16 against the Patriots.

Hurst will miss another game, though he was able to log limited practice sessions this week. Mitchell Wilcox, who in Week 15 against the Bucs caught three passes for 34 yards and a touchdown, will once again operate as the Bengals' primary pass-catching tight end against New England. Wilcox is a desperation streaming option.

Hayden Hurst caught 4-of-6 targets for 45 yards in the Bengals' Wild Card win over the Ravens.

Hurst continues to operate as the primary tight end for a team that utilizes heavy 11-personnel alignments but is no higher than fourth in line for targets on the potent offense. He narrowly missed his third touchdown grab of the season as he was tackled at the one on the Bengals' first possession of the second half, leading to a Joe Burrow rushing score on the following play. Hurst could see more schemed involvement next week as the Bengals travel to Buffalo to take on the two-seed Bills in the Divisional Round.

Hayden Hurst caught 5-of-6 targets for 59 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' Divisional Round win over the Bills.

Hurst got wide open on the Bengals' second drive of the day for a 15-yard score, which was made possible by the Bills' defense biting on a screen route by Ja'Marr Chase. Hurst nearly matched Chase (61) in receiving yards in a game that the Bengals took control of immediately and were able to salt away for much of the second half. Hurst will be in play as a TD bet against the Chiefs, but there's a decent chance he will pay off if the game turns into a shootout.

Hayden Hurst (calf) said he'll play in the AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs.

Hurst practiced Friday ahead of the Bengals' AFC title bout with Kansas City. He was added to the team's injury report Thursday with a calf issue that has plagued him for the past couple months. Hurst could be more involved than usual this Sunday if the Bengals continue to operate a quick-hitting passing attack against the Chiefs.

Hayden Hurst (calf) is active for the AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs.

Although the Bengals are healthy in the skill corps, they are still missing starting offensive linemen Jonah Williams and Alex Cappa. Joining Williams and Cappa on the sideline are QB Jake Browning, RB Chris Evans, CB Jalen Davis, DE Jeff Gunter and DT Jay Tufele.

The Athletic's Paul Dehner writes "I think Hayden Hurst ends up back in Cincinnati."

The beat notes that the tight end group being a strong suit of this draft class could "suppress" Hurst's market. Hurst finished with a 52/414/2 receiving line despite missing most of December and January with a calf injury. It makes plenty of sense for the Bengals to get younger at the position, but having Hurst to stabilize the group while someone new works in wouldn't be a bad idea.

Panthers are expected to sign TE Hayden Hurst, formerly of the Bengals, to a three-year contract.

In Hurst's lone season with the Bengals, he caught 52 passes for 414 yards and two touchdowns while being among the league leaders in tight end pass routes. The always-inefficient Hurst, entering his age-30 seasons, would immediately start for the Panthers as the team's primary pass-catching tight end, dashing the hopes of every remaining Tommy Tremble truther. Hurst is well positioned to be a frustrating streaming option for fantasy managers in 2023.

Hayden Hurst (sports-hernia surgery) will resume running routes against air on Friday.

It gives Hurst almost took months of runway to work up to full speed ahead of training camp. Coming off a 52-catch season, Hurst has some low-end TE2 juice in the Panthers' rebuilding offense.

Low-end TE2 juice...sounds like a term his agent came up with.

I was working on some rankings, and Hurst is an interesting one. In theory, he could be the Panthers leading pass catcher, he could also be as low as 4th again in the target order, in a much worse offense. Its really interesting to me that he somehow managed to average under 8 YPR last season. That's almost impressively low, lowest of any TE with over 35 catches. He'll also get more defensive attention without Chase/Higgins around.

Low-end TE2 seems fair to me, but low-end TE2 also means waiver fodder in my eyes.

Especially for a guy who will be 30 in August...at this point he is what he is which is a solid real NFL TE who has been barely relevant fantasy-wise.

Hayden Hurst caught 5-of-7 targets for 41 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 vs Atlanta.

Hurst led the Panthers in receiving with DJ Chark (thigh) out and Adam Thielen (ankle) less than 100 percent. His touchdown came on a red-zone pass from Bryce Young in the first quarter. Hurst looked to have a good connection with Young, with the tight end pacing the Panthers in targets. Hurst is on the streaming radar for a Week 2 matchup vs the Saints.

This sounds bad.

Panthers TE Hayden Hurst has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Amnesia, according to his father.
Hurst suffered a concussion in Week 10, missing three games since then. He did return to practice Wednesday, but was in a red non-contact jersey. Hurst’s father tweeted that Hurst has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Amnesia by an independent neurologist and has a “slow recovery” ahead of him. Eventually, Hurst may be able to return to football, but is now dealing with a more serious issue and recovery ahead of him.

A lot of folks make fun of concussions or call players soft for getting them.

This is a really good reminder of how serious it is. I mean, it’s a brain injury, so that’s pretty bad already.

In this case it sounds pretty significant. Prayers up.

That sound serious and no idea why he'd consider suiting up again. It does however remind me of a really old joke I'll rework for Hurst.

Doc: "Hayden, I've got some bad news and some really bad news, what do you want first"?

Hayden: "damn doc, give me the really bad news"

Doc: "I'm afraid you are suffering from mental depression"

Hayden: "dang doc, what's the bad news"?

Doc: " you have amnesia"

Hayden: "well, at least I'm not depressed"

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports a deal between free agent TE Hayden Hurst and the Chargers is “in the works.”
RapSheet confirmed a post from earlier that suggested Hurst was on the way to the Chargers. While the two sides haven’t agreed to a deal yet, the former No. 25 overall pick in the 2018 draft is more than familiar with Chargers’ offensive coordinator Greg Roman, as the two spent a year together in Baltimore. Hurst has appeared in just 26 games over the last three seasons and caught 18 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown last season.

(Rotowire) Hurst agreed to a deal with the Chargers on Friday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

Analysis: Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported Thursday that Hurst visited Los Angeles after being released by Carolina on Wednesday. The Chargers' pass-catching corps will look very different in 2024 after Keenan Allen (heel) was traded to the Bears on Thursday, Mike Williams (knee) was released Wednesday, and tight end Gerald Everett departed to the Bears on Tuesday

(thehuddle) Free-agent TE Hayden Hurst (Panthers) signed with the Los Angeles Chargers Friday, March 15. Financial terms were not disclosed

“The standout player in the passing game: tight end Hayden Hurst, who caught seven balls in the practice. Six of those came on throws from Herbert, including a full-extension diving catch on a crossing route in the final 11-on-11 period.”
