TE strats revisited... (1 Viewer)

Thoughts? Generally I think most would agree there is more depth as well as "upside" TEs this year than any recently so they aren't going quite as high/costing quite as much. Most also seem to agree that there is a top 4 tier of (in no order) Gates, Gonzo, Witten, Winslow, then a few mid-tier guys like Clark Cooley etc, then a lot of so-so' with the alleged upside, eg V Davis, Miller, Daniels etc.

So.....spend the extra to secure a top guy? Save picks/money and go 2d tier? Or roll the dice with 1 or 2 cheapies? And why?

As maybe you can tell I'm pretty undecided. :goodposting:

I totally agree with you here that there is a ton of low tier guys that have huge upside. Guys I have targetted in all of my leagues: Donald Lee, Fasano, Daniels and Keller.

Donald Lee - he'll be the 4th receiving option, last years totals are his ceiling imoFasano - good football player, but doesn't have the talent to have huge upsideDaniels - has the talent, a good team, good qb, and no legit #2 wr thereKeller - talented but young, good team, good qb, but will be 3rd option in passing game at best

I almost always target a TE in the 4th round. I feel that it gives me the edge over other teams just like a very good defense will. These are positions you have to start every week, and there is a huge drop from the top tier to the next.

I usually end up with Winslow (ppr). Later I grab one of these 2

Zach Miller. Seems to be the top target of a young QB

LJ Smith. Was huge before the injuries, and if healthy (big IF) could be the top target of McNabb this year (outside of Westbrook). Kind of a gamble, but could pay off big. He was franchise tagged, which says alot.

Personally, I shoot for a Top TE that I like in round 5 and if one's not availabe I'll wait. I agree with Zulu that having someone like Winslow/Witten/Gates/Gonzo does give you a little edge week in and week out (unless your playing a team with one of the other 3).

If Winslow/Witten/Gates dropped to me in Round 5 I'd take him in a heartbeat... Other than that I'll wait and grab Daniels, Keller, Z. Miller type player.

I see the guy as a safety valve for a young QB. Short, high percentage passes will build up his confidence...
Fasano - good football player, but doesn't have the talent to have huge upside
Was one of three finalist for the the award for best TE as a SR at ND. The guy has mad talent. In college had an NFL quality QB throwing to him. Played behind Witten but showed great hands when he got a chance to get a ball thrown his way. And Parcels brings him with him from Dallas? The guy is going to be a monster.
Daniels - has the talent, a good team, good qb, and no legit #2 wr there
Agreed....
Keller - talented but young, good team, good qb, but will be 3rd option in passing game at best
Favre has been known in the past to utilize the TE in the redzone. I really like what I've seen of this kid in preseason. And maybe I've just seen too much of him with all the Favre press coverage as a Jet, but I like this guy. And being 3rd best receiving option when a guy chucks up 4K from behind center isn't all that bad...
