I like Nd2, though we are just hoping for a blunder here.

I also like Kf6, as it put our king in a very active, defensible position. The next turns are something like:

37.Ra7+ Kf6

38. Rc1 Kg5

39. Rc3

I'm for Kf6 too
My biggest worry with Kf6 is that he goes back to Ra8 to chase the bishop off the diagonal protecting the pawn. Kf8 avoids that.

I guess we can just return to f7 at that point.

What do we do if he goes Rd8, though?

Bc6 Ra6

Rc5 Rd6

????

I think he can chase the bishop to a draw at this point. Though that may not be a terrible outcome.

Nevermind -

Kf8 leads to Rd8, with the threat of Ra1 to put two attackers on the bishop. Bad, bad news for the bishop there. Kf8 looks no good.

Agreed - either Rd8 or Ra8 leads to a bishop pin with no real good way out. Kf6 really looks like the only choice here.

They have moved Rf8.

I think we should consider Rf5+. I know we lose the g pawn eventually but I think it's more important to protect our f pawn chain.

I'm pretty sure that he can chase our bishop from being able to protect the a pawn if we go Rf5+

Rf5+ Kg3

Kg6 Rc8

Be4 Rxa4

Things almost look better if we preemptively sacrifice our g pawn

g3+ Kxg3

Re3+ Kf2

Rc3 Rxf7+

Ke5

eh - maybe not

They've moved Kg3. My initial thought is Kg7. We're going to lose the a pawn, but I think we can get some pressure on the other side of the board. It doesn't look great but it's as good as I see it.

Thoughts?

I can't see anything good coming out of Kg5, so it's probably between Kg6 and Kg7. We're going to lose the a pawn either way. I slightly prefer the position of the king on g6 rather than g7 to help support any pressure we can generate on that side, so I'd probably prefer Kg6.

But I don't have a long-term attack plan here - we don't have much movement space with our rook right now. The only advantage that I see to Kg7 right now is that it forces him to move his f8 rook, but I think he's going to do that anyway to chase our bishop. What advantage do you see for Kg7 over Kg6?

BTW, I think I found a better site to do these team games on where we can all look at the same board, etc. Much easier to have one board that everyone can see.

We'll see about implementing after I win the next tourney. :throwsgauntlet:

I think Kf6 is our only option. If we go Kh5 or Kh6, I think we're in big big trouble:

Kh5 Rxg4

????? Rc7

Be8 Rc8

Bd7 Rh8++

I don't see anything that we can do at ????? to stop it.

We're still going to lose the g pawn, but I don't see as quick of a mate in our future.

They've moved Rxg4.
I'm looking at Bxg2. It puts their rook and king under pressure and trades a pawn, at the least.

41.Rg8+ Kh5

42.Rxg4 Bxg2

43.Rxa4 Bf3

44.Rh4+ Kg5

See anything better?

Sand, something seems off here. If Bxg2, Kxg2.

Notation off or am I missing something?
Yep - and then we respond Kxg4. Bishop for rook is a good trade if they choose that.
I like the looks of Bxg2. They will be able to get that a pawn fairly easily with the current setup, so may as well trade it for their pawn. It also opens up a lot more options for attacking their king.

Also, thanks for fixing the 37. Kf6 notation in the first post - it was getting annoying having to fix it.

Guys, we moved Kf6 not Kh5 2 moves back. So we aren't attacking their Rook.

This makes Bxg2 no good.

Kf6 was what was suggested and I went with that.

Ah - that changes things rather substantially (Kf6 was the right move).

I'm tempted to go Rg5 and force the rook trade - those two rooks working together are going to kill us eventually.

Can't go Rg5 without protecting the pawn, so need Be8 first there. I don't see much else to really move to be effective. I'll recommend that.

I thought I was just shticking, but we should seriously consider Rg5+, and force the rook trade now

If he responds Rc8, it looks like, at best, we trade our a pawn for his g pawn.
