Tell me again why Terrell Owens was so bad? (1 Viewer)

He is supposedly the most controversial WR in NFL history. Yet has never been suspended by the NFL , never been in trouble off the field ( he had a medication issue in Dallas but that was as close as it got ) , always works hard. He is now One of the oldest wr's in the game and still performing at a very high level.

TO has never had any off-field problems. The problems with him were always related to his role on the football team and being insubordinate. Like brawling with team captains in locker rooms, ripping his QB on national TV, publicly calling out coaches, little things like that which probably wouldn't go over well if you tried them with your boss either.

That sums it up. In the past his performance took a back seat to his antics which were at the very least at the expense of the team and at worse was a distraction or detrimental to the team. When I last looked it up, football was a team sport.

When I think of TO I think disapointment - disapointment because he clearly has not achieved what he could have achieved. Such great talent, so wasted so often.

Whiney petulant child

You think great wr (Hutson, Rice, Lofton, Monk, Carter, etc.) you think players who left it all on the field. Players who did not destroy their teams. Players whos teams think they were great players

TO? Just sadness at the waste of his career

And he is the only one who has done that? Look I understand SF to a point, an totally understand Philly (but I think it was not just him, but he took it to a different level), but Dallas I still cannot see what he did to get ran out of town like he did. And as we see in Dallas he was speaking the truth when he talked about Romo focusing on one player to much. I know somethings the truth hurts but it does not mean it is wrong.

Is this true? How much better could be have been? Isn't he in the second tier of WRs right below those guys anyway?

(Bragging Alert)

Not everyone thought he would be terrible. In the "Call your own shot, one bold prediction" thread this year, one particularly intelligent poster (me) said:

"Not that bold, but TO will out produce Chad Johnson (I refuse to call him Ocho any more after the Revis game)."

In the same thread, I also predicted "Mike Williams of Tampa Bay will out produce Crabtree this year."

Both of these are starting to look like locks, which is great if you consider the other bold predictions that people make in that thread, it is always a funny read:

Call your shot

Because he does push-ups in his driveway.
Those were situps...I had him the year he got suspended by philly - he was blowing up that year and during the draft everyone was afraid to grab him. He is a little humbled now that he has been bounced around the league a bit. But I agree his attitude has gotten in the way of his ability.

I don't recall any other receivers in Dallas ripping the OC and QB in interviews. His contract was up anyhow and they had Miles Austin waiting in the wings. Not aware of any other receivers starting locker room brawls in general either. I do remember Keyshawn getting suspended by the Bucs like TO was by Philly., as well as causing incidents with the Jets. He got shipped out too. If there are any others I'm sure they suffered from similar criticism. Behaving like that is the problem, nothing's personal.

You honestly don't understand how TO earned his controversial reputation?

From an NFL standpoint, it was certainly discouraging but not surprising to see on the last Bengals possession, T.O. slow down and cut his route short due to the "footsteps" of the approaching defender and thus facilitating a game-ending interception. However, such decision by T.O. keeps him healthy and will allow continued stat compiling for his HOF bust and various fantasy owners.

Yep, he's putting up fantasy numbers and has a good shot to finish top 5 or 10 this year at WR.However, he has sucked as a football player. The number of drops he's had. The weak effort given at times that has led to interceptions or incompletions. His habit of catching the ball for a first down and then running backwards trying to gain more yards (and avoid contact) and giving up the 1st down. He's been a net negative on the field for sure......

Completely agree. He has dropped balls for years, but now he is causing more interceptions than anyone I have ever seen. That interception on the final drive yesterday was crazy. He just completely stopped his route for no reason and the ball that was leading him went right into a Dolphin interception.

 That, like the the throw to him in the endzone earlieer in the quarter, was all on Palmer and his wet noodle of an arm. Palmer threw that ball 10 feet too far in front of him.

If T.O. had a real QB he would be putting up huge numbers this year.

Palmer is done.

He is much better than all but Rice

I have never seen one player do as much damage to a team (off the field) as TO. He has done it in multiple locations. While as a PERSON he is not as bad as some guy who beats his wife, gets into fights at the club or has drug issues, his act may in fact have done more harm to his TEAM than even those far worse offenses.

My, how we have short memories here. No one ever doubted this guys talent, nor his heart - just his utterly selfish antics that indeed pulled teams apart from the inside.

Are you serious? Palmer may be completely toast at this point, but that ball was thrown to where TO should have been and would have been if he had kept running. It landed 10 feet in front of him because he stopped running (again). The ball in the endzone both guys were awful. The pass was horrible and TO's "attempt" to catch it anyway was just as bad. If he just makes an attempt at it, it would've been pass interference and the ball at the 1. Or, he could've actually made a play to catch the ball anyway when the defender had no clue where it was.

You are free to have your bias about the 2 players, but defending TO on these 2 particular plays borders on insane.

Bad Analogy...if his Arm was like a wet noodle, then the pass would have been 10 yards SHORT, not 10-yards long... :lmao:
