NASHVILLE — Charges may be filed against a Tennessee State University football player dismissed from the team and expelled from school after he attacked assistant coach T.J. Greenstone on the sideline during the Tigers' game on Saturday.

Head coach Rod Reed kicked Latrelle Lee, a senior defensive end from Dothan, Ala., off the team immediately after the game for improper misconduct following the assault, TSU officials confirmed.

Lee, 22, was expelled from the university Monday morning.
Is it just me, or is something missing here? I'm unable to find video that shows what might have lead up to the blows. Besides being the teams strength and conditioning coach, Coach Greenstone is also tasked with walking the sidelines, keeping the players not in the game from getting too close to the sidelines. Lee, a senior, is/was a criminal justice major.

Doesn't pass the sniff test for me. Anyone know anything more?

First, they kneel for the anthem.  Then, they attack.

Disrespecting the anthem and US soldiers is just a gateway to more violent conduct.

In the words of Dalton I'm going to say "You don't have the right temperament for the trade"

I know nothing abiut this player, but if he can say goodbye to any NFL aspirations he may have had. Not even the Raiders would take him now.

Apparently the players were getting too close to the sideline and the coach kept telling them to get back....appears Lee took umbrage with his tone.

It takes that tough guy 2 sucker punches to knock out a coach? Weak.
He's gonna need all that criminal justice knowledge when he turns to a life of crime.

Did you see a pic of the coach? Neck as thick as my thigh.

   Just saw this comment:

Am told this wasn't his first time hitting a staff member. How is that possible?

Great program...

if any one of you ever played sports and said you never wanted to punch out one of your coaches, you're lying
Sports?  I have wanted to punch out my BIL, my former boss, a smart assed cashier at Kroger, the kid who made me a crappy pizza last week, some bozo who would not shut up at a theatre.

Getting punched twice in the temple area by a 6-2 250lb football player while not looking would drop pretty much anybody.
And if you watch the video- they all appear to be from one source- not only does it not show the lead up to the incident, it goes forward and backward and foward and THEN appears to show more of a brief scuffle- the other coach at left extending an arm-  before the two blows land. Something like that. :oldunsure:

Going to have to wait to hear what caused it before I judge but if it wasn't the coach, not only should the player be booted from the school and sent to jail but the other coach and every player within a few feet need booted off the campus. No one intervened.

i love talking 8th grade basketball

we had 8 kids. we had to scrimmage against our girls team if they were in the same gym. if not the starters went against our bench (3 kids who had zero athletic ability whatsoever) and the 2 coaches.

i was.... 5'6"? 5'7"? then and played forward. our center was maybe 5'10"

one coach was about 6' but mean as a chained pitbull. biker gang member, alcoholic, chainsmoking, fistfighting sonofa#####. he and the other coach.. about 6'2" - 6'3" and a nimble 3 bills easy played in a men's league together. they used our practices as warmup for their games.

they would fast break up and down the court on us. the bigger dude could dunk so he would slam the ball 50% of the time. fun times.

definitely wanted to punch those dudes but also didn't want to end up in a rain barrel under the swamp floor.

Surprised the head coach waited until after the game to kick him off the team. He should have been sent packing immediately, go take a shower and find a ride home, and don't bother showing up to practice.

I don't. I have ruled that the player is stupid. Let's say the coach provoked him by spewing an uninterrupted stream of personal aspersions and racial epithets. If the kid walks off the sideline and then repeats everything the coach said to the press, the guy will probably never coach again. He had a sideline full of people that would back him up. Instead, he knocks the guy out. Now the coach is a victim and the kid's life is basically ruined. No degree, will never play football again, and is likely to end up in jail.

So, yeah, you can say he's young, you can say he was provoked, but let's call it like it is. It was a stupid move. *gavel bang* Next case....
