Tennis - Sinner accepts three month ban - won't miss Roland Garros (2 Viewers)

Calling for the towel every other point has to stop. It's like calling timeout in baseball to tighten your batting gloves every pitch. :hargrove:

Cripes, after the Simon 5 setter, he took out seeds 7, 3, and 2 winning 9 of 10 sets, winning four of them with a 6-2 score or better, won 59 games to 33 (9, 12, 12).

Long wait until the French now, can Djokovic hold them all?

What's up with Federer entering the French but scheduling no clay before that? Strictly to keep his consecutive major played streak alive? If going to punt clay, then punt clay.

RIP Bud Collins.  He was over the top and most of the nicknames were ridiculous but he cleared loved tennis and made some contribution to the sport's popularity during its golden age.

Sharapova failed drug test at Aussie Open.  According to her press conference she failed for a drug she had used for 10 years that became banned in 2016 and she didn't read a letter from the testing agency that had listed the drug as going on the banned list.

Has not been notified yet of what punishment would be.

Her punishment should be a night in the sack with me.

I'm shocked that a Russian actually failed a test given what's going on with their testing apparatus.

They just banned cocaine this year?

Does anyone really know the substance? I was lucky to see Sharapova and Serena go at it at Staples Center back when I lived in Los Angeles, Serena crushed her but I was close enough to see Maria pretty clear and she is one hottie on the tennis court.

She named meldonium.

:lmao:  Someone already added a note to the wiki page for the drug about this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meldonium

Meldonium is known to increase stamina and testosterone levels. Banned in the US, but it is available in Russia and other EU nations. Not surprised she got busted, and I'm not buying that she uses it for medical reasons.

The drug was only "discovered" in 2005 and went into clinical testing in 2008.

Of course, the real reason she is a dope is she didn't get a TUE from her doctor saying she needed it for her angina.

Doesn't Sharapova spend most her off time living in the US instead of Russia?  So she would even basically have to import it during her off time.

What baffles me most about this is how does this happen clean or dirty?  If you are trying to cheat, you'd think you'd open any doping stuff right away to see if they caught onto your tactics and you need to switch.  If legitimate health reason, think you'd open it right away to make sure nothing got put on so you could avoid looking disgraced like this.

Looks like the language filter is ####### broken.

I think Raonic is the 2nd best player in the world right now.  Good chance he wins a major this year, or next at the latest.  He has to hurry up before this Zverev dude matures.  He's going to be a beast.

The entire U18 men's hockey team from Russia has been booted from attending World Hockey Championships due to positive drug tests. Coach was fired too. Reportedly a bunch of players tested positive for meldonium.

Their mens curling team also bailed just a day before the Worlds started last week.

Djokavic just has no peers right now, he's mowing down those masters at an unheard of rate.   It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up with 40 in his career, which is stupid.

Whether he breaks Federer's slam record, that's still a long shot if you ask me, but at the end of the year he could have 13 or 14...   I mean if there's a guy who can get the calendar slam it's Nole....  he's great on every surface.... and now doesn't have an elite rival...    You think about it.. without the best clay player of all-time  Federer probably has 3 calendar year slams.   Nole should probably have at least 1-2 already.

Nadal only stopped him twice in years Federer would win the other three majors so 3 seems unlikely.

Can't wait for the French, it's not the Grand Slam but holding them all at once would be incredible to see.  Hope he gets the job done this year.

true, i forgot that in 2005 he lost the AO to Safin

Shocking lose for Novak.  Should be a very interesting tournament.  I wonder why Nishikori doesn't play Monte Carlo.

Also, why doesn't the review work on clay?

French Draw tomorrow.  Not that his odds were good but Federer has pulled out.

Master 1000 results for Djokovic, Murray, and Nadal

Monte Carlo:  Djokovic lost 2nd round to Vesely, Murray lost SF to Nadal, Nadal won title

Madrid:  Nadal lost SF to Murray, Djokovic beats Murray in 3 for title

Rome:  Nadal lost QF to Djokovic, Murray beats Djokovic for title

Title for each, Murray and Djokovic each beat the other plus Nadal while Nadal beat Murray but did not score a win over Djokovic.  Maybe the most interesting thing was Djokovic seemed really agitated in Rome which was last 1000 before the French so maybe pressure of winning the one he hasn't or holding all four majors might be getting to him.

2015 Champ Wawrinka had results of QF, 2R, 3R.  Doesn't tell us much about his form or ability to run off a major, his results last year were 3R, 3R, SF.

Federer pulling out means Nadal goes from floater into someone's quarter to having his own.

Djokovic still heavy favorite but Murray has looked impressive.  They spilt their matches but Murray won 3 of 5 sets in the two finals.  Granted different winning 3 sets in a single match over a guy that has owned you in recent years.

I'm good with Federer pulling out, he had no chance in Paris.

I hope it means he's ready for Wimbledon and the Olympics, but I don't have many hopes for this season.

I just hope Nadal loses, rooting for Murray or the field to win this event.

Djokovic-Nadal in to half, Wawrinka-Murray in bottom

Possible seed match ups for 3rd - 4th - QF

Djokovic:  Delbonis - Tomic, Bautista Agut - Ferrer, Lopez, Cuevas, Berdych

Nadal:  Fognini - Thiem, Anderson - Goffin, Kohlschreiber, Sousa, Tsonga

Wawrinka:  Chardy - Troicki, Simon - Raonic, Pouille, Sock, Cilic

Murray:  Karlovic - Paire, Isner - Nishikori, Dolgopolov, Krygios, Gasquet

McEnroe had an interesting query...

Can you guys remember anyone who didn't bounce the ball at all before serving?
