Tennis - Sinner accepts three month ban - won't miss Roland Garros (2 Viewers)

I don't see either of them winning this tournament. However, if Federer can survive the first week he has a decent chance to win. He is just working off the rust right now.
He's in real trouble now. I'm actually ok with him losing, something is wrong

Nadal and Daniel standing 6 feet off the baseline and just bashing the #### out of the ball.

Well Roger has cleaned up his game after the first two rounds looked like he should retire.

Weirdest draw ever it feels like.

The entire non-Fedal half is a joke...   and in the QF's Rafa has some unseeded Russian.

Federer has the toughest match with Del Potro.. and his effort vs. Theim was incredible..  how he summoned that energy.. unreal.

I hated Del Potro with a burning passion after the '09 USO.. and I disliked how he had the audacity to beat Roger in Basel in two consecutive finals in '12 and '13.. but have grown overall to very much respect what he's done with his career despite all the constant setbacks....  their Olympic Match at Wimbledon which went to 19-17 in the third set was one of the greatest olympic level matches i've ever seen.

While I respect Del Potro's game,  I think I would be surprised if Roger didn't handle the match relatively easily due to Del Potro's fatigue factor.

So it's really looking like we're going to get Fedal for the virtual championship/semi and the other side can just keep being a joke.

I'll weigh in on the Fedal match after Wednesday

From what I can tell they've not played before at the U.S. Open - is that correct?  Would be a huge match for the rivalry - I'll assume the winner takes the title - if so, if Fed wins he's up 5 GS titles on Nadal vs. 3 if Nadal wins.  I would favor Fed slightly and would love to see him get #20 going through Nadal.

Rublev is going to be a tough match for Nadal, he is definitely on his way to being a Top 10 player and his game is no joke. I actually think Nadal is more in danger of losing in the Quarters than Federer.

They have not played at the USO.

What scares me is that the oddsmakers have already inserted Nadal as the favorite to win the title,  the USO court is running pretty slow (whereas the AO court was running fast).

Fed should have as high of confidence as he's ever had vs. Nadal given that he's beat him three times this year on hard court...  However it still took Federer everything he had in the tank to beat Nadal and a little luck in a GS match.   In the masters events he disposed of Ralph quite easily.

If he wins #20 and gets 5 up on Nadal I believe I could watch tennis without stress for the rest of my days..  If Ralph gets #16 I feel like I'd still have to stress for the next few years before his knee or wrist finally fails in totality.   I would also be great with neither winning and some random schlep winning... but that seems pretty unlikely at this point.   It would be dumb if Federer beat Nadal, then had a massive letdown in the final or a return of his back issue and Querry or someone stupid got a cheap GS title.

This guy didn't even show up.   I thought based on your post he'd at least win 12 games..  looks like he might get 6

Kid is nervous, Rafa is his hero so these type of matches can go a few different ways. I'm still really high in on this kid's future and he only had dropped one set coming into his match.

How much would tix to a Fed-Nadal match run and what would be the best way to obtain them (outside of Craig Carton)?

It won't matter if Fed wins this - if he plays this poorly I doubt he beats Nadal.
Yeah, this. Mediocre-er won't win this match or vs nadal.  Not sure what happened to his untouchable form from the rest of the year, but this looks a lot more like 2013 Federer than 2017 Federer

Honestly at this point I think I'd just as soon him lose to delpo than look like this vs Ralph.  Delpo could beat Ralph, though I wouldn't bet on it

Disgusting.. Just gross.  So much waste there.. 4 set points.  Just not good play, weird decisions...  I've seen Roger play like this, but not this year. Damn

They've commented a couple times on why he's not attacking his backhand more - I don't get it but I'm not the GOAT so maybe he has his reasons.
That last backhand down the line by Del Potro was a good reason - he's been dialing that in as Roger comes to the net

Real Big trouble now- Roger seemed to still be in the tiebreaker in his head and now he'll have to stew over the missed overhead.

Just have to laugh. Sometimes it isn't your day.  Again, it's ok.. But gosh can someone beat Ralph.. Please?

This is maybe like the 6th time I've ever watched a full Del Potro match - I can't believe he's winning this - I've never been impressed with his game.

Just not sharp today, in any aspect of his game, and most of all the mental aspect. Running out of time to get it together..

Juan could've been great if not for all those surgeries. Definitely a multi slam winner ala wawrinka.

But make no mistake about it, he's not winning this, Roger is losing it.

That third set tiebreaker was laughable.

This is the Federer that got taken to five sets by those random dudes in the first two rounds.

Not sure what happened post Wimbledon, lack of motivation?  Just don't know.  Federer has been snake bit at this tournament since 09.  He should've won this tournament 7 times

Have to admit that Roger isn't in the conversation of all time greats at the net.

Add another to the list of botched plays

He hits that and gets a break point.  Couple weird points and Roger could've won in 4.

Weird match.  Weird tournament for Roger.  Weirdest draw of all time.

I'll be pulling for Juan Friday.

Go get him!

Ok, what a complete waste of my time - that was pathetic to watch - no offense to Del Potro but I won't even watch the semis now.
What is WRONG with you? Underdogs are great. Upsets are awesome. Federer is a slam hog. Del Potro's story is terrific. His match before this an all time epic. God bless the guy.

Underdogs suck.

Federer should have 23 slams, he's under achieved.  Sucks.

He got worked by the better man tonight. Love it.
This is my exact problem with it - after watching these two for 2-3 hours and 4 sets I can only conclude one thing - Federer sucked balls - Del Potro didn't show me much other than some big first serves.  I'm not emotionally invested in Fed's GS total like Dentist.  I'll think Fed is GOAT even if Nadal manages to pass his GS total.  So, I don't really care if Nadal wins in the semis and I fully expect him to.

I think Federer lost the second he entered Montreal, he should've taken the time off, played cincy, won, then head into uso with max confidence.

I still don't think he's 100 percent.  It's unexplainable what happened to him in the first two rounds. I thought he was over it in the last two matches but the 'off' play continued today.
