Was he in one of the Taken movies?Cilic is angry. You won't like him when he's angry![]()
Roger, Serena, and Rafa should all be on that list nowI wonder where Federer would rank if ESPN re-did their Sports Century series now. He & Serena have to be in the Top Ten or Twelve, right?

Hmm...way less restrained than I was expecting. C'mon Dentist, Fed just bagged another major, are you not entertained? That was more stressful than it should have been, but I'm thrilled Roger got it done in another 5 setter. His record in such matches has to have gotten much better. I definitely think cilic will end his career with 2 to 3 major wins. Great player.
Well done goat. This was an important one to get given how the draw opened up
Hard to get as excited about the ao as other tournaments because I can't watch much. Only match I saw was today's. And it didn't have quite the drama as last year over Ralph.Hmm...way less restrained than I was expecting. C'mon Dentist, Fed just bagged another major, are you not entertained?
Isner didn't even play. :( USA had already won so they just played one match (2 out of 3) Ryan Harrison won 6-3, 6-4 in unremarkable fashion. Still fun atmosphere and had great seats so not a total loss.Going to Davis cup today to see Isner's 700mph serve!
Defending champ, #1 seed, a guy who won two majors last year on his favorite surface/court in the world against a player who has never taking a set from him. Up two sets to none and had a match point in the third. While Anderson definitely raised his level of play, it was a choke job.Not a "choke job". Fed is about to turn 37 and it is unreasonable to expect the kind of consistency he had ten years ago. He just went a little off-song after the first set, and Anderson went to a level he has never previously attained. Oh well, at least I won't have any conflicts during the World Cup final.
The racquets are much bigger and more powerfulis there a separate thread for those actually playing the sport? i decided to return to tennis after a 25 year absence and need to be brought up to speed.
If Novak wins here it will give him 14 Slams, he is a year younger than Nadal and health wise in a lot better shape to be at the top of tennis for a longer duration than Nadal. That was one of the worst matches I've seen Roger play and he still should've taken a 2 sets to love lead in the second which probably would've taken the wind out of the guy's sails.
It's really ok because odds were not going to be great against Novak.
Now i just have to really hope someone beats Ralph.
Such a weird year for Roger
Wins ao and Rotterdam... Feeling great.
Then goes into Indian Wells and loses that match to delpo where he was up 40 15 on his serve with two match points... Really similar to tonight's second set
Then donks Miami against a scrub and he had match points. Wins a grass warm up, loses a grass warm up, loses in Wimbledon up 2 sets and has a match point in the third.
Cincy.. makes a final, gets crushed.
This really feels like his 2010 season.
Overall the season is a success because of the ao, but it feels like his game declined after Indian Wells.
I still feel blessed he came back and picked up 3 majors in the last two seasons. Magical. Sadly i still feel like he needs another one or two to keep the lead over Ralph. But if novak is back and Ralph is still strong it's hard to see where he picks those up.
Gen next just can't arrive soon enough
Not to mention that there is a lack of hard competition in the vein of a Fed or Nadal to challenge him after these 2 leave center stage. Sure there will be the occasional upsets from Zverev or Anderson - maybe Murray comes back. After that it's nada at the moment. He's going to have a greenfield to a number of Slam titles if he keeps himself healthy. If Novak wins here it will give him 14 Slams, he is a year younger than Nadal and health wise in a lot better shape to be at the top of tennis for a longer duration than Nadal.
It's hard to know where Federer's head is at right now.It seems he’s quickly entering the “one and done” phase, where, like Sampras, he plays to win one more major then calls it a career. Not in the least discounting his still top level talent, but the cumulative effect of this year’s losses feel like Father Time taking a mini-break in the 5th set tiebreaker against Fed.
I give Thiem a shot to win against Nadal in the Quarters. Ultimately, the game needs him, Kryrgios (get a ####### coach you dumb ###), Dimitrov and Zverev to step up and start winning majors. Also, Carreno-Busta would seem like a guy that perhaps could end Nadal's dominance on clay some day but the gap there is currently pretty wide. It's hard to know where Federer's head is at right now.
Slam #20 and getting back to #1 almost seemed like they were the end games in a way, though I certainly still thought he could have competed for Wimbledon.
In 2012 Roger had an amazing season, got back to #1, got the weeks at #1 title he'd been missing in his GOAT resume, won some masters.. and then the rails came off in 2013 and I thought were approaching the end of his career. Obviously, i was wrong because he made Wimbledon finals in '14, '15, and USO final in '15. Then the magic of '17 happened.
The problem with what I'm seeing on the court is that he's not using some of the same tactics he did last year. I saw it even in the Cilic AO final that he got through, but could easily have lost.. and that could be a physical limitation or a little bit of father time.
It's one thing to lose a Cincy final or Indian Wells final to top level talent like Novak and DelPo, but it's an entirely different thing to lose the matches he did at Wimbledon, the USO, Halle, and Miami.
Obviously moving into the fall swing and into next season you're still talking about a guy who's at worst in the top 4 to 5. If Nadal got nicked up and Djoker were upset.. is there really anyone you'd pick to win a slam over Roger?
I personally see him playing through the 2020 Olympics (and USO) to represent his country once more since he missed '16. It would be awesome if he could win the gold in that to complete one of the few pieces of hardware he doesn't have, but that's unlikely.
In 2015 if you'd have asked me I'd have said he had between 0 and 1 majors left in him. So to see him get 3 was an unexpected dream.. to get anymore would be unbelievable, but I don't expect it.
I really thought Ralph's career would be done now due to wear and tear, but clearly it's not, so the sucky part is having to sweat out his career and maybe Novak's until they are done. For Novak to get 6 more titles would be hard to imagine... but it's not hard to see Ralph getting 3 if he really keeps playing relatively injury free. Someone random like will surely come along and pick up a few majors to save the day for Roger.. kind of like Stan Wawrinka's 3 majors.. crazy unexpected.
Holy Cow... That was an incredible match. Sorry to see anyone lose. I love Fed but you have to give Nadal credit.. The guy is a beast..
