Tennis - Sinner accepts three month ban - won't miss Roland Garros (5 Viewers)

Alcaraz was -20,000 odds (to win $100), you'd have to be an idiot to make that bet b/c anything can happen, including injury.

The Olympics added an extra major. I imagine Alcaraz and some others are fairly spent mentally. He certainly seemed out of it. Which is why a guy like Djokovic is simply incredible I wonder how often he's lost before round 3 of a major in his entire career. Always mentally there

This Shelton/Tiafoe match is entertaining.

Kiss of death right there.
2024 - US Open R3
2017 - Australian Open R2
2016 - Wimbledon R3
2009 - French Open R2
2008 - Wimbledon R2
2006 - Australian Open R1, US Open R3
2005 - All 4 majors, in order - R1, R2, R3, R3

So since 2007 he has made R4 or better in 63 out of the 68 grand slam tournaments he has appeared at.

The outrage that will be caused by a Sinner win just a couple weeks after the coverup gets exposed would be monumental.

But his toughest comps are falling like dominoes right now. Zverev playing some good ball right now and his chances to get to the finals just shot up with Joker going out.

The New Yorker Navarro will finally get her due with this run, which I think will continue. Her rise has been steady and significant and the confidence can be seen now. Seems like a very bright, grounded lady.

Seems like Tiafoe generally does not toss the ball high enough on his serve. I’ve thought this before. Am I wrong?
Yes. That's something they would've figured out long ago if it was a problem. Serving is way too important.
I don’t think that every single player does everything exactly as they should and lots of players work on things at all times. tiafoe is 74th out of 80 the last 52 weeks in first serve percentage and I do think he would be a little better, uh, served, by using a higher toss

Roscoe Tanner had one of the most dangerous serves of his time with a toss that he seemed to hit on the way up. Making a mental note to look at Big Foe's toss.

I think I saw Tanner play McEnroe at the Trans Am Open in SF, c1980.. iirc, one of, if not the first pro tournament Mac played in.

Fritz was great against Zverev today, he is playing well enough to win this thing. I like Dimitrov against Tiafoe tonight but it’d be sweet to have an all-American semi. Sinner vs Medvedev should be awesome tomorrow. Not a fan of 1v5 in the quarters.

Sabalenka is really rocking and rolling tonight
The best woman player on the planet.

Until she isn't and implodes.

I'd love to see her keep it together and win this thing. And full respect to Iga... But when Saba is on, Iga gets steamrolled.. lol... Until she doesn't. Tennis, right?

Being bigger, stronger and hitting harder doesn't mean better in tennis.

That's not what I said.

Every time I've watched them play, Saba dominates Iga who looks overmatched. Then Saba implodes, and Iga always wins.

well ok but what you said was a bit confusing. I mean Sabalenka is much bigger and stronger so can look dominant in spurts but that's not what tennis is about.

You guys are saying bigger stronger... I'm saying dominant- in ways beyond being bigger and stronger. She controls points and the match with a full range of skills, shot selection, movement, court generalship, etc etc...even against Iga (who is the actual best player on the planet). But then it inevitably falls apart and she can't do those things. That's why Iga is better... She's so consistent and doesn't fold or implode.

Muchova is going to be an incredibly tough out. When she’s healthy and playing well her best stuff is as good as anyone else imo

Muchova was brilliant that first set. Loved how she attacked everything deep and how she came to the net with such conviction. Couldn't put a foot wrong...more of that and it was going to be a cakewalk and trouble for Sabalenka in the final.

They mentioned she's been sick... I wonder if it was physical and/or psycho-emotional exhaustion and/or plain stress in the big moment that caused her start missing the shots she's been making earlier.

Full credit to Pefula though. Floppinhas coach talks about status during each point- negative, neutral or advantage- and Pegula was on the front foot those last two sets, forcing the advantage her way with great court generalship moving Muchova around deep and side to side, or keeping it on her backhand and limiting her ability to come to the net.

Even in the loss, I still really liked how Muchova played. Hope to see more of her.

Pegula just has an amazing return of serve. So much pace.. Should be a good final on Saturday

This has been one of the best tennis tournaments in a long time. Mostly because there's a changing of the guard on both sides ... Fed and Nadal done. Djoker and Murray out early. Williams sisters no longer part of the intrigue. Swiatek out now. It's been a chance to see more of the next generation of stars in prime time. And they are answering the call. US players included. Also Sinner absolutely crushes the ball.

I watched tennis a little bit with my grandparents when I was a kid, then zero for 40 years or so. Break Point got me hooked again, majors are must-see tv. Love football, haven’t watched a minute past two nights.
