Gun attacks and Suicide bomb in Tehran

Iran's parliament and Khomeini mausoleum attacked by gunmen

Armed individuals have opened fire at the Iranian parliament and Ayatollah Khomeini's mausoleum in the capital, Tehran, causing a number of casualties.

Heavy gunfire could be heard on videos filmed from outside parliament, and there are reports that a security guard has been killed.

Several people were injured in the attack at the mausoleum, dedicated to the founder of the Islamic Republic.

One suicide bomber and two or three other gunmen were involved.

Latest updates

Ali Khalili from the mausoleum's public relations office told the state-run Irna news agency that one of the armed men had blown himself up in front of a bank outside the mausoleum.

However, the Fars news agency reported that the suicide bomber was a woman. Images from the scene showed the remains of the bomber, apparently clad in black clothes.

The Ilna news agency said two attackers had been arrested.

Five people were wounded at the mausoleum, and one person was confirmed dead, it added, though it was unclear whether this included the bomber.

It is unclear whether the attack at Iran's parliament is continuing. Fars posted new pictures showing shooting around the building.

An image showing a man with a gun looking out of the window, initially described as an attacker by Iranian media, actually shows a policeman.

But MP Seyyed Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini told the Isna news agency that three gunmen were still in the building, in MPs' offices.

State TV news channel Irinn said seven or eight people had been injured at the parliament by four attackers.

The gunmen were carrying Kalashnikovs and one Colt pistol, reports said.

Irna said one gunman had been arrested.

The attack at the mausoleum, several kilometres to the south of parliament, happened at the same time and appeared to be co-ordinated, reports said
Separately I have seen reports of seven dead (but the report is in Danish so no reason to link)

Reactions?

IBT "Religion of Peace"

Qatar Iran Hezbollah vs Saudia Arabia  Egypt United Arab Emirates and Bahrain  vs ISIS until someone drags Israel into it and then they set aside their different Islamic sect issues to unite against the true enemy.

first thought would be political, rather than religious.. given the locations. but I am lightyears from being any kind of expert on Iran.

ISIS taking credit....dam they are eating their own now.
Iran is acually fighting ISIS in Syria. Those two have never been aligned (ISIS are Sunnis (the whole caliphate is a specific Sunni thing IIRC) and Iranians are predominately Shiites)

Hard to keep up with who is fighting who in the ME anymore.

Daesh (ISIS) is Sunni Muslim. Iran is Shiite Muslim. Daesh is also mostly Arab while Iran is Persian. On top of all that, Iran has been allied with Assad for years and has actively backed the Assad regime with everything from weapons to soldiers including having Hezbollah, which is a prozy of Iran, to fight on the side of the Assad regime.

No where near being their own or ever was.
