One would think they are safe walking with your wife and two childeren in a park. Do we need to carry a weapon on us now just to walk in the park? This is some scary stuff.

Cristen and Clinton Brink were stabbed to death while hiking with their daughters in Devil's Den State Park in northeastern Arkansas.
Suspect Andrew James McGann, 28, was arrested after a five-day manhunt last week and charged with stabbing Clinton and Cristen Brink to death while they hiked with their two daughters on July 26.

Police said McGann confessed to the killings after he was dramatically arrested at a salon mid-haircut, and he was a match to DNA from the scene. The terrifying attack, which cops said was random, has sparked a second look at two unsolved murders at opposite ends of the country. If McGann were to be considered a suspect in more murders, it could prompt an investigation into the possibility of his being a serial killer.

I suppose if you are at a place like a park, where there could be isolation, you probably should carry a weapon of some kind. Something as simple as pepper spray could have saved these people.

My mom hiked (day hikes) the entire time she was alive in CA (1960-2024). A serial killer started hitting isolated hikers in the area...i think in the 70s or early 80s. Trailside Killer? I think technology has played a big role as well. People have gained more and more ways to entertain themselves from home and have less need to be hanging around outside, bored, looking for things to do, etc. There are a lot of factors that work together. Teen pregnancy has dropped as well. Teen drug and alcohol use as well. It all ties together somehow.
