Texans still taking a RB early? (1 Viewer)

My first thought with the Texans signing was that the team was happy with DD. However, Casserly was interviewed and he described the situation as taking DE in the 1st and RB in the 2nd vs. taking RB in the 1st and DE in the 2nd. So basically the Texans are still looking for a RB and the coast isn't clear for DD owners.

I think theyve done the right thing taking Williams. Id think going big on the other side of the line would be the next best thing to do, unless one of those very solid DBs falls to them. Matching up with the Colts as the leaders in that division, theyll need to be strong and deep to contend. But Id go Oline here with possibly Mangold if he happens to fall. I dont care how some people choose to defend that line, Carr's sack #s speak for themselves. Either the pass protection is awful and they really need an upgrade right there in rd 2, or they better start looking for another QB. I can see them finding a nice value RB in rd 3 or 4.

I really hope this is a smoke screen so teams wanting OT don't feel they need to jump ahead of them to take Eric Winston or Marcus McNeil if they are still there.

Wouldn't it be something if DeAngelo Williams slipped to the 2nd.

The Texans would look like geniuses then.
Yeah, that would be something called hell freezing over. ;)
I'd like to think so. But there have been rumblings.I have a hard time seeing where Williams, White, AND Maroney all fit in the 1st.

Maybethere's gotta be some smoke N mirrors. I'd be surprised if he told his draft plan truthfully, that just doesn't seem to happen.

There's some good linemen supposedly falling into the 2nd(esp if there's a CB run) and I sooooooo think they should draft one.

This is the rumor circulating in Houston. BTW, the TExans have not been a smoke and mirrors organization. If the trade up is complete they will take a RB unless someone beats them to the punch on their guy or someone else falls to them.

I would assume that the RB they are target is one of two things

1- A RB that does something that DomDavis does not

2- a Reggie Bush light.

i seen the casserly interview on ESPN and he didn't mention anything about a RB in the 2nd.

at least not that i remember, when did he say that? PFT has been reporting it, but nothing much else

I'm as big a DD "hater" as anyone, but why would Casserly tip his hand like that?
I don't think he did it on purpose since he was just trying to justify taking Mario by saying they were choosing between going RB/DE or DE/RB. By doing so he made it clear they were interested in a RB whether it was Bush or not. I think the need for damage control over the picking Mario outweighed tipping their hand.

He also mentioned that they could also take another DE in the 2nd.

well, that narrows it down. So, basically they might take D. Williams, L. White, L. Maroney, J. Addai, M. Drew, B. Calhoun or J. Norwood?

DD is a very good RB, he has done more with less then just about any RB in the league, PERIOD. If he can stay healthy and the Texans can get a few studs up front, we are talking 1400 yards and 12+ TD's.

I was thinking White (power), Drew(Bush short), maybe Maroney...All the rest are variations of Davis Skills sets.

i saw it on nfl total access on nfl network...on texans cam. the interview was a good 5 minutes long or so. it was hard to miss his discussion about a 2nd round rb. he went into great length to discuss the thought process, strategy etc of the signing and stayed away from discussing bush's demands. as for the 2nd rd rb - is it smoke and mirrors OR is he just trying to calm down the restless natives in houston? it wouldn't be too difficult to realize that there a bunch of teams considering a 2nd rd rb that didn't expect texans to take one. it might force a team like indy to go 1st rd rb instead of waiting to 2nd rd rb...more rbs taken in 1st round increases the likelihood that a guy the texans really want is still there in the 2nd rd.

hmmmm...

:goodposting: aka smoke screen to get all the second teir RBs taken in the areas they are lookiing at OL.

Willams + 2nd round RB >>>>>> Bush + 2nd round DE
I disagree. I think Bush/Hali >> Williams/Addai, Drew, Calhoun (or whoever)
I am in 100% agreement with your disagreement. How do you pass on the best RB prospect coming out of college possibly ever???

If Williams and Bush are rated as 1a and 1b players for this years draft there should be no "how can they pass up on the best prospect?" argument. Williams, to some, is the best prospect from the draft.

To get a RB as their second pick, they'll have to trade around the likes of Pitt, the Jets (?) and Indy.

The Bears are willing trade partners at #26 - but it's gonna take a MINIMUM of the Texans 2nd and 4th round picks (if not their 2nd and 3rd rounders).

Then why does evey other team in the top 10 look happier than a butchers dog right now?

They're not 1A and 1B and nobody reputable has Williams as the best prospect. A lot of scouts I've seen have Williams anywhere from 2-4, he's not even the consensus #2 guy. A few of the guys I really respect have Maroney #2.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirmed the Texans expect to use a Running Back by Committee in Week 1.

Speaking of this weekend's preseason game, Kubiak said, "Wali (Lundy) and (RB Vernand) Morency will play the game rotating as if we were playing opening day." This confirms that both running backs are quality fantasy sleepers, although they will be difficult to use because they may cancel each other out. Aug. 25 - 8:01 pm et
