Anyway, I live in Austin and a buddy of mine works at a local Blockbuster that Limas Sweed frequents. He's been in his store 3 times in the last 6 weeks and my friend chats him up every chance he can. Sweed is definitely leaning toward declaring for the draft and seems to think he'll go pretty high with a good chance of going in the 1st round. From the way he talks, it definitely seems as if someone's in his ear, feeding him that prediction. To my buddy and I, it sounds overly optimistic.

I'm no scout, but IMO, he has the necessary raw tools but lacks refinement and tends to run lazy routes. My buddy and I both agree that he'd benefit from another year in college, especially considering this year's top-heavy WR class.

Hes a guy that would really be served to go back to school. Lots of natural ability and great/size speed, but these things rarely equate NFL success. He needs to develop better hands and learn to run a few routes.

Agreed, and at Texas guys like this almost always stay. If seeking linkable information. Sweed said on the 27th of December that he put in his NFL paperwork out curiosity to see the evaluation, but that he wasn't entertaining any thoughts of leaving school. A couple of other Longhorn reports "matter of factly" state Sweed is coming back. None of this debunks the OPs information though. He may have saw that second round grade and thought, "Man, I came to this college to play football in the limelight and turn pro. Mission accomplished?"

;) Sweed needs to dedicate himself to his craft. He runs lazy routes and is just not consistent.

Yep.

longhorn alumni here... Sweed reeks of Ashley Lelie. He's lanky, not physical which wouldn't be bad if he had the skill sets of Randy Moss, which he doesn't. Disappears in big games. Wears the same # Roy did, but is nowhere close to being as good an NFL prospect.

End of the 2nd if he's lucky. Bad routes and inconsistent performane. With a 4.4 and great interviews (both are far from certain) he's still not going ahead of Calvin, Jarrett, Ginn, Meachem, Samardzija, and Rice...

I have seen a ton of Texas games and the only thing that is similar between Sweed and Roy Williams is the number. He actually reminds me of the Mike williams the pro in that he is a really big guy that willl have heck staying at a reasonable weight for a WR. Does not seem to be quick off the line or in and out of his breaks. Of course, he can just beat a decent amount college corners because he is too much physically, but I think he is far from a Jarretts or Johnsons or the world. From what I have seen I would not touch him before the 4th round in 2007 or 2008.

Agree with most of what you said, but Sweed isn't nearly as thick as Williams. Nor has he demnstrated any problems staying in shape. Sweed 6'5", 215.Williams, 6'4" 230.

Wow you couldn't be more off base. Sweed has a slender build and no time in his career has he had trouble with being in shape. He does need another season in college ball before he is ready for the pros.

I really hate agreeing with diesel, but he becomes a top 15 type pick if he stays in school another year.

He's good, but do you think he's really fast enough to go top 15?

If Sweed can put up some gaudy numbers and continue to improve physically, I think he's got a lot to gain by coming back. He could put up some monster numbers next year with Colt. Speed may hurt him some, but this guy can ball. He seems to catch everything that comes his way. He is a play maker. He didn't do anything to blow scout away this year though. He needs to come back next year and showcase his skills.
