Good Fantasy Football Managers know when to walk away from a player who is riding into the sunset, but far too often we are head-down, looking to fill the void that they left. We call them done, offer them a "Peace Out," and chastize the manager who actually gives them a roster spot the following year. "What have you done for me lately?" is our mantra, and we don't think twice about it. One can do a search and find hundreds of comments this season that share this sentiment. Let's not do that this time.

It's clear that Marvelous Marvin isn't quite as marvelous anymore. He can't get the separation he used to, and no longer commands the double-teams that paved the way for Reggie Wayne's ascension to WR1. He's still out there, still giving it a go, but by no means is he the presence or factor that he has been over the years.

But his achievement in the National Football League, as well as in Fantasy Football, is undeniable:

Marvin Harrison will end his career in the top five for all-time receptions, yards, and TDs by a WR.

He holds the single-season record for receptions by a wide margin.

He is a shoe-in first ballot Hall-of-Famer.

He is a Super Bowl Champion...

...and in our myopic little world of fantasy football, he has been the #1 WR in the land four times, while being a top ten WR eight times.

He has paved the way to thousands of fantasy football championships over his illustrious thirteen-year (and counting) career. Perhaps he even helped you once or twice.

So, in today's environment of the next big thing, the next young gun, and the next waiver wire pick-up, let us put down the mouse and give pause. Let us take a moment to stop fussing over whether or not Justin Gage or Antonio Bryant may or may not help you eek out a victory in week nine. Let us raise a glass to a man who mastered his craft, and gave us all an opportunity to reach the promised land.

Here's to you, Mr. Harrison. Your contribution to the game of fantasy football has made you a legend.

Bud light ad coming out honoring Marvin Harrison? :lmao:

Agree with all of the above, but I still want to give thanks for him sucking last night. My opponent had him. No worries.

Now..back to the career kudo's and accolades.

Now, get out of the way and let Gonzalez take your spot already.
What's worrisome to me is that generally the aging vet doesn't need to "get out of the way". The younger players that are gonna be really good, demand the spot.
Harrison is a hall of famer. I suspect it's hard for Dungy to ask him to step aside and I don't think Harrison acknowledges how much he's lost yet. I think that, depending on how much they continue to struggle but no later than next year, AG becomes a starter opposite Wayne. Of course, I'm an AG owner so I may be a little biased here.

Harrison done me good in week 6. I wouldn't be surprised to see Marvin ball out for a game or 2 at somepoint in the remainder of the season.

Fair enough.

Sorry, this might help a little--> :goodposting: Simply has had a stellar career and seemed to be the ideal of conducting himself in a classy conduct despite the attention starved diva WRs of his day. Well done.

I was fed up with him weeks ago, and benched him the week Indy played Baltimore. Suffice it to say, I lost my game because of that. :towelwave:

I am afraid he will do the same thing the next time I bench him, but I figure, at this point, my number 3 RB is a better flex play. Fortunately, Harrison has only been my number 4 WR.

Marvin was a good football player, and a good man. He was one of us.

He was a man who loved running post routes, and scoring touchdowns, and as a wide receiver explored the end zones of the NFL from Jacksonville to Foxboro. And up to Detroit.

He faded. He faded as so many young men of his generation, before his time. In your wisdom Lord, you took him. As you took so many bright flowering young men, at Ralph Wilson Stadium and Riverfront and Tampa Stadium. These young men gave their careers. So did Marvin. Marvin who…who loved football.

Excellent post. Let's go bowling.

Please let us know ahead of time so we can get him into our rosters. He's sitting on my bench until he puts together two -three good games in a row. As a dynasty owner, don't think I can get anything for him, it looks like we're riding off into the sunset together. Can't complain though, gave me some good years.

OK heres my note of gratitude.

Thank you Marvin for leading my team to the championship a few years back. When all my big guns sucked in week 16, you were the only one who exploded with 100+ yards and two td's to seal the win.

Let's not completely write off Harrison yet, might as well write off Manning if we do since he's looked just as bad. The Colt's offense as a whole has looked horrid, and it can't all be because of Harrison's age. If Manning can recover mentally from his knee injury then Marvin can be written off.
