With COVID cases ramping up nationwide, are the risks of an indoor traditional Thanksgiving meal making you change your plans?

If you are hosting people in your house, are you taking any precautions for COVID?  Is anyone planning on hosting or going some place for an outdoor Thanksgiving?

We are hosting but only having my parents over.  Typically we would have 10-14 other people at the house.  We will be monitoring the health of everyone leading up to it.

We'll go to my in-laws house most likely. We usually switch between there and my parent's house tear to year. My sister in laws family is usually there too, so it'll be 11 people total.

Only my wife and kids this year but we're renting a cabin in the mountains.

Normally it's my family, my folks, sister, and a few cousins.

My choice is everyone stay healthy and get together next year. My wife’s choice is to endanger her parents. Hyperbole abounds here, or does it?

Usually have a large potluck friends-giving with 20+ people.

Going to skip it this year. The hosts are front line health care workers. No need to risk that.

Considering having people make a dish, divvy it up into takeout containers, and placing on their porches for a drive-by potluck. Hit up one guy's place for the green bean casserole, drop off a slice of pumpkin pie, etc. That way everyone gets the full meal without exposure. Maybe have a zoom?

Probably will roll the dice. Kids and significant others traveling in town. It’s either take the risk or don’t see you kids. Reality is that it’s less risk than anyone sending kids to school or who has teens they haven’t put on lockdown

Didn't vote, 20+ all family (inlaws), all live in the same town.

I've recommended to my side of the family not to travel and skip Thanksgiving this year. I expect my mom to ignore me :(

Typically we have 40+ people get together at my grandparents. My grandparents have 6 kids (& spouses), 18+ grandkids (& spouses), and 10+ great grand kids, so big holidays are big gatherings.

This year it's just be my parents, siblings, and significant others. Still 10-ish people, but not quite so bad.

Keeping our family of 4 together at home.  We typically go to my in laws early in the day, and then to my sisters late afternoon/early evening.  My wife and I both have decent sized families. I am still up for the normal routine but with masks and being conscientious of distancing.  My wife, however, wants to stay home and not visit either extended family.  Guess who wins that battle...

Typically we host another family or two at our house, maybe 10-15 total.

This year my wife really wants to host one family.  She says we'll keep the windows open and create flow through air exchange.  Only time without masks will be to eat around a big dinner table.

I'm nervous about it.

We have no family nearby. So we usually just stay home for Thanksgiving and travel for Christmas, instead. Not planning to make any changes to our holiday plans due to covid.

Traveling to OH to spend it with her mom. Will be 3 of us driving, 2 flying in and probably her sister & husband. Should be a hoot as the virus surges there.

As of today, we are planning to drive to north Chicago to visit my brother and his family. 5 of us and 4 of them.

Both of our families have been as cautious as possible, but as we know that doesn't really matter.  Just like anything else we'll be as careful as we can, and if anyone from either family shows any symptoms leading up we'll cancel immediately.

Staying home as always with Mrs. O and the dog. We never travel over the holidays and even if we did, this would not be the year for it.

SIL is worried about COVID.  They usually host their family and my family (about 10ish people).  This year she is worried so doesn't want to combine but yet is fine with having two dinners (different days) so the parents can attend both.  I guess she doesn't understand how this thing works.

Typically either visit the inlaws (about 40) people or my family (about 25).  Pretty sure neither is happening so it will be my wife and 2 kids.  I understand it's for the best but super pissy about it.  Thanksgiving is easily my favorite holiday and while we can do the basics ie turkey, mashed potatoes, etc I'll miss the specialty dishes other relatives bring.

Us too.

My 80 year old diabetic mother lives with me so normally we're the ones that host Thanksgiving (as she gets tired after a couple hours and needs to go and lie down).  We normally have our close friends and family over--usually around 10-15 total people.   This year--we're doing remote Thanksgiving.  Mom and I will prepare three Thanksgiving family meals (we'll do three small turkeyes..etc) and we'll drive by each of my sisters houses and drop off a complete meal (luckily all of my sisters within 15 minutes of me) and will waive to them from our car.  After that---we'll go back home and get everybody on a zoom call for 15-30 minutes and eat together digitally.   I know it sounds like a lame set up but honestly--I think it's a very small and smart sacrifice considering how quickly Covid is spreading.

We usually go to my sister's house and there are probably 20+ family members there. She is still having as many of the family come over as she can. We are not attending. It will just be my wife and our 16 year old. As I mentioned in another thread, our 21 year old is at college and wanted to drive in. We were hesitant, but told her she could come. She however, wants to bring her roommate, because her roommate's family lives across the country and she doesn't want her to be alone. We aren't willing to risk this. So my daughter is probably going to remain with her friend and boyfriend at college instead of  coming home.  :(  Oh well, it is just another date on the calendar. I would rather be careful and have many more holidays together.

My favorite week of the year, usually have 20-25 family members from all around the country over. This year, just our mothers. Sucks. Really bums me out to even think about it.

we briefly considered having some of them come in (usually 10 stay with us) but they aren’t socially distancing and in fact are going to parties and events in a red hot covid state. Sucks.

Had nice weather this past weekend, so we got together with parents, and siblings families outdoors.

By definition your daughter shares a living space with her roommate, correct?  You were willing to let your daughter come for the holiday but not her roommate (who she lives with).  This seems illogical.  If one has it they likely both have it.  Seems odd to allow one and not the other.  Now if it was a friend that lived across town who she sees infrequently due to the Covid I could understand.

Yup, skipping my side’s 16 person get together, but driving down to Long Island for my wife’s.

Going to the sister in law's home, there will be 16 of us there.

If it were entirely up to me, we'd stay home.

Thanksgiving has traditionally been "my" holiday. We typically host my family with several mutual friends' families.

This year my parent will host indoors (only 5 of us total).  We are going to do something separate with 1 set of friends that weekend.

Keeping our family of 4 together at home.  We typically go to my in laws
this is us

thankfully my wife's brother and his wife are SUPER paranoid about covid due to their own pre-existing health issues so they tapped out of family thanksgiving this year. my side of the family has not met for holidays in years so no pressure there.

8 people total at our home.  Usually we have 14-16 to watch the Lions lose and then eat..
always been curious how this impacts a true Lions fans Thanksgiving.  are you just immune to it by now? would you rather they not play every Thanksgiving, or is it so ingrained in the culture that you wouldn't have it any other way?

We are staying home with just our boys. Seeing as how neither my wife or I have ever cooked a Thanksgiving meal and she is... challenged... in the kitchen, it promises be a grim day for which I’ll still be thankful.

I’m going to attempt the buttermilk brined turkey in the Times today.

By now??  I have been immune for many years.  I don`t really get excited for a win, but I don`t get mad for a loss either. You have to realize they have 1 playoff win in 63 years and that was 30 years ago,  never have been to a SuperBowl.

My daughters are now saying "Same Old Lions" and they are in their 20s.  I told them it probably won`t be in my lifetime but hopefully they will somehow turn things around in your lifetime.

Right now with Stafford getting older, the coach and GM probably getting fired after the season but you never know with the Ford family.  Lions are looking at another total rebuild.

MY BIL lives on Lake Winnabago, I have have been to GB for big games.  We never have those.

you could have taken the lazy way out but you didn't because family is obviously important to you.  Kudos to you & your mom!
