The 100 Greatest Songs Of 1978 #1. Werewolves of London (2 Viewers)

Like Tim, I am a part of that "ilk" (should I put that on my resume?) and seems like I got a target on my back with that crowd.

I am trying figure what happened with Tim as his last posts gave no indication that he posted anything untoward (although those may have been deleted by the mods).

I do recall he was getting into it with jon_mx who (and this is just my perception) likes to push the buttons of people here on the left. Now coincidentally (or not) jon also seems to be MIA and has been conspicuously absent from the Kyle Rittenhouse Thread since the trial started. Perhaps they had a back and forth that got out of hand and both were put in the forums' jailhouse.
To be fair, though, Tim, even though I do not often agree with him, posts in good faith and is more than willing to engage in discussions where he takes the opinions of others into account and will even sometimes change his mind.  And he will admit when he is wrong.  None of the same can be said about you.

Hopefully Tim will return shortly and we can actually continue discussing the 100 greatest songs of 1978.

In the meantime I must address your mis-characterization of me.

Obviously you don't read my posts or have some preconceived notion of them, as I generally respect the opinions of others when they are not insulting my point-of-view or using laughing emojis. There are several people (like the guy who has the nickname for always being wrong or the "college professor") who regularly call me names and then ask for a serious discussion (but it doesn't work that way).

And over the years, I have admitted that I have been wrong probably over a dozen times in the PSF or in here.

We wont be seeing much of Timmy no more?

It’s pretty clear there is a sub section of posters whose only aim is to get Tim and his ilk banned forever so they have a far right utopia sub forum. They hammer the report button when Tim and others fall into the trap. It used to be an anti president forum,Has been since GWB. Honest discussion is hard to come by there these days, but at least Tim was trying. Tough when those who oppose his viewpoints choose to bait him into posting something stupid, which he is very capable of, instead of discussing issues.

we need a list of the far right people that are up to this.  I rarely go into that place.

It’s a 2 way street there. Ask Joe about the hassle he’s getting about the Brandon thread. It’s so bad I rarely post directly at somebody I don’t absolutely trust in that forum. Total poop show in there

Thats a fair comment.

On the one hand we get the left leaning posters reporting people for not following “rules” that are more an attempt to guide people and get people to be their best, rather than be strictly observed and enforced.

On the other we get a small group of ultra right wingers who must talk offline, that have a list of targeted individuals. If they find a suitable post, they agree to hammer the report button.

Both are a drain on moderators. I know which is the more successful strategy....

Either way Timmy did as Timmy does and got whacked. Only question is how long.

As much as we like to kid Tim about his taste in music he is definitely a solid contributor to these forums. As opposed the the low life mouth breeders who only exist in that one forum in order to report other posters. And yet Tim is banned while those others continue to exist under Joe Bryant's full approval.

It is unbelievable...those guys need to be permabanned.  What a miserable existence.

With all due respect that is a bunch of malarkey.I do agree about Tim ,  he’s a  lovable blowhard.

This turned into an interesting thread. I knew it would when a certain participant started particpating, but I won’t name names because I’ll get reported.

Tim hires illegals often as part of his business.  Maybe he got rounded up by mistake with some of his workers and was deported. Hopefully he is a good swimmer and will be entering Texas again soon.

Joe seems to take their side.

probably because he has been repeatedly warned. What’s the definition of insanity?

number one rule these days is to post about the topic and not the poster of you disagree
I think its harsh to blame it on Joe and the moderators. BassnBrew probably summed it up best. Sometimes Tim and others post what is in their head and dont think before posting. I think its pretty clear what you can and cant do. When Tim exited the political forum, no bans I think?

Repeated infractions matter. I think its reasonably clear that right leaning posters get the benefit of the doubt for board balance,  but they would probably disagree.

As to those who just want to get people banned, how the heck do you police that?

Looks like 1978 is gonna have to wait awhile longer

You’re right. I barely ever visit the forum and never post so I have no “side”, it was just an observation that’s maybe just recent or maybe my observations were wrong. Either way I probably shouldn’t have said it.

But we don't know that is the reason for the time out, (or even if there is one) do we?

Anne Murray would like to have a word with you.
Anne appeared at my small college in the late 70s.  I was the student chair of the Concerts Committee, so I was able to spend time with her.  Classy lady and quite the professional.  Before the show she casually asked about who a big conference competitor was and what the local river through town was called.  During the concert, then, she worked both of those facts into her on-stage banter.  I was able to bring a couple folks backstage to meet her - a super fan and some high schooler from her area back in Canada doing an article on her.  She was gracious with her time for both of them.

Carry on.

67. Van Halen “Eruption” (from Van Halen

https://youtu.be/M4Czx8EWXb0

With this short guitar solo (studio version only; the live version could sometimes be over ten minutes long) Eddie Van Halen changed heavy metal and hard rock forever, introducing “tapping” to a popular audience. Nothing would ever be the same.
I'm not sure this is really a "song" - I know it's titled but it's more of an intro to "You Really Got Me",

66. Bob Seger “Hollywood Nights” (from Stranger In Town)

When I think of Bob Seger I usually think of “Night Moves”, “Against the Wind”, and this song. They’re the three giants for me. The other stuff is secondary.
Definitely my favorite song of his. Not a gold star distinction since I don't like most of his stuff, but this one's a really good song. Playing that drum track will wipe you the #### out.

Ranking seems a bit low for a song mentioned among the all time rock greats.

The best version, and I don't know which album it's on (Nine Tonight, maybe?) is the live one where he kicks it off with "It's good to be back in Boston!" The tempo is sped up just a hair and it rocks big time.

64. Bruce Springsteen “Racing In the Street” (from Darkness On the Edge of Town

https://youtu.be/cm9UuM3UXdc

Many critics regard this as Springsteen’s best ever song; as will be seen, I don’t even regard it as the best song on the album!
But that being said it’s quite good. The melody, beginning with the piano opening, is a classic.

Curious to know if longtime Springsteen fans around here share in the critical adoration of this tune?
