The Apple iPhone Thread (3 Viewers)

Where did he say it was "just to keep it running"?You made that assumption based on your own bias.
Tigerfan: My EVO has really started dragging Tommy: My EVO is holding up fairly well. I flew to Hawaii recently and spent probably 2 hours tweaking my settings, getting rid of old apps, setting up widgets though. He directly attributed his EVO holding up well (not dragging) to his 2 hours of tweaking.

Been playing a couple games on my iPad lately and went out tonight. While I'm waiting for things to get going I booted up those same games on my iPhone. Never thought I would say this but gaming on the iPhone just doesn't compare. Screen size is just too small.

What Apple needs to do is make a phone the size of an iPad. Game, set, match, if they do that.
What
Maybe they could also make an iPod that looks like this.

So, going to the next iPhone release. What's going to be new? It's about time for them to change their docking port isn't it? Every 3-4 releases they usually do one of these "planned obsolescence" moves. Is it going to happen with the new iPhone?

You see what you want to...he did not attribute it holding up well to the tweaking. They were separate statements that it is holding up well and he spent time tweaking it...even came back and said he exaggerated that. You saw what you wanted to because it wasn't an Apple product.Look, we get it, you love your Apple products.

docking port will go from 40 to 20 pin. AFAIK this is no longer a rumor. Also should have micro usb support.

The word "though" at the end of the second sentence ties it together with the first statement and positions the tweaking as the possible reason his phone has held up better. PRO TIP: Try reading the words out loud to yourself when you get confused.

 Really? I was only joking (sorta). USB? Really? That's so "archaic".

Assume there still won't be the ability to "search" files on the computer like a "file explorer"?

As has been discussed several times already Apple got an injunction to avoid micro-usb on 4s from the EU. EU mandates all phones support micro-usb standard for reasons that I haven't exactly been able to come to grips with. They only ever used 19 of the 40 pins anyways so it was long overdue to swap connectors. They may have an EU version perhaps with 20 pin and micro-usb? Who knows.

jailbreak it and you can get access to the file system. I doubt they will ever allow layered support in their mobile system. It's part of the mission statement.

So none of my power cords from my previous iProducts will work with the new iPhone? Man, I hate greedy corporations...

this was a long time coming.

Not confused at all...I have you pegged pretty spot on.

They give you a new power cord with every product purchased. So it's not like you have to go out and buy more. The only way that will hurt me is make me unable to use my new phone (eventually) with my clock radio/alarm. And that was a gift, so not a real big deal.

Perhaps but you are making a complete fool of yourself in this instance. Maybe you'll have better results next time.

True...but its nice having multiple cords.I have one for my iPod...wife has a 4s.

If I get the 5 and have a different cord...it means my new cord has to go everywhere (car, trips...) rather than just bringing one cord to be able to share.

What is the benefit of the new 20 pin connector? Are we talking faster transfer speeds? Faster recharging? If not then why bother making the change.

They really should have pushed harder to move to a wireless charging system. They already have wireless syncing so this shouldn't have been a very big challenge. But even if it is still out of their reach for now they could have atleast stuck with the existing size connector before making the move to wireless on iphone 6.

Form factor considerations drove the change. There won't be any performance gains. Wireless charging is still immature and takes up lots of real estate vs. a cable connection and has very low penetration in the market.

Specifically size considerations. They decided they needed the extra space internally for other components.

Form factor can mean a lot of things, not just size. I understood that that's what you meant but was just clarifying for others. Not sure why you feel the need to be an ####### here, I was simply adding specifics to the discussion.

Found this mildly amusing. Makes me feel better about my pessimism ;)

iPhone 5 coming on August 7th?
Probably feeling the pressure more and more to compete with Samsung and Android. Apple demands removal of banned Samsung products
all kidding aside, are you still in HS or do you just get off by rooting against tech? The tech world & consumers both benefit when there is heavy competition.

You must know that this patent pissing contest is going on by all the parties. No one is the good guy in the patent wars

I'm all for keeping the Samsung products on the shelf. Just pointing out the fact Apple is going to extreme measures to make sure we don't get the tech we want.Kinda funny how I simply point to a article and you come out with insults.

In the last week my ip4 was wicked slow. Like 15 second from the time I clicked my bookmarks and hit "Ffa" until the time it started loading the page. Everything else was super slow as well...just felt bogged down.

I went to settings > safari > advanced settings and found I had 4 mb of cookies and tracking stuff. Didn't seem like much but I deleted it all and now the phone is back to being fast.

Just in case anyone else is experiencing the same.

 to the phonesuit. Got it on Thursday and loving it so far.
been running one for a while now. agreed that it is the best of the battery cases. Much better product than the Boost or Mophie cases and the battery life is VERY good.... The tops break pretty easily but that's common of all battery cases. They at least give you two.

Interesting... my 4s had 2MB of crap in there and it wasn't slowing at all. Cleared it anyway to be safe.

What am I supposed to like about this new design that is out there right now? The two-tone looks bad. Is the screen bigger? I cannot tell. There is still a home key, which I have had malfunction on two iPhone4s, as well as my wife's.

looks like 4G will be the main addition. The phone being stretched longer for more screen real estate really isn't that great IMO.Also with a huge majority buying the 4s in the last year still under their 2 year contract upgrade i wonder how well this one will do.i'll stick with the 4s until the contract is up, nothing makes me want to run out and upgrade to the new one IF it is the one that has been leaked.

Unless it looks like a complete flop, I'm upgrading from my 4 on day 1. The 4S wasn't worth the upgrade from the 4, so I'm anxious to see what the 5 has to offer.
