The Apple iPhone Thread (3 Viewers)

I'm afraid to quote your posts, but you have definitely made me wonder "who" you are hiding from?
It shouldn't be that ####### hard to figure out who I work for and what I do.
Yikes. Easy there, GB. I think I've been in this thread a total of 10 times and I haven't read everything. No knock on you, but I don't have all the pages from my old notebook from 10 years ago so I had to start a new one. And I don't have much on you other than you've helped me with some iPhone questions.

Finally got around to resetting my iPhone 4. Back to the factory settings. Been looking online to sell it now and get some money. I'd rather not have a big iPod now and will probably buy a nano instead. The iPhone 6 is my target now.

glyde.com is "offering" $85 but I'm not familiar with them.

gamestop online is "offering" $59 in store credit... my phone is near perfect if not perfect.

Or, I could check around to see if anyone needs an iPod/iPhone 4 to activate/use. Take the money?

Have a verizon iphone that I am thinking of upgrading. looking around at all of the places, they all roughly end up at the same price. Was looking at T-Mobile, and theirs seemed cheapest if you bought the phone up front, and didn't follow their no-contract, but pay $30/month for the phone bit.

My question is does anyone use T-Mobile? I have used Verizon forever and rarely had an issue with them, and don't want to switch to a second rate POS company just to save a couple bucks. Is that what I'd be doing?

TIA,

If you haven't updated to iOS 7.0.6, do it now!
Why?
On Friday, Apple quietly released iOS 7.0.6, explaining in a brief release note that it fixed a bug in which "an attacker with a privileged network position may capture or modify data in sessions protected by SSL/TLS." That's the understated version. Another way to put it? Update your iPhone right now.
What if I'm still on iOS 5?

This is a problem for me. I don't have anything on IOS7 and they are all jailbroken. A major move like this now is not what I really want to do. I haven't even gone to look to see if 706 is J/B-able or not.

7.0.6 is still j/b able. Thank god.

I can't believe the ios6 users had this bug all this time and nobody spotted it. Hell, it looks like it goes back to ios5. Jesus.

It also exists in OS X, no patch ETA. Did they patch iOS 5? I read there is a 6 patch but not sure about 5.

This is excellent news. I can keep my ios6. I have no plans to ever go to 7 at this point.

To clarify, this is OSX v10.9.1 only.
I would assume most would be on this since it's the latest version of Mavericks, which was a free upgrade. Not sure why you wouldn't be on it since it was a free upgrade.

I'm on 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)

If your hardware supports Mavericks not sure why you wouldn't be on it. Adding iBooks and fixing dictation were the tipping point for me.

There are zero features on Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks that compelled me to risk the shift. Instances like this are exactly why I generally wait for an OS version to stabilize before I make the move.

I don't read iBooks (I prefer paper for novel reading) and I don't use dictation on my laptop/desktop.

For me... stability of an existing system is worth more than incremental addition of services that i just don't use. I understand there were some measurable "invisible" improvements with mavericks but I wanted to wait a bit before making the move. I'm glad I did.

Everyone done the update to iOS 7.1?

iOS 7.1 has been released to the public – get it now for iPhone, iPad

Just over one month after its last iOS 7.1 beta was released, Apple’s has pushed the release version of its iOS 7.1 software out to the public. Apple’s last pre-release version of its mobile software, iOS 7.1 beta 5, was released on February 4th and as BGR’s sources had previously stated, it was intended to be the final beta version for developers ahead of the iOS 7.1 Gold Master (GM) version. Curiously, Apple has decided to skip the GM build and release iOS 7.1 to the public. According to an earlier BGR report, iOS 7.1 has been scheduled to be released to the public sometime in early or mid-March for quite a while, so the release is right on time.

UPDATE 1: Two unannounced iPad models have been discovered in the iOS 7.1 code!

The new iOS 7.1 software features a number of major changes including new user interface elements, bug fixes and plenty more. It also addresses several big complaints iPhone and iPad users have had since iOS 7 was first released last September.

iOS device owners with an iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display, iPad mini, iPad (third and fourth generations), iPad 2, and iPad touch (fifth generation) can download the iOS 7.1 update over the air (OTA) or using iTunes.

The latest public release prior to this new build was iOS 7.0.6.

Going to the store now. I upgraded to a 32gb from my 16 and it shuts down once a day and indicates it needs a charge. Plug it in and voila, powers on with 30-40% charge showing. 16gn never did this.
Defective bAttery. Free replacement.

Were you under the regular warranty or did you have the Apple Care?

haven't noticed a change in speed, but i do like the minor changes in appearance. not as dayglow, and the bolded icons and keyboard are a little better.

Can someone walk me through this like I'm 8? I have contacts on my iPhone that I want to export to my gmail account. I've tried a couple of different guides online and think I have done everything but when I go to the internet and go to gmail > contacts none of the contacts that are on my phone are listed.

I am running plain old non-jailbroken iOS 7.1 on a 4S. I have gmail set up on the phone, contacts turned on. SSL is turned on. Supposedly all I have to do from here is launch the Contacts app on my iPhone and it will begin the sync automatically. This is not happening.

Any idea what I am missing?

Ig> I've not done it, but seems like that might be something governed by cloud/sync settings in the Settings menu. Have you looked around in there?

Thanks for the ideas. I finally figured it out.

Backed up phone to iCloud, went to icloud.com and selected all my contacts and exported as vcard then went to gmail and imported vcard.

$200 for a used unlocked iPhone 5 is good, right?
I'm not a phone expert, but that seems like a fantastic deal.
That's what I thought. Also see a 4s for $140. Might go that route, based on the complaints here about the batteries in the 5. Just need to be able to shoot pics and send them, which I'm unable to do with my 3G on the T-Mobile network.

Bought a 5s and am awaiting it's delivery. Was thinking about a case, three areas of thought: simple, super protective and battery?

What are people using?

TIA,

bump on cases?
I have used them all... the vast majority of the battery cases are almost identical with very slight modifications in how you display/check the case's remaining charge.

Currently using an off brand "power pack plus" and a Mophie (difference is negligible) , plus a Kinps 4200mAh slide on that is a Hoss. Doesn't protect the top, is a bit bulkier/heavier than the others... but it's got insane capacity (something like . When I need a FULL day of heavy use in an area where battery drain is an issue, or if I go camping for a night and will be away from a charger for 48 hours or so, that's my go to. For reference the iPhone 5 battery is 1440mAh, meaning it's good for ~2.5 recharges.

Does the Kinps fit a regular earphone plug in the hole? I've noticed most of them having to use an attachment because the hole is smaller/deeper than a regular plug can fit. Also what kind of cord does it use, is it a USB on both ends?

Every iphone 5 case requires an extension to fit through the headphone hole (that I've seen), unfortunately.

It's a standard USB on one end (to plug into the wall/plug) and an iPhone 5/ lightning connector going into the case. MOST are micro-USB connections going into the case.
