The Apple iPhone Thread (2 Viewers)

They have the ability to limit how you use your phone and your digital music more than they did yesterday. Do you disagree with this statement?
How? Before they were using a DAC in the phone to convert to analog, if they wanted to control anything they could very easily do it in the DAC but more than likely would be doing it within the core OS. Changing the output to digital doesn't give them more control than they had previously.

Bluetooth sound quality at least in headphones is ok.  I challenge anyone to be able to really tell a difference between a aux and bt headphone short of some 800 buck ultra nerd thing.

Bluetooth sound quality in a car, versus an Aux cable is really bad.  It's so noticeably bad for me and when I have a choice I always use Aux.  I can't imagine jumping light to aux will do anything to solve that gap.
For me it's not necessarily sound quality but volume. In both cars BT audio is significantly lower in volume than using analog or *gasp* audio over lighting to USB.

Trading out a useless headphone jack for an additional speaker?
Useless to you, not to everyone else who wants to use a pair of headphones that they don't have to charge.  I already have too many damn things to charge.  When Apple comes up with a wireless charger you can put your iPhone and AirPods then they will have a product that makes sense to go wireless.  I love throwing my Nexus 6 on the wireless charger and not having to fumble around for a wire.  Seems a company like Apple should be able to match a two year old Motorola product.

So I guess I was under a rock but ATT did away with the subsidized iPhone if you renewed your 2 year contract? If so that sucks bad.

Wait.  Does this headphone thing mean I can't hook up my phone to the AUX cord in my car without purchasing another accessory?

Funniest thing happened today, I just learned how to work the Bluetooth setup in my car. This whole time I've been using an aux chord. Sound quality is the same.

I also lost my headphones 3 times today, no way in hell I'd buy those wireless things.

Yeah, this sucks for me. In addition to my regular headphones, I use the headphone jack for four other uses (PayPal credit card reader, plugging into my speaker system at work, plugging into my bedroom practice amp, and plugging into my portable PA system).  These are in different locations or used on the go at events, so with a 7 I'd have to remember to bring along my adapter everywhere and/or buy several to have in different locations. A logistical pain in the ### to say the least.

  That's not worth it, between losing the dongle and paying for it, easier just to buy a battery case. That has to slow down the charging too, I would imagine?
I asked yesterday if the Mophie cases for the 7 would have a lightning input instead of USB.  If they stick with USB (or aren't allowed to have lightning), I think that renders them almost useless.

Seen you ask that, so you're saying I wouldn't be able to plug in the lightning EarPods into the mophie? Yea that wouldn't help any.

I wonder if apple is going to tightly control who makes headphones for their phones now that it is using the lightning.

I know apple became a big PIA with 3rd party charging cables a while back and I always had a bunch that wouldn't charge and I'd get "this cable or accessory is not compatible with this apple device' message.

With them owning Beats, and using the same port that had some level of control over its operation, I could see them working with only a select few manufacturers on headphones.

I didn't really anticipate this causing such frothing at the mouth.  I can't go anywhere with people saying how they will never upgrade and will stay on the 5 or 6 forever.

So my 6+ has a jacked screen.  I've been waiting on the new one to upgrade.  Once it came out, I was a little "meh" but still decided I'd get one.

Now that I can order them, I honestly have no desire for a new one.  I can go get my 6+ fixed for 100-200 bucks, or I can shell out 900 for a new one that does nothing that my current one doesn't do.

In the end, it's not Apple's fault.  They make an incredible phone.  There's just no need for anyone to rotate out of it anymore.  The 6+ is still the perfect phone for me.  So why change until absolutely necessary?

I'm miffed they didn't leave the for this generation but in a year or 2 it will be the norm

Yep. They're ahead of the curve... but there is most definitely a curve. It's inconvenient, but In the grand scheme of things, having a 2" extension on the end of my headphone cord is a pretty insignificant issue

My wife always wants Bluetooth headphones for working out etc. I've bought 3 different pairs and she hates them all for either comfort or connection issues. If Apple fixed these issues she will be happy paying for these buds

Until you lose that cord.

Pre-ordered the Jet Black iP7 at midnight.   :headbang:

Didn't realize the white Ceramic Apple Watch was $1,200.  Stuck with Series 2 Stainless Steel.

This has always stumped me.  I hate trying to find the damn plug in the dark.  Someone needs to just let me throw my phone on my night stand and have it charge.  Weird they haven't added that yet.  I've always wondered if it's a patent issue.
Place one of these behind your night stand.

I'm with you that bluetooth buds haven't quite gotten "there" yet for me either. I use some basic Sennheiser buds that sound great and aren't too gimmicky. I'm not dropping $150 for wireless buds...

The pain of pairing and charging are one reason why the buds aren't there yet.  The W1 chip and the dedicated charging case presumably help with those issues.  Not sure about the comfort factor, although the wired buds in that shape are pretty comfortable.  I just don't know if they'd stay in while exercising.

The AirBuds are being pushed pretty hard as an accessory to the Watch.  Which leads me to believe that Apple's intent is to try to push a lot of the computing experience away from the phone itself and build an ecosystem where the watch and Air Buds become a big part of the augmented reality experience.

New Jaybird Freedoms and B&O's are great.

I used to be totally against Apple. Hated their products and only used Android. My wife has always had an iPhone and wanted to get a MacBook. Once we got that, I started to get hooked on how everything with Apple worked together. Now, I have the MacBook, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. It is really convenient how well everything works together. That really is my main reason for staying with Apple at this point.
My thoughts exactly and the real turning point was the Macbook Pro.  I admit I fought my wife buying it and said I hated it for a few weeks. Now, every time I use it I say so etching like "man, these guys just know how to do it". Everything just works so seamlessly.  When I cut the cable at the beginning of the year, I wanted to go round but settled on appletv boxes and while I don't think they, alone, are the best, it's hard to beat them when you are using the other parts in the ecosystem

I upgraded from the 4 to 6 when the 6 came out. There was a 4 year stretch between the upgrades.  I kind of had some regret of not getting the 6 plus so I figured I would go 7 plus this time.  Probably  would not have even done it considering the minimal upgrades but wife broke her phone and will take my 6 now.  I have a hunch given the diminishing improvements in relation to what makes my "gotta have it" list that I could be keeping the new 7plus for a long time.

They must be selling well, I place my order At 12:16pdt and have a 2-3 week wait for the 7plus with 128g in the matte black.

7+ Jet black is the hot seller

I got an email from Verizon saying I can upgrade for $0. But, I'm sure there is much fine print in there even if I turn in my iPhone 6 128gb model. If they are trying to tell me I can pay $0 for another 128gb... why not. I did not read the fine print.

Verizon webpage says I can trade in my phone for $225.

I guess I misunderstood the earlier talk about upgrades in relation to monthly fees without subsidized phones and contracts existing anymore.

I am upgrade eligible and my bill will increase by $27 a month for a new iPhone 7.

For 24 months.  So you pay $650 over 2 years.  The retail cost of the phone.  It seems to me that the only thing trading your old phone in is the privilege of a 2-year payment plan instead of paying full retail all at once.

Ordered the 7 in black and a gold watch. Delivery the 16th.
Ballin'.

I'm trying to decide between the jet black 7+ and the Pixel XL/Marlin, hopefully they release the official specs soon because my current screen looks like a spider web and I need to make a purchase.

I've been a Nexus guy since day one but considering switching over to iPhone because college chicks and foreign girls get wet when they see an iPhone.

Interesting. And makes a lot of sense. You could imagine having all of the phone functionality into the watch in a few years, and the buds being how you make phone calls.

No reason to not have Bluetooth headphones, makes the headphone thing insignificant.

I am however on an unlimited data plan and not switching. The fact that carriers no longer subsidize for a 2 year contract and I have to pay full price for a phone means I'll be riding my 6 into the ground. If they were still subsidizing, $300 I can justify, $1000 it doesn't feel worth it.

Simple rationale:

- Faster (my speeds now are fine)

- Better camera (DSLR for anything important)

- More resistant to elements (if mine breaks, I'll get a new one).

The screen isn't big enough.

Until they can project a 3D screen out of the watch, the phone won't be replaced. At least a decade away. Also, a large segment of the affluent population enjoy wearing a mechanical watch, so I don't think they'll ever really be able to completely do away with a phone.

Well I'm used to paying $200 at the time of the upgrade and not having my monthly bill go up. Now I'm dropping $450 additional on the phone and my monthly goes up $27 a month. Not happening.
