The Apple iPhone Thread (15 Viewers)

Anyone having issues with the install of iOS 10? I have heard things about it 'bricking' phones. Is it the sort of thing you want to wait until 10.01?
So far most of the reports that I have read are from the 6s/6s plus and it's over the air updating not via iTunes.

Just an extra step, I understand why they did it but I don't like the extra step. I used to get a notification when it was locked and I would need to do to unlock was just put my thumb on the button.
I feel the same way. Glad it's an option to change!

So far no real issues. iMessage is weird, but I'll get used to it.

No, Verizon and Sprint are compatible. Not Sprint to AT&T like he was asking. It even says so in the link. You can go GSM to GSM or CDMA to CDMA. But you can't go from one to the other.

"In the U.S., there are two wireless technologies — CDMA and GSM — and they are completely incompatible with each other. The majority of the Verizon and Sprint networks use CDMA technology, while AT&T and T-Mobile are built on GSM. "

" All LTE networks in the U.S. are built using GSM technology, so newer Sprint and Verizon LTE-enabled handsets include a SIM card and may work on all GSM networks, big and small. "

No.

Before you act smug, keep reading the rest of the 5 paragraph article I linked. K?

If he has a newer phone that uses LTE, which he likely does, he may have no issue switching.

No.

Where can I use my Sprint phone?

  • Selected Sprint devices may work with Verizon: namely the iPhone 5c and up, as well as Nexus devices and the Moto X Pure Edition.
  • Some devices can be taken to Ting and Boost Mobile, but not prepaid brand Virgin Mobile.
  • Global Sprint devices with SIM card room may work with AT&T and T-Mobile's GSM networks, but only on 4G LTE service.

So it sounds like it's possible, but it will only work if you're constantly getting 4G LTE, if not, your phone won't work.

Smug? Did you read your last comment? I didn't think I was being smug at all.

Sorry, it felt smug when you were using the article I provided to "prove" me wrong when you left out the second half of the article which was what I was referring to initially.

Well that's where I got the info from. I know going back a couple years, you couldn't go from Verizon/Sprint to AT&T/T-Mobile. You could only go GSM to GSM or CDMA to CDMA. It sounds like it's possible now, but it depends on the model of your phone.

If you have an iPhone 6, this link may help clear some of that up: https://www.techwalls.com/differences-between-iphone-6-6-plus-models/

The update to iOS 10 wrecked Outlook.

That's my work email, email threads are now a complete mess. Puts the order of the replies in some ####ed up order that makes no sense.

Why do they always mess with stuff that works fine?

My iPhone 6 is technically a T Mobile phone if you look up the model number (MG572LL/A), and it would seem that it works on all networks just fine. I got it as a handset replacement while a Verizon subscriber and it's working great on VZW with a SIM.

No impact at all on my Outlook. Looks/works just as it did before.

You can change the sort order in Settings > Mail > Most Recent Message on Top

Think the folks at Apple are secretly happy with the recall of the Galaxy Note 7?

'We may not have an audio jack, but at least our phones don't burst into flames!!' - How do you think they could work that into an ad? ;)
I don't see how anyone can NOT be happy about a major ####up by a competitor... these are two massive companies going toe to toe on a grand scale. Samsung has never been shy about publicly jumping down Apple's throat on stuff... Apple, partially by way of their position/branding, has generally (not always) taken the "high road" so I wouldn't expect them to acknowledge this.

This helps. Like everything I'm sure i'll get uses to it. Just visually when I first went in it was a mess and I needed some info quickly.

Turning off "complete threads" helped clean it up as well. I was seeing #### that was in my "sent" box in the email thread.

Looking for a setting that made it like before in that your emails were grouped in a thread, when you entered that thread you selected the person whose email you want to read, it then takes you into that email with all the replies as you scroll down. Think that's gone but that was more of a visual order thing I was used to.

Yeah, I hated it at first too. Trying to get used to it before I abandoned the "Sent" completely.

I think AT&T screwed up and sent me two phones. When I first ordered at midnight, I got a text a few hours later telling me to call and that my order wouldn't be processed until I did.

Spent an hour on the phone and the guy was supposed to input a new order and post date it to show I ordered at the same time so I would still get a delivery on 9/16. Now I have two orders and both shipped and delivered. One to my PO BOX/billing address and one to my home.

What can happen? I only want to pay one fee per month and have no need for two phones?
Sell the second one?

"Switch to an iPhone during the fire sale" ?

They won't notice I got two phones and charge me for the second one?
No idea. Check your bill or your account online. I added my middle son to my AT&T plan through their web site, got the phone and then realized that they put his phone on my account as a separate mobile share plan. We were way under the 10 devices, so I had to call up and get it fixed (took two tries). As soon as you activate one of them, you'll see it on your account. If you see two phones, call them about it and say you got two when you only ordered one. If you only see one for a couple months, let your inner angel/devil work out whether or not you want to tell them. Just be careful if you decide to sell it. When it gets activated, who knows what will happen. Are you married, have kids with phones? If so, you can try to activate the other one for them and maybe it works with no issues.

Where should I be selling my 6 plus?  Ordered up a 7 plus, apparently was due for an upgrade through my job and got a sweet deal.  A buddy mentioned that on Amazon you could trade in a 6 plus for Amazon credit of like $350, but I don't see that anywhere.  What's my best bet for trading in my 6 plus after my 7 plus arrives?

Also, I may be the only person interested in getting the ear buds, but I will get them.  A key to my daily commute is my music.  Wouldn't survive without it.  That's approximately 3 hours every day through trains and walking where my headphones are key for me.  The 5-hour battery life is no limitation for my uses.  And it will resolve The very frustrating twice or more daily routine of having to untangle the ####### mess of clumped headphone wires in my pocket.  Love the iPhone headphones fit, always hated the wires.  Looking forward to it.

2 weeks for most orders now.  The trade in deal is kind of a PITA online so hit a store to do it (at least for AT&T).  So going with one 7 32 GB for Mrs. Osaurus in whatever color and the 7+ 128 GB in jet black for me.  Giving up with iPad all together and just going for 7+ Since I'm on my phone the majority of the time.

You commute 3 hours every day???

I got my 7 yesterday along with the watch 2. The home button takes some getting used to. The watch seems to be a lot more accurate as far as running goes.
