The Apple iPhone Thread (5 Viewers)

Also on the 7 you really can't plug headphones in? If you were converting from Samsung do you go for the 7 or find a better deal on a 6?
6s vs. 7

Essentially the same phone.  You're paying a lot of money for a better camera, stereo sound, water resistance, a little more battery life, and the loss of the headphone jack.

Only downside to the air buds: without the prominent white cord, it won't be as clear to folks that I'm listening to music, and so, even when I have the volume low or off, it will be harder to ignore people in NYC stopping me to ask me stupid questions (usually crackheads or tourists).  Just need to power through and ignore harder

That's pretty misleading and not what the link says. It says iPhone7 is generally faster, and much faster in some aspects (including for instance wifi speed).

Are there any incentives if you make the switch?

At this point, there are no better deals on the 6.  I'm with TMobile and they only marked the 6 down $100.  Ridiculous.

I have the 6 and I upgraded to iOS 10 lastnight. I'm not liking the having to hit the home button twice to now unlock my phone. I've never had a home button break or anything but the whole click-then-swipe is so convenient to what it is now.

I do like the bigger font but some apps "look" odd or can't see what I used to see without some hunting. Any ideas?

But I'm told that the iPhone 6s runs perfectly smooth - what's the benefit to the 7 being any faster?  As for wifi speed, what are you downloading on your phone that you need faster than 500 mbps?

You can change the behavior back to what you're used to. Settings ->General -> Accessibility -> Home Button -> Rest finger to unlock or some such.

For me the reason to move is the water resistance as well as the camera in the plus, but I'm still not sold on making the move.

For non-Series 2 Apple Watch wearers:

Adding background refresh for the Watch OS3 is a great feature for more quickly accessing apps and complications but crushes your battery so fast as to make it almost useless (my watch was dead by about 3pm in the afternoon).

I switched it but I have to use the Touch ID for it. I was hoping it'd be like all other iterations with the press-swipe method. I don't care for the widgets as of right now. I doubt Apple will allow the old feature though.

Why would you not have a password on your phone to unlock? That seems less than ideal.

I do but with finger print ID, you don't type in a password. I didn't use finger print stuff before opting with the 4/6 digit password.

iOS 9 = home - swipe - password - home screen

iOS 10 = home - finger - home screen

2 weeks for most orders now.  The trade in deal is kind of a PITA online so hit a store to do it (at least for AT&T).  So going with one 7 32 GB for Mrs. Osaurus in whatever color and the 7+ 128 GB in jet black for me.  Giving up with iPad all together and just going for 7+ Since I'm on my phone the majority of the time.

How did the trade in work in a store? Like you say, the online version is a pain. I just ordered my girlfriend a 7+ and will trade her 6+ to get the new one almost free.  I know there is a September 30th deadline on the offer and the one she ordered won't be shipped until almost November.

TIA

I think now it's pretty much the same.  Trying to find the code to use online was a PITA and even ATT guy I talked to didn't know you could do it online.  Heading to store tonight, but it's for pre-order so nothing will happen for a couple of weeks.  Then I trade in both phones, get charged the monthly for a couple of months, then get reimbursed for those months for 7 and pay a little more monthly for my 7+

You can do home-home-password in iOS 10.  Just replaces the swipe with another home tap.

Anyone else noticing an impact on their battery after upgrading to iOS10?  My 6+ has been great with me rarely seeing the 20% warning, but now that I've upgraded I've seen it 2x already.  Could be coincidence, but.....

I didn't think so at first. Hard to tell if I'm just using it more trying to figure out the new features or if it really is draining faster.

I definitely have on my 6.  It's bad.

Where should I be selling my 6 plus?  Ordered up a 7 plus, apparently was due for an upgrade through my job and got a sweet deal.  A buddy mentioned that on Amazon you could trade in a 6 plus for Amazon credit of like $350, but I don't see that anywhere.  What's my best bet for trading in my 6 plus after my 7 plus arrives?
You can get a lot more than $350 for your 6+!

I dont understand this home button problem some of you are having... I press once and leave thumb there and in about 0.2 seconds the phone unlocks and I'm at my home screen with one button push.

Am I missing something?

This 7 plus is great. I'm using this case. Liking it so far.
I have the exact same one on my 6+ with the red trim on the back inside the black. Had it for almost two years, love it. I also have this stuck to the back so that I don't carry a wallet anymore. The phone plus a wallet is too much for shorts, which in NC/working from home, I wear all the time. I'm on my second wallet sticker, so that has lasted a little more than a year. I wasn't going to chance it once one of the edges started coming off. Not worth the chance for $10. The stretchy one is much better than the silicone. I have 3 cards and money in there all the time and can get a lot in there.

FYI for folks who have ordered and are waiting.

I ordered on 9/9/16 immediately after launch.  The 7+ was already saying it would take until October 4-10 to receive. However, I received the notice this morning that it has shipped and will arrive by Friday..

Does adding more memory do anything to the price? 32gb is a bit on the low side! ;)

so here is how I understand it to work. I have an iphone 6 that I own (no payments/contract) and I'm going to give that to AT&T. They are going to give me $650 in credits over 24 months towards my iphone 7 plus 128 gb and only pay the difference between that phone and the 32gb iphone 7 over the span of 24 months.

What color did you get? I just saw an article saying this too, about the jet black ones. My girlfriend ordered the rose gold and I'm hoping it's a lot sooner than the Nov 4th it is saying right now.

Is your iPhone 6 an AT&T phone? Was the old phone on Next?

Ordered 7 32 GB in rose gold for Mrs. Osaurus.  Should be here by Friday.  I went with the flat black 7+ 128 GB.  Should be here by the end of October.  Jet black 7+ 128 GB looks like late November ship.  Just in time for Thanksgiving.

Correct.  It's about $8 a month

Anyone done the "trade up" deal with Verizon.  I understand it works the same as the AT&T deal, I think.  I get the 7 when it comes in, and I start getting charged $27 a month or so on my bill - and I hand them my 6 and I get a $27 credit (first credit on 4th bill, but will be for 4 months worth of credits).  So it's a "no charge upgrade"?  What am I missing?  What's the catch?

Also, I may be the only person interested in getting the ear buds, but I will get them.  A key to my daily commute is my music.  Wouldn't survive without it.  That's approximately 3 hours every day through trains and walking where my headphones are key for me.  The 5-hour battery life is no limitation for my uses.  And it will resolve The very frustrating twice or more daily routine of having to untangle the ####### mess of clumped headphone wires in my pocket.  Love the iPhone headphones fit, always hated the wires.  Looking forward to it.
You know you don't HAVE to use Apple headphones. You can get very good wireless headphones that are not Apple and could of been using them for years.

My sister is doing this with Verizon.  Not seeing a catch.

Wait so you get 4 months worth of credit for your 6 total of $108

And then your pay $27 a month for the 7? How long do you pay that fee? Max and Min amount of time?

Me either, which is why I'm wary. My wife still has a 5, so she can't do the same.  They offered her like $48 for it.  No thanks, we'll keep it as a backup.
It's essentially a 2 year contract with Verizon, but I don't really see that as a catch.

Your first credit comes in the fourth month, but for an amount equal to 4 months of credit.  Then you get a $27 credit each month for the remainder of the two years.  While paying $27 a month for the phone for 2 years.  Which essentially cancels out paying for the phone.
